#highpeakautos #Rio #Kia #KiaRio
It's a testament to this channel that I'm watching a video about a fucking Kia Rio.
Hahah thank you!
What's so bad about a Kia?
I do like that you don't just focus on more expensive cars, but also recognise that many people just want a car for transport and so feature basic cars like these too without being snobby about them. The variety on your channel is what keeps me returning.
Thanks!
Agreed
Great video as always Matt, I do miss the older style videos where you go to the parking lot and have a walkthrough and then go for a drive but otherwise keep up the good content
same here
Me to .
@Great Grace 🕊️ If you want to perform Madonna dances for a fictitious business woman thats your perogative .
Que the haters cos you made profit fair play from me
@BISHOP Stanley James nice try bot reported
Someone once said to me "second class driving is better than first class walking"! Nice little car, I'd be chuffed to bits with it.
What a gem. That will make someone very, very happy. Low miles = less damage, less wear and less dirt. Great find, well done.
Not all them... lol
Not always. It could be low mileage but it could means lots of short journeys where someone’s stopping and starting constantly, riding the clutch, never letting the engine properly heat up. Leads to expensive repairs
@@lewistillett206 or worst, as used seaside nearby and build up rust
@@lewistillett206 like the exhaust is about to blow.
Totally agree
I actually have a Kia Rio 2006 5dr :), I got it for $1200CAD and the odometer had abt 160,000KM on it, so not terrible at the time, as it was during the pandemic. I've had it for 3 years now and for all that time I've loved it. It generally isn't the best on ice/snowy roads buts that's probably because I have all seasons and not winters. Eitherway it's reliable, I've only ever had to put 1 major repair into it. Just regular maintenance so far with brakes, oil change, and a sensor
This is exactly the sort of car I always look for when needing another car
Me too economical gold
I've had one of these for 9 years. It does 10-12000 miles a year, it's the most reliable car I've ever had.
Nice to see you made a worthwhile profit on a cheap budget car !!!! Good on you Matt after all the ups and downs you deserve it, mate 👍👍
Thanks! All the best
@@HighPeakAutos I've 2009 civic type r laying up 6 years only 50k any good u mate
What a fantastic car well done
I had one of these with the 1500 diesel. It was pokey, even with good tyres it would always wheelspin. Cheap plastics but typical Kia build. Drive it without worrying of it breaking down, cheap for tyres and parts. Good vid mate.
Mine is the same. I tried to pull a bit quicker on a junction and it spun wheels up to third. 1.5 crdi is definitely not for new drivers. On the other had the cost of running is low and I do around 62 MPG. Perfect work horse, just wouldn't impress the girls. 😂
I have one as a daily which I think a previous owner has remapped. It's surprisingly quick. The big issue with these Kia's though is they rust badly. They didn't galvanize the subframes or body
Bought a 2012 1.1 Diesel Kia Rio with FKSH for 3295 4 years ago to move to Malta. Through all the bad roads and dust in Malta, plus and the derive from Uk 4 years it hasn’t missed a beat. Keep up the videos Matt, great work!
Love these videos about older cars Matt. I once bought an old Citroen AX from an old lady who had been told she couldn't drive anymore due to failing eyesight. It had clearly been cared for and, although it was up for £575, I gave her £675. She was lovely. I used it on a weekly basis for travelling from Preston to Salisbury and it never missed a beat. I sold it about two years later for £450, so I was chuffed with that.
Keep them coming.
What a good buy, I bought a 59 plate Kia Picanto with 42k on the clock from a neighbour for £500, full service history, mint interior, just needed a couple of bumper scuffs buffed out & a machine polish, basically a day's work, sold it for 2k through the local paper, wish I could find more like this one!
You are dead right, clean cheap cars fly out the door, Just bought a Citroen C1 for peanuts, needs a clutch & a valet, reckon there is a grand in profit once done.
Great honest little car. No doubt, new owner must be delighted with it. I am surprised you did not keep it as a courtesy car. Highly reliable, inexpensive , and in almost skow room condition. A profit is a profit. Well done
Bomb proof engine with out all the added bells and whistles that's the kia rio
This Kia was bound to sell straight away - Great Price for you too - makes up for some of your recent ‘keep a car on the road over-spends’
It looks like a gem for either a ‘L’ driver and/or a ‘1st Car’ for someone…
Thanks again Matt for another beautifully presented video…
Also enjoying your ‘High Peak Property’ video’s as well!
Keep them coming!
Next time I go home to my Parents in Marple, I am going to make a concerted effort to pop over and say hi.
Many of your test drives are done on so so many familiar roads around, Romiley, Marple, High Lane & New Mills area😉 love trying to work out where you are (& how you have edited your videos… 1 second you are in New Mills… then seconds later, you are driving through Marple Bridge towards Compstall 😂🚘😉
I've had three Hyundai's, which are basically Kia's and they've never let me down. Our current Kona, has every gadget you can think of, it probably has more spec than some German of double the price.
There's something special about low mileage budget cars, especially when they clean up so well. Looking forward to more of these little gems
These and their Hyundai twins are indeed good, reliable transport. I bought one of these almost exactly the same sort of deal - low mileage, full history, had been sitting a little while, and it never gave any trouble at all. Good score Matt.
MR Lloyd of Lloyd Vehicle Consulting would agree 👍 cheap and solid.
I never had one, not interested in one nor will i ever buy one. But, none the less, i will watch this video from start to finish. Never a boring visit to the loo since i discovered this channel.
Sat on the toilet as I’m reading this
Hahah cheers
Kia n Hyundai are leagues in front on reliability , drivability paint finish, panel fitting … compared with most car brands out there… possibly only Japanese makes that comes close….(for everyday motoring) but each to their own… 😊
Brilliant job, Matt. I absolutely love these sort of cars. Driving something that cost peanuts to buy and run .That's stressfree, my kind of life 👍
Stress free thinking when it might break down!
@paulmcgee1867 ,very unlikely, though. Low mileage car, very good condition 👌. Definitely less likely to break down compared to, for example, Audi A6 with a hundred thousand miles on the clock.
That's a lovely car, wouldn't have thought it would be so nice on the inside. I love the simple and clear dials.
Whether it's a Kia or a Range Rover, providing it's been looked after and the servicing has been done on time, it will always be a good purchase, as you always mention. Great video again, that car turned out looking great.
Not sure about that. Range Rovers are a nightmare. I'd never buy one out of warranty.
Great result for you ! Very happy for you
Great video Matt.
I bought a 2012 Kia Rio2 8 years ago and use it every day. They are brilliant cars and cheap as chips to run and maintain. Plus it goes under the raider so you can park it anywhere and don't have to worry about it being tampered with. Good basic vehicle 👌
A good refresh of your video formula - all the useful information, good sharp presentation style. Your experience infront of the camera shows through.
Great little car which in the past was the victim of brand snobbery. I suspect in the near future Korean car sales will completely bypass the German brands. I now own a 2017 Sportage 2.0 crdi with all the kit. It’s brilliant so far.
Honestly I’ve always said, as long as a car had been looked after and is reliable as it can be, who cares what it looks like or what kind of car it is? As long as it gets you from A to B safely and reliably that’s all you could really want. An example is back in 2014 my mum bought a c max, had all the bells and whistles, it was the top spec with all the add ons. It CONSTANTLY went wrong and was always in the garage. Now, we have a 2017 Skoda Citigo. It’s the basic model, has manual mirrors etc but it’s never ever let us down. It’s so cheap to run and it’s cheap on parts. So sometimes “better” isn’t always better. Great videos :)
I really do not mind these car’s simplicity and reliable I’d have any day over the the expensive “check engine light’ whats wrong now etc… that I currently own/drive. The old less is more thing 🤔
Imagine. You can sometimes make that sort of profit on the much much more expensive cars.
Goes to show that cheaper can sometimes be more rewarding financially..
Fantastic viewing again.👍
That’s right. Cheers
Brilliant little cars! Considering one as my first car and I believe they’re some of the best value for money as a cheap first car can be. Awesome stuff 🎉
55,000 views, 5,000 likes and 500 comments on an old nail. Pure gold dust, well done Matt @highpeakautos 👍👍
I think ive watched over 30 of your videos Matt. We bought a very low mileage kia rio for my wife and its a super little car... (needed a thorough wash and clean which was very satisfying to do) ...and your soooo right.. its such an honest car, its gutless and plastic cheap heaven but its a super little car.. cheers again!
Very good. All the best
Would have been great to see the condition of the engine bay :)
Such a solid friend this Rio. Very anonymous/humble, but tough as an Korean samurai. 💪🏼
I totally agree With you, for drivers who give their car choices as much consideration as they do a washing machine. These Kia’s although quickly dated are utterly dependable. One px I had through my hands many moons ago was an Hyundai Accent, it just did exactly what a car was supposed to do basically, When you’ve handled as many cars as you and I have over the years, you realise they’re all rubbish really and designed to fail, and only loved until the next one comes along. Love your vid’s reminds me of the good old days, collecting cars 👍
So someone could have had access to a good solid cheap car, but you got in first and more than tripled the price with a clean and a service, good work, good work
4:30 As a member of the sub 2k miles a year club, I used to get the same problem of a flat battery every few weeks. It shortens the battery life so I invested in one of those solar panel trickle chargers and have had no problems ever since. Obviously doesn't work if the car is kept in a garage between use.
One of the things that puts me off more modern cars is the fact that the computer/management system(s) is/are going to fail before any mechanical systems do. Which often makes repair unaffordable.
It's a rip off.
And it takes built in obsolescence to a ridiculous and obscenely wasteful level.
I love KIAs and am on my second Ceed; I did look at some Rios when searching for a friend, but at the time all the examples seemed to suffer from underbody rust which was evident in MoT advisories, but the mileage was much higher.
The Mazdas are also terrible for underbody corrosion. Some of the worse I’ve ever seen in such a short space of time
£1715 and TWENTY PENCE. She's a beauty, perfect runaround get to work etc. for chump change money.
Haha I forgot about the 20p
So great to see you making good cash and that’s a fab cheap clean car for somebody, as you say, AC, Power Steering and electric windows, means easy to live with. My mother has a 2006 Picanto with 22k miles on the clock! Has AC and PS and EW too. It’s so simple mechanically nothing has gone wrong and it has full Kia history and unmarked. Kia dealers nice too
Cracking stuff Matt.
Well done Matt! This compensates for the cars where you only could get a small profit from. I appreciate your hard work.
Kia are very reliable cars, had the previous 2004 Rio for 10 years. Most reliable car ever owned.
Love it! Got to the point "what would you want this or a bus pass?" And a national express bus ad plays right after 😂
They are stress free cars. Doesn't even have remote locking or an alarm as standard, because no one is going to steal it. They drive surprisingly well.
Great video as usual, nice to see chisworth in the shot and my old house, keep up with the well informed videos.
This is what people want these days, cheap motoring. As a car trader myself, always on the look out for cheap cars to flip on. As some have said, the car park videos are missed, regardless a great video as always.
We bought a 2017 rio 3 petrol last year, not £1000 granted but still a lot cheaper than an equivalent fiesta (we chopped in our 2013 fiesta titanium ecobosst).
A cheeky remap gives up 140bhp up from 99bhp (got to love a chain driven 1.0 3 cylinder turbo)
And other than a lack of ambient lighting (solved that's to an ebay led kit) it has the fiesta beaten in all areas Apart from ' on the edge handling' and street cred (which at 57 I think iam over anyway😂).
Well done once again, Matt. These pre - loved cars that have been properly looked after are music for the soul.
Had mine for 13 years. never let me down . Only had 1 spring break cheap motoring.
Excellent video, Matt. Always good to have a beginning, a middle and an end. Nice wee car, too, once you'd finished with it.
Nice. I love it when a plan comes together.
Great video, it's really good to see the beginning, middle and the end outcome
The reason for front double mats would have been to dampen the noise of the front brakes. Kia hadn't discovered sound dampening by then. In the back, to dampen the wheel bearing growls on the motorway. That said, it would make a cheap student's car for a few years.
Just got offered one of these free - saloon version 2006. Been sat 3 years. Owner sadly passed away. 1.6i - bullet proof engines (Hyundai Alpha - straight out of the old Accent). Picking it up next week.
A gem of a Kia Matt. Great turnaround & sale. Nice result... 👍👍
Nice one Matt! What a brilliant deal for you - and probably the new owner who's got a straightforward car with masses of life in it and for modest money!! 😊
Chops garage loves a kia rio
Matt, Radio..Pull the fuse and put it back. Ive had 2 kias and 1 Hyundai and they all had this problem. Or just unplug the battery and plug back in..
Sorted
Hi Matt. Nice one, go find some more he says. The main agent i work for part-time has a philosophy that there's as much profit or more in good clean second hand stock, because the manufacturers commission rates are so so tight, except the real top of the range vehicles. Happy hunting.
I bought a 2011 Rio5 for like 4k pounds, about 4 years ago, It's been a great point A to point B car, even has heated seats and a sunroof. You don't need a 20k car to commute.
This is exactly the type of car I'm always looking out for. For some reason the idea of a mint low miles let's say, mk 1 mondeo trumps a 20 -30 grand plus bmw all day....the costs, lack of stress, quirky manual mirrors, cheap fixes.....its so satisfying. Its fun.
My past three cars have been old
Nothing wrong with them as long as you set yourself back a small maintenance budget
Amazing, been looked after yet tires down the wire! Cheap and cheerfull works !
I love cars like this. Simple, reliable, cheap for repairs, cheap to run. It’s how cars should be imo, except everyone and their mum thinks they deserve to be driving in BMWs and Range Rovers🤷♂️ keeping up with the Joneses
I've never kept up with the Jones's. I drag the buggers down to my level.......
@Brian I lived next door to some real Jonse's who bought a new car every 3 years. When I bought a 13 year old Skoda and parked it outside they were threatening calling the police 😂.
Great little car. Well done on the profit. New buyer will be happy as well. Going up in the world Kia so people want them.
Blimey Matt, what a blinding deal . Congratulations.
Thanks!
Great video again Matt. And fantastic find! Very good profit for you too, after a couple of erm….. keep them on the road type. Excellent
Hopefully the new owner will take care of it. It's unbelievable for any car really but especially a disposable transport like that. No one maintains them.
That sounded like a good, straightforward and robust journey from start to finish, I hope you find more cars like this!
Nice to see decent cheaper cars coming on that folk can afford in this day and age and a bit of profit for you-win win 👏
Here I am having my lunch at work and see a new video from High Peak Autos. Nice relaxing lunch guaranteed
It's always good to see you hit one out of the park Matt!
ideal first car for teenager really honest little car for going a to b
Hi Matt, Great video and honest review on finding a 15 year old low mileage Kia Rio in good condition. Great the Car has been annually serviced, and pleased it quickly sold for a healthy profit.
If you have the time let us the outcome of the car stereo ! 😊
The best sort of car to buy very very low miles been looked after by some nice older man or lady and the car people want to buy no touch screens cameras everywhere etc just the important bits . Matt made a great job again !
Many cars bought on a budget when new are not looked after as well as this one as owners generally do just the minimum maintenance to keep it on the road - ‘cheap and cheerful’ but it goes to show that any car looked after and maintained well will reward the next owner.
You’re videos just keep getting better and better. And they were really good to start with.
Thanks!
Good wee buys still out there I just picked up a corsa 1.2 62plate limited edition 2owner 67k miles for £2000 will get chain done and service for lads 1st car
I really enjoy your "happy banger" videos, they reflect what so many people have to buy to get to work these days. I have a Picanto, £18K miles, for running around, it the same year as the Rio, similar condition, love it, it is just transport, you can leave it anywhere, drive it anywhere and there are no worries about anything. You have to drive it, not press buttons, and it is as much fun as my Boxster S, because you have to push it all the time. This is driving freedom at its best.
I definitely like the vids when you buy cheap cars and fix them up
May not always agree on what you should or should not spend money on
Thank you for putting the quick skip bar on this and previous video ;)
oh and was it the fuse or needed the ebay radio?
When you see mats over mats & reams of service documentation = a car been owned by not the usual couldn't give a toss person but by someone who has actually taken care of what they have owned/ driven..hence a low mileage tidy car that when cleaning up defies its age...this looks like new & its 15 years old!!!! Excellent High Peak Autos...more of the same type of reviews please 🙏 😊
Excellent video Matt. These stories are great to watch as there are some good car dealers out there, like yourself, who will ensure the customer receives a very well prepared car. Thanks and good luck in future deals.
Almost bought one a few years ago but went for a fiesta as stop gap car as the dealer wouldn't say if he'd do any advisor's on the mot.
"So we are traveling in the right direction ... actually I've just missed the junction" Comedy Gold.
Edit: Great result Matt
😉
@@HighPeakAutos
Hi Matt,
Just curious: did you have to add a ‘new’ radio to your expenses or was it indeed just a fuse?
Usually a burned fuse is the symptom of a fault and not the cause. I hope I’m wrong this time. 🤞
In my humble opinion i just don't think you can go wrong with a budget car..who is not looking for one with the cost of living as high as it is now. Mine only cost £3000 and its a great little car for my needs.
It’s a cute little car and the fact that it’s preserved so well is just nice. It’s not an enthusiast car, it’s just a simple tool and seeing people who respect their belongings and take care of them is respectable and a nice change compared to the most train wrecks that are available on the car market.
p.s. I miss when you would film when you went to pick up the cars too haha
I had one of these in gold and loved the gear changes, nice and direct, and it's such a neat looking car 😊
Apropos my previous comment though, we had some jolly good laughs & you certainly couldn’t get away with the shenanigans we did on the road back then. - the he sign with the black diagonal accross it, really did mean ‘ drive as fast as you like’..having a car that could do ‘tonup’ as a pretty rare thing, unless your parents had a Jag or something like it.
Why does every single used car in the UK have mismatched tyres? Honestly never seen that anywhere else before.
This car is designed by Peter Schreyer, the German Audi TT engineer. I have an automatic 2009 LX that has 160k miles on it and it still drives like new. It's all about the engineer guys. BTW, the radio is property of Xirus the radio station and needs a subscription to be reactivated.
You definitely find a lot of cheap cars. I look everywhere for similar deals and I can't find anything closer to your buying prices. You really have a magical intuition or you are just very lucky.
Good eye, Matt.
Yeah, I think a lot of dealers would have dismissed that KIA Rio immediately. Won't lie.... Bit sick and tired of all the expenses my sports sedan has be accumulating lately. Though not all of it her fault. She's 17 years old but mint. (I keep her that way.) And I put an amazingly low amount of miles on her due to my main job being less than 15 miles away from home. With almost all of it expressway driving. Still, the usual expenses and the unexpected ones are getting aggravating.
A current model year KIA Rio is one of the possible models I'm considering as a soon-to-be replacement. They've come a long way, and don't suffer from the same blown head-gasket issues as KIA's other gasoline vehicles do.
Outside looks like a mish-mash of early Ford Focus and Fiesta.
Even those heater-vent controls look like they are from the Ford parts bin.
You mentioned bus pass .... I always use my bus pass rather than use my car and use my car only to nip to the supermarket and to visit parents 40 miles away. I can't abide todays traffic.
£300 vehicle tax really hacks me off, so unless they stick it onto the fuel price, something 40 years old might do me.
Was never a fan of this iteration but my brother, a very down to earth, slightly old fashioned ‘not bothered wi fancy stuff” sort of Yorkshire bloke bought one new in 2010 - it was about £6k new and he’s still running it - had a few repairs when still under warranty but has run like a dream ever since - to replace it for something similar he’d have to spend about £20k now
