I knew this was a lot of work, but your documentation of it makes it look so much more. I would have cried over that mudslide. There always more satisfaction and appreciation for doing a job yourself, AND while only using basic hand tools. So glad you're not prone to earthquakes. Really nice job.
Oh my!!! Just got the chance to watch this and wow!!! It looks amazing! I don’t think my wall would be as big as yours but I’m still considering DIY’ing to save money. Thank you for sharing!
This!!! This is what I have been looking for!! Your before pic looks just like my front yard! I have been searching desperately for a DIY tutorial to make a beautiful retaining wall just like the one you have made here! My goodness thank you so so so so much for doing this! PS Your channel is wonderful I saw your name and subscribed immediately 🙏✌️
Well done! You guys can be super proud of yourselves.
The wall looks awesome!
This is insane. Great job!!! You guys conquered that slope!!!!
Thank you! I will use this to help plan my wall build!
I commented on an older video suggesting a picture of the backyard before the wall but this is way better lol! This is an absolutely amazing job! Its was very ambitious but the result is incredibly impressive. I would take a blanket and lay down by the wall when the shade starts showing. I bet it's a lot cooler down there!
Amazing!!
I live in West Austin (similar conditions but maybe more big limestone rocks) and truly appreciate the amount of very hard work it took to make this. The first time I dug a 2’ by 2’ by 2’ hole that took me two hours in 102° heat... it broke me.
I am planning on moving an existing retaining wall. I still may use an excavator but you’ve motivated me!
My only comment would be that the drain pipe needs to slope a bit (maybe it did) to move the water and I think putting multiple drains isn’t a bad idea towards the top as opposed to the bottom of the wall.
You have a new local subscriber!
Honestly I’m like totally scarred from the experience 😂 I’m so glad I did it though-it’s something I’m really proud about. Thank you for your kind words! Always wonderful to connect with more Austinites!
Hello from Austin ! New to your page! Thanks for sharing. We just started a wildflower garden. Going to get some poppies and bachelor buttons that was a beautiful display 😎
Great work
Final product looks great. That mudslide tough 😓
Hi.. if I try to do retaining wall for my mini garden but it have slope .. should I lay down rock for sand ? I saw people lay rock n sand not sure which one is right … pls help
That’s rough dealing with that mudslide. There is nothing worse than digging the same soil twice.
I also live in Austin! Do you live in the ‘24? I need to do this as well but the structural engineering costs prevent me from moving forward, did you get a permit?
Yep in the ‘24! We looked into permitting but determined it wasn’t necessary because it was shorter than the requirement. I can’t remember exactly what it is but the city had all the details on their permitting dept. Best of luck!
Baetanical i knew it was the ‘24! haha. the permit says anything above four feet including footing :O
this project is on my list and has been for years now. i am deeply afraid after watching this video 🤣🙃😛
I... am not sure I would do this again after watching my own video 😂
