I like to think that.
@@tommiefunk2099either one works well 🤣
Bitter?
Just wanted to say that bull calves (male baby cattle) who aren’t going to be used for breeding later are usually castrated while young and turned into steers to reduce aggression as adult bulls can be quite dangerous, so it would be very important to have steers and not intact bulls in a lab setting. I’m speaking as an LVT and a farmer.
I could only imagine the chaos at a lab with a herd of unclipped bulls. 😂
Doesn't the testosterone also affect meat quality?
@akchuck100 In pigs it does. In cattle I really don't know...
@@akchuck100 Yes. Testosterone in high levels makes meat taste more "sour" or "gamey" depending on the breed or species.
Testosterone grows muscle for fighting. Castrated animals have very little to no will to breed, this reduces the will to fight, and makes them calmer. Calmer animals eat better, don't have crazy wounds from fighting or escaping pens to try to breed, and usually grow very well in fatty muscle that's better at holding onto nutrients.
Same as dogs. If you have a male pup, get his nuts removed before they drop and you'll have a much calmer (and nicer) pet.

My uncle worked as an inspector at plum island. He had to sign an NDA
I worked in a Lyme Disease lab in grad school. The bacteria are hard to grow in traditional media because they have strict and undefined nutritional needs. It took quite a while to develop BSK Broth to grow them and you have to be careful as any contaminating organism will easily outgrow the Borellia. Not surprising it took so long to find. I've also never been a fan of the bioweapon/bioterror theory as the disease, while horrible, isn’t normally what you'd go for. Traditional bioweapos are 1. Easily spread, usually via aerosolization and 2. tend to cause very quick and severe disease and death. Lyme is slow and tick transmission means that spread isn’t as effective as other more promising candidates. Other interesting facts include that most of the damage from Lyme disease is actually caused by your immune response to the disease rather than the bacteria itself and that due to a very unfortunate series of events, the Lyme vaccine (at least when I was in grad school) wasn't available for use in the US.
even it failed to produce a weapon that acts quickly we know them to have attempted it because the japanese doctors from unit 731 were pardoned and their research continued
I’m morbidly courteous of what they use. Like how did they kill the North Korean leaders brother what was that shit?
Plus you want a way to protect and treat your own agents. A bioweapon is useless when it hits your guys as well.

You're using logic on conspiracy theories... conspiracy theorists avoid logic like it's the plag... Lyme disease...
Having done some work on Plum Island, it's a pretty cool place with a really fascinating history. Seeing the old ammo dump and rail lines is really nifty... and all of the seals hanging out on the beach!
FYI, they name storms by alphabetical order from a list… it’s not like a name is chosen specifically for a storm, but hurricane Bob, I like it
I think the more to the point why is Bob even on the list. it's kind of like at a job I used to have we had a customer service rep who wore a leg brace who went by "Peggy" which always made me think of that joke from my school years "what do you call a woman with a wooden leg?" similarly there was another joke in the series: "what do you call a man who drowned?" the answer is of course "Bob" so again is Bob being on the list of potential storm names a coincidence?
And if Robert was on the list that year, it would be the 17th hurricane that year. And Bob came around in mid August. Which means quite a lot hurricanes in a short period.
@@better.better I'm pretty sure it's just a coincidence. The list goes in a 6-year cycle and alternates between male and female names, i.e. the 2027 Atlantic hurricane season will start with Ana, Bill, Claudette, and Danny and the 2028 season will start with Alex, Bonnie, Colin and Danielle. The names are also different for the Atlantic, Eastern North Pacific, and Central North Pacific regions. Bob was probably on the list because they just needed 3 distinct male names for the cycle. Bob was actually retired as a name in 1991 due to the impact the hurricane had (which is fairly common with hurricane names) and the male B names for the Atlantic region are currently Barry, Bill, and Bret.
And now there is a section of your brain devoted to storing the absolutely useless knowledge of the NOAA's hurricane naming conventions. You're welcome. :D
Fun fact, my ancestor Moses Hazen fought in the revolutionary war on the American side as a brigadier general and was part of Benedict Arnold’s squad or something and pissed Arnold off once. Arnold had tried to confiscate supplies from innocent shop folks in Canada, basically trying to steal their supplies. Well my ancestor knew the shop folks he was trying to steal from and sent the product back so Arnold couldn’t loot it. Arnold got so pissed he tried to have Hazen court marshaled but it didn’t go through. So I have the pleasure of saying my ancestor pissed of Benedict Arnold. 🙏🏻
Ha! That’s a cool story:)
Was Benedict Arnold in Canada?

Oh I need to watch this episode just to hear how Simon handles names like Montauk. I've got an unfair advantage being a local to the area, but it will still be funny to hear him go "what are these names these aren't English!" at every native American location name

I wanted to hear his shot on Wequetoquock.
Down here in Florida isn't much better. We have Weewahitchka, Thontasassa, Homosassa, Ocklawaha, and a place literally called YeeHaw Junction. I don't think there's a state in the Union that wouldn't give him fits.😂

I think Katy was joking by insinuating that it was a coincidence, all the sources I can see from a quick online search state that Lyme disease is named after Lyme, Connecticut
I’m joking almost 100% of the time
@@katywatson4940 That was awesome.
@@katywatson4940 You forget, sometimes Simon can be way too literal.
It's named after Lyme, CT, which is directly north of Plum Island. I've lived on either side of the sound to the north and south of the facility. My favorite thing was how they always talk about how things can't leave, but I watched the sea gulls (many, many seagulls...) ride the ferry from either side and fly to the island as it goes by and they come back the same way. There's always a way for things to escape despite our best efforts.
The facility was only moved to tornado alley - I’m sure nothing bad will happen guys. 😂
Hurricanes are named in alphabetical order, using only one name per letter. Hurricane Bob would have been the 2nd hurricane of the years. Idk why I thought I had to type that haha.
A few of them could have been named for some of my relatives. We, of course, would blame the storm on them. 😉
Well thanks for your engagement anyway
Fear of plane crashes and hijacking is why I learned how to basically fly and land a 747 in an emergency. Dreams are almost completely psychological and symbolic. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most people cannot do what you do and you can't really be replaced. People will always want a Simon Whistler. There is no other Simon Whistler, well, not like you, anyway.
This episode was plumb full of puns!!
I spend a significant amount of time shouting names at my screen whenever I'm watching a Simon video. Today it was "Benedict Arnold! Benedict Arnold! BENEDICT ARNOL... oh, finally man."
Lyme disease is a neuro muscular disease. Really bad, and it lasts forever. My neighbor had gotten it when she was about20, back in the 40s. And now days she has a ton of neurological problems that come and go, and occasionally her mind is totally erratic for about an hour...and then she fine. Weird. A guy I knew from work had got it last year, and got it treated right away, and he is fine. Except every once in a while, when it's too hot or too cold, or otherwise something to compromise your immunities, he just collapses, and his legs don't work. He's a chef so that's bad. So it's really unpredictable.
Literally watching this at an airport.. Simon just did me in the dirtiest way with that tangent about plane crash nightmares 😭
There's a town near Zion National Park in Utah spelled 'Hurricane,' but pronounced the way Simon says it; Hurricun.
I think we should rename it Hurricun Bob.
You advocate a nuclear bomb 'safety' device encase of a bio accident. This was kind of at the center of the 1969 book and 1971 movie 'The Andromeda Strain' by Michael Crichton.
For decades, they kept that research center on an island, as it was "too dangerous for the mainland" for some reason they are moving it to Kansas now. Seems a nice, central location if something should get out. Smack dab in the middle of the nation's food supply.

I had lyme-disease as a kid shortly before my 6th birthday, but luckily recovered without lasting issues. The worst part of it were the side effects of the treatment, couldn't sit up without getting a headache in no time, could only walk a few steps before getting terribly naseous and was generally pretty weak. All worth it of course, for recovering fully, but boy am I mad, that I had to go through this in the first place! It also had me miss the sleepover in kindergarten and I am so not over missing such a pivotal childhood event. (Also I'm completely ineligible to donate blood now)
There are a lot of BSL-4 facilities in the US. I'm pretty sure there are close to 10 and we have had some of them around since the late 60s early 70s.
My worst nightmare would be someone forcing me to listen to the sound wasps make while flying around you. Or the sound of a mosquito flying around your head that would also be hellish.
I had morgellons. My doctor tested the weird fibres that came out of my skin and they were clothing fibres. She then looked further into it and found out that your skin can absorb fibres from your clothing if your thyroid levels are low. She increased my dose of Synthroid and I stopped getting weird lumps of strings under my skin.
It was the weirdest thing and I'm glad my doctor actually believed me instead of telling me that I was crazy.
As of 2023, clinical trials of proposed human vaccines for Lyme disease were being carried out, but no vaccine was available. A vaccine, LYMERix, was produced, but discontinued in 2002 due to insufficient demand.[27] There are several vaccines for the prevention of Lyme disease in dogs.

We have native pigs (boars), chickens, ducks, fish etc. All Totally organic so susceptible to infection.
We have had swine flu, bird flu and a weird fish disease that killed every type of creature.
We were very surprised to get these diseases as we keep a very strict isolation routine at all times.
It turned out that the very government inspectors that were supposed to make sure these diseases didn’t propagate were going to infected areas and making no effort to clean themselves or their clothing and spreading the infections to every farm they visited.
Needless to say it has cost the government millions of dollars for these gross negligence payouts.
We have had the police called on us by these inspectors because we refuse to let them in before they disinfect their shoes and outer clothing, wear masks and surgical gloves and wash their hands with carbolic soap.

"Biological warfare against animals" almost certainly is actually *against* animals, not just testing on them. It's an established strategy in war to try and get the upper hand by starving the enemy. There very much were experiments done to be like "is there something we can drop from the sky that causes all the farm animals to die and causing a famine?" I know experiments like that were done during World War 2, on both sides.

The general consensus in southern CT was that Lyme Disease was brought to the mainland by an accidental release from Plum Island, and a deer with an infected tick swimming the sound.
