I've searched everywhere for a good video on planting seed to vines. Loved yours! I was already planning to do Morning Glory and Moonflower but I love the ideas of mixing the plantings together. Your step by step video was very helpful!! Thank you!!
hi! I'm Sheetal I love gardening.i am passionate about my plants.. you have got a lovely collection of morning glory.n I do love your moon flower. thanking you sheetal
Hey sweetie, I live here in central N.C and I plant Moon Flower seeds every year. I love how they always attract the Hummingbird Moths, they are so pretty.
Thank you so much this is such an awesome source of information, I have just started a garden and fell in love with the moon flower in a neighbours yard. Going to grow some.
Your video was very informative, I just found seeds for this variety for the first time. The peaceful rain in the background was very pleasant and kept my attention. I've had a different variety since the 1960's that makes a bush about 4 feet tall at most and the same size around. In Denver they come back every year. their seed pods are spiny and the seeds are only about 1/8" to 3/16". My mother brought them from Illinois to Fla to CO with good results.
Great information. I am getting ready to plant mine today. I live in Fl, so I can get these going a bit later than other places. I soaked my seeds over night, well, 2 nights, and they have nice root foot started.
Cool video, I love your accent! I'm new to gardening, trying to grow some peas, rosemary and morning glories myself, not sure how well the glories grow in England but we will see =] .....oh no! You have to soak the seeds?! I just put them right into a propagater.
Nice to see this. I haven't had any success with moonflowers...then again I live in Maine. Too cool? (We do have warm to hot summers.) And what a coincidence...I lost a MG flower seed packet the other day (planted many kinds and marked the pots with the packets. The one I lost, I couldn't find. So what do I see? The EXACT same packet on the video!) Thanks for the help, gardenmagik. LOL
love my moon flowers, especially since they can withstand high heat areas like mine. and they are absolutely gorgeous when they bloom at night. They look amazing wrapped around picket fences especially with morning glory blossoms taking over during the day (if you plan to plant morning glories nearby do yourself a favor and plant these two on opposite ends of the fence, or wall, or flower bed from each other because the morning glories do tend to overpower them (guess those roots are very competitive), if not the moon flowers are going to have trouble blooming. I wish i could find some seeds from the moon flowers that have purple blossoms.
I love the accent. I'm from Arkansas and you sound very familiar. I also love the cabin. You got a new subscriber. I'd love to learn from you. Thank you.
I could listen to your accent all day lol I planted some morning glories and moon flowers together about a week to two weeks ago. I have seen some seedlings coming up, I hope they grow ok!
I just wanted to say that I grew some moon flowers last year and I found that they would bloom in the day time and at night. My morning glorys didnt grow as well as the moon flowers did but it was my first attempt at both and i did have some level if success with both but more so with the moon flowers. Wow what a beautiful delicate bloom the moon flower has!!!
Thanks for a great idea ...I put Mon flower seed in a dish pan of dirt and they are starting to come up ! I never thought of mixing them with morning glories that will be beautiful.
I bought some Ipomoea seeds this year from Ferry-Morse....cheap bastards only put eleven seeds in the package! Seven of them germinated...but those seven have been awesome! This is my new favorite plant...I'm going to save ALL the seeds this year. First bloom appeared July 28...the next night, two blooms...the next night...three blooms! Then two, then three...and looks like i might have four tonight!
My morning glories are growing like a wildfire. One of my moon flower plants are trying to grow, but the morning glories overpowered them. I'll try planting it outside. Thanks for this. :)
I love these varieties and you use the same seed brand as I do! I didn't know seeds of Moonflower were poisonous or attracted bats at night...very interesting!! Thanks for posting.
Hello from Florida! Thank you for this lovely and informative DIY. I'm already looking into planting some of these beautiful vines. I do have one question however. Can these vines grow well with night blooming jasmine? Thank you in advance and have a great day!
I’m sure it could! And this is an annual that reseeds. So keep in mind that the vines will turn brown & ugly with a killing frost, and you’ll have to remove them from your Jasmine plants
They do perfect together! One blooms at night (Moonflower) and the morning glories bloom in the morning. And yes, you can put them in a pot together, but you want them to climb on something… they sprawl if you don’t 😊 thank you for watching!
Just an update....using steel t posts a post driver cable ties and some cattle panel I made a trellis 5 foot by 7 foot with an arch over the top that brings it to 9 feet tall....i now have 4 moonflower plants placed one at each corner....is white the only color they come in?
May I ask a question. I received a purple MoonFlower plant, Really small. It is from a bush, not a vine. Can I plant it in full sun or morning sun. Evening sun or just shade. Thank you!
None of mine grew. They get about an inch high then die. Do they like to dry out completely or ? I so want to have these in my garden. I have morning glories growing and thumbergia but these dang moonfllowers won’t.
I have been growing these for years but they do not fare well in the hot weather, but cooler weather, is that what you've experienced? I am in zone 7b so it gets to triple digit weather in the summer.
I’m in zone 8a so you & I are very close in our weather situations.. I agree with you about them not liking the extreme heat. They do better for me when they get some afternoon shade around 3 pm, and they like supplemental water when it’s getting dry in July and August
I was looking for Carlos Santana. Then I saw this. Well...the song was named after something, right? This woman is so smart. And I'm so fucking dumb. She is the counter to a century of divorcing us from our own biology. A singular genius that I can barely comprehend.
I try every year to grow moon flowers. Little luck. First year I had a huge fine and flowers since then so much trouble really trying hard this year to get at least one successful plant. Mine take weeks just to emerge from seeds. Even in my greenhouse. Zone 5
I have tried to grow it many times though without soaking with no success. Either they remain dormant or critters like squirrels & voles ate them out here. Next season God willing I am doing this
I took a moonflower vine out of a ditch where it was growing under mostly shade, i plan on growing it on the north side of my house where it receives no direct sun, will this be ok?
I have a Moonflower growing in my backyard. At first I thought it was a sunflower since we had so many of them growing wild last year. But then light green upright pods grew. Then I thought it might be Okra...but I grew Okra so I knew it wasn't that. I searched the internet and found what my plant is. So I read about it. Everything I read says they bloom at night and for very short periods. But all the flowers you've displayed here seem to be videographed in the day time. Confused here. I have Morning Glories in my yard...just a beautiful flower.
My morning glories have taken over my backyard, into the trees, over and under the shed (some of the vines are two inches thick) into my neighbors backyards and I'm having trouble eradicating them, I'm afraid that same will happen if I plant a moon flower.
That most likely won't happen. It kind of depends on what zone you live in but in most places in US, the plants die in winter and you have to plant the seeds for next year.
+Jason Rodriguez Morning Gloryies have dark seeds and only open their blooms in the cool of the morning. Moon flowers have pale seeds and open their flowers in the cool of the day,
you can, but it would be a waste of space. people soak them because you can take the ones that dont germinate out and save space for ones that you'll know will grow
I love Datura MoonFlower plants!!! I've got my morning glories for morning blooms, Mirabilis Jalapa(4 O'Clock flower) for evening blooms & tons of Datura Moonflowers for night time blooms & they last until the next morning when my morning glory vines bloom 🌸🌸🌸 I'd love to find someone that wants some of my Datura Moonflower seeds for some Moonflower Vine seeds!!
Moonflowers are so beautiful! My favorite

Lynette you will love these. :)
SWEET! Thats exactly what I did, planted morning glories with moonflower. I've never grown moon flowers though. I'm excited!
How did they do? Thanks for watching!
Moonflower plants are magic. You can use them to travel to the world of the dead, but you probably shouldn't, why would you?
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed to observe.
Here for Dani and Jamie.
Same..
Very very beautiful flowers
Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you for sharing...very beautiful!!!
I love your suggestions....and thank you.

Love the moonflower - this is my first time growing them in my country garden.
Great information. I am getting ready to plant mine today. I live in Fl, so I can get these going a bit later than other places. I soaked my seeds over night, well, 2 nights, and they have nice root foot started.

Great video, I'm definitely planting some next spring.
So gorgeous it doesn't even look real.
Thank you for this wonderful video! It is the most well done of all I have watched. If I could give it multiple thumbs up, I assuredly would!

It’s one word Moonflower

So enjoyable watching your video. I'm now planning on using your method. Love the outcome. So, so, pretty.
Thanks for the info! So smart!

Great video. Thanks for the information.
I started my morning glories and Moon flowers in pot. and in the house... we have a lot of squirrels digging around
Anna Simanovicki Are you going to leave them in the pot? I'm scared mine is going to grow too big.
Merry Christmas my friend!
My morning glories are growing like a wildfire. One of my moon flower plants are trying to grow, but the morning glories overpowered them. I'll try planting it outside. Thanks for this. :)

Hey love your flowers but I have a question do they need lots of water?
Great video! Im trying this now!
My dear Moonflower.
Wow! You are a pretty lady! :D
I plan to grow a moon garden this year, and this flower makes an excellent choice
My moon flower seeds look a lot different. Mine look like the seeds inside of a green pepper. Also, mine self seed. P.S., love your accent, cute.
Thanks for watching!

I have looked all over my moonflower vines and cannot tell where they will bloom from
How was it growing both together... Would you pot morning and moon in the same pot

I’ve only seen the white moon flowers but as the morning glories for lots of color!
Nice speech maim...
May I ask a question. I received a purple MoonFlower plant, Really small.
It is from a bush, not a vine. Can I plant it in full sun or morning sun. Evening sun or just shade. Thank you!
Do these moon flowers have any fragrance to them?
Yes they smell wonderful!
If there was a tornado and some of these seeds got blown into outer space and landed on the moon, would they grow like super good?
If they had water and oxygen, sure.

Soak overnight , when the seeds swell and crackle it’s time to plant

I took a moonflower vine out of a ditch where it was growing under mostly shade, i plan on growing it on the north side of my house where it receives no direct sun, will this be ok?
Ian, it really needs full sun. Or at the least , 4 or 5 hours
My moonflower seeds are different, they are black and when the plants come up, they are just like tomato plants
The tree frog is barking!
I have this leafy plant and the leaves raise upwards the later/darker it gets, and they droop down in the morning. What is this?
my chilli plants do the same, i think its something to do with the plant looking for light
Yes probably
My moonflower and morning glories are not flowering. Any suggestions?
Give them some time. They can bloom later than we want
Oh your ACCENT! Reminds me of Dolly Parton. I'm imagining you are from Tennessee or Kentucky?
