WOW, First time I can hear in a video the difference sound for each mic. I wish to get the Mke-440, but too much expensive in my case. Simple and effective approch to hear the travelling sound from one side to the other. The Sennheiser Mic MKE-200 and MKE-400 look quite different compare to other Mic on the market. More compact, more affective to avoid wind sound and much more easy to travel with it and avoid missing part. I''m canadian too and woundering if there is any problem to use it till -10C. There is no info about the operating range temp for that mic. My primary use is for outdoor recording and resolve wind blowing not for interview
I think it was a GREAT idea to add the music... you could clearly hear the function of the music... it got louder when Mr. Taku turned the microphones away from the water... I think it was just perfect to set it up like this! Bravo Mr. Taku!!!!
@@mavs8888 the point of the review was to hear as much as possible of the details captured by the three microphones, having background music clearly distracts from that and hides details.
Exactly what I just commented. Very strange that all those people are there to listen to all 3 mics and spot the differences.. but were the only ones noticing this.
Woul you recomment 400 for recording bird voices for video content? It is quite attractive because of builtin shockmount and being compact. I need to buy rig for mke 600 otherwise looking from viewfinder is annoying due to rear part where cables go blocking my head.
The 400 is great but it might not pick up the sound of the bird is far away or the sound is quiet. The 600 does a better job at picking up sound in front of it but like you said, the end does stick out. You can use the Live View in that case though apart from building a rig.
@@taku_kumabe thanks for your comment. I bought 400 because I was happy even with cameras builtin mic except taking too much handling noise. I want to try my chance with 400 as being my first mic.
@@taku_kumabe MKE600 is also not a good choice for bird sounds. It can extend further than MKE400 but not far enough. It's like saying 135mm focal length is better than 70mm for birding shots, but frankly it's still not long enough. You'll need to get a parabolic dish with the mic mounted in the center.
If I want to film walk tour, product reviews where I will have my commentary too and not always in front of the camera, maybe I will say something behind the camera in the walk tour too and I want to experiment and try to make music with singing and instrument and with a with a Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder, does the MKE 440 still for me or I need an omnidirectional microphone? Or use that 440 with another rear facing microphone? Is the Sony A10 recorder needed for some of these situation or I can use it as rear mic and voice over? That camcorder has an optional handle with LED and 2 XLR inputs but it will make the setup a lot taller even before add the mics, is XLR necessary and will I able to use the XLR handle as music inputs and recorder? Can the 440 do it all or better get a second or even a third mic, like the 440 and another bi-directional mic when I need to talk to the camera and a music mic? If I talk to the above of 440 from behind when it's point to the front, can my voice still be recorded clearly or I really need another mic? How about when I not in the camera, I place myself in between the item on the table and the 440 which is further behind so I can record what's on the table and also my voice without need another mic? I like the unique shape of the 440 and the wider and stereo option compare to standard shotgun mic but I not sure why people and camcorder with handle seem expect you to use standard shotgun mic and not stereo mic if they are outside
The shotgun microphones are ideal for recording audio from those standing directly in front of the camera. While both the shotgun mic and the MKE 440 will still pick up audio from behind, I wouldn't rely on them if you're going to be there for a long time. In your case it sounds like you'll be moving around a lot, so I would look into a wireless lav mic that you stick onto yourself. I just bought the Rode Wireless Pro for this very situation and it works fine.
Thanks for reply, you mean I better use 2 mics like a MKE 440 to record what the camcorder see and another mic to record my commentary? If so and I prefer not to wear the mic, what will be the solution, another mic point toward me? Will a 2 3.5mm ports to one converter will record the 2 mics into camcorder or a recorder in good quality, will it be same or separate track of same track but separate channel? Or is it possible to record the external and internal mics at same time on the Panasonic HC-X1500 camcorder and Sony A7RV, if not then better I record the MKE 440 to a small recorder attached to the camera so I can still use the camera internal mic for my commentary right?
And also after research, I think to get this setup, Sennheiser MKE 440, MKE 600, Line Audio CW4 and Deity HD-TX, is it good minimal setup that able to cover everyday life which is stereo, elements, instruments and vocal record for game and music? Any alternative I needed?
Are you sure you haven't confused the takes of the MKE 440 and MKE 600 in the voice recording part? I hear the MKE 400 and the MKE 440 in mono, while I hear the MKE 600 in stereo (water on the right).
Hi, really great video. I just purchased mke 600 for my little sony zv1. I kindly wanted to ask if it is normal that you have to set a fairly high audio recording level on the camera, around 15 while with the previous Rode 5 was enough. is it ok with 15 or too much and keep low and make 200% in editng? If you can give me some advice. Thanks
Each microphone and camera's audio input will be slightly different so it's best to experiment to find the sweet spot for your setup. I would first try not applying any gain on your camera, and set it at 15 or so. Then replay the video on your computer with headphones on to really hear how the audio sounds. Also use your video editor's audio controls to make sure you're about -6 dB in volume, making sure you're not clipping anything.
Good review... Question... Say I want to just record myself and a guest "fast." I can mic up with my Rode Wireless Pro 2 but it is not FAST. Will the MKE 440 work well inside with two voices? Or can you point me at one of your vidoes that cover this. I did look for one. :-)
Thanks. None of these mics will pick up your voice better than a lav mic will. You can check this video here for a demonstration of what it sounds like when I'm standing behind the mic: ruclips.net/video/0tIghqAdicM/видео.htmlsi=pUVdrABxMlMU_NNL and go directly to the Outdoor demonstration link in the TOC. But if you're directly behind the camera, then your voice might be a little clearer than what you heard in my demo since I was standing about 4 feet away. You can always put your lav mic on a stick and have the other person hold it while they talk, if you want a quick and clearer option.
@@taku_kumabe exactly, "background" music during a microphone review comes across as sort of defeating the purpose...you could have had the background music at the end when you summarized your results

Well done, good sir. Really enjoyed the review.
Thank you kindly!
Merci beaucoup Taku Kumabe ;-))

Lovely way of review. Love it. Great Content 🎉
Thanks so much for that!
Excellent demonstration, exactly what I was looking for.
Glad it was helpful!

This demonstration would have been perfect if you had turned off the music for the demo sections. Still the mke440 is a neat microphone.

the punch is in the final line : as long as the mic looks good on the camera who cares !
hehe...
Do not use background music when testing the microphone.
The MKE 600 at 01:37 must actually be the MKE 440 since it's the only stereo mic in the test.
Absolutely
