GTK one of the greatest Aussie Rock shows! on the ABC straight after Bellbird Australia's favorite TV show at the time and just before the 7.00pm news! remember just like it was yesterday and so can my Mum and Dad!
It was on at 6:30pm and ran for just ten minutes, which was by far the best ten minutes of my day, every day! It was then a race to the TV set to switch the channel to Channel 9 for the Bugs Bunny Show. Then us kids would go and do something else . . anything else . . while our British parents (Scottish and Welsh) watched the ABC for the rest of the evening. To this day I won't watch the ABC at all. Just like I won't eat steak'n'kidney, fish cakes, rice pudding, bread'n'butter pudding, and all the other English food Mum used to cook us.
@@moirahenry2975 I was 9 when 2SM in Sydney started spoiling us with this gritty track in 1971. There was no such thing as ACDC & even Sherbert was struggling for airplay. Aussie outfits like the La De Das had to entertain in the pubs before they ever made it onto concert stages. Aust & NZ had some truly gifted muzos & we were very lucky our djs had the freedom to play our local group's records in amongst a lot of bid dollar refined stuff out of the USA. Daddy Cool was probably our most loved local band in 1971 after they floored the world with Eagle Rock complete with dancing eagle footage in the film clip & shows like GTK saw the quality & potential in our local rockers & unleased great local clips onto our black & white tellies. The intro on Gonna See My Baby Tonight was unmistakable & instantly recognisable & as soon as you heard it come onto the radio, you'd twist the volume knob on the car radio until the ashtray rattled out of the dash in your Dad's HR Holden. Cranking the La De Das was safer in an FC Holden because the ashtray was set into the top of the dash & it couldn't rattle out & land upsidedown in your lap!
GTK was on at 630 pm. and it ran for just 10 minutes, before a long running serial Bellbird. It always featured local talent, Australian, and, of course, Kiwi talent that came onto the Australian map. With the right acts was always a gritty luxury, a special helping for dinner....
I was waiting for Kevin to lunge into a cracking solo.. but it was a bit disappointing, same notes over & over followed be a Chuck Berry riff .. pretty simple stuff. Still, a great song, I was 20 when this song came out 71 was a great year for music.
@@snowdropper5879I’m a guitarist.. he’s right & was expecting more from the solo too.. but a great song, all bands have stuff ups, I know we had quite a few, just keep going like these guys & nobody knows the difference.
Excellent song that anybody who can remember life as a teenager would love.
Saw Kevin Borich, last night.(Sept 20 ,2020)(Mitchell Creek Festival) Still 'outta sight'....
Wow..I never knew Kev was a Kiwi 😮.
Saw him mid 80's as Keven Borich Express.
Started the set with "Are you experienced" 🤙🤙🍻
Absolutely killer track....Aussie gold with big touch of kiwi!!!

Sh-t i love this song as a teenager my brothers friend would come over and we always played the La De Da's. I still have the EP single from then.
Fantastic Aussie classic!!!!!!
Keven Borich is one the best guitarists you will hear anywhere. Amazing talent.
Sure thing dude...lol
Great Aussie band from my past. True legends!
They came out of NZ, but what ever you want to believe and what ever tightens you strings.
This was our music singing at the loudest we could
Just about blew the speakers up playing this one so loud. Back when we had real music on real stereos and vinyl records best sound ever.

The best song
Great live performance, and so rare to see a fretless bass in those days!
Yep. GTK (Get To Know.) Just a short music segment on ABC. Think it only went for about 15 minutes. Very fond memories as a Teenager.

Wonderful
OZ music rules.❤❤❤
one of our great imports from Kiwi land
Used to see this on happening 70
What a great live version.Phil Key has the voice
Kevin Borich was doing lead vocals
Hairdressers didn't exist in 1971!! Great music!!
OMG!
Hate to say it but as far as the Borich family goes Kevin was far outshone by his son Lucius, what a fucking great drummer !
Outshone??? WTF are you smoking??? Yes I have heard Lucius in Cog, but to say that he outshone Kevin is ludicrous.
shit hot ************

Boy, they stuffed that up. Phil Keys missed his queue twice. The drummer got bored and a bit bemused. Still, great song.
Mate your so wrong it was live no one’s perfect let’s see how you go hey
