The reason religions exist is the need of humans to believe in something, yet in the Mandela Catalogue, that "something" doesn't actually exist, and it just showcases how exploitable humans can be when their beliefs are at play, that's what Gabriel exploited in the shepherds to send his underlings (alternates) to basically infiltrate humankind. Alex Kister really did a good job into dissecting the horror in Mandela Catalogue without using much gorefests and jumpscares, by using incredibly premature instincts.
