  • One of the greatest Disney movies of all time did not exactly have an equally great history...at least according to the creators. To anyone on the outside, it's one wild ride.

Fun fact: Jim Carrey was originally intended to play the bowler hat guy, however he went to do the movie The Number 23 (2007) He did end up voicing an animated character a year later, Horton from Horton Hears A Who.
Another Fun Fact: This movie came out just 29 days after I was born so yeah.

Meet the Robinsons has always been one of my favorite 3D animated Disney films. The whole production of this film has intrigued especially knowing the ending was planned to be more comedic and also how they clearly had to rerecord Wilbur's lines when his voice deepened during production.

Actually, there were two of them. The scene where Wilbur tells Lewis "You gotta admit, this would be a great story to tell me someday." just before Doris destroys Carl was also recorded during the original sessions in either 2004 or 2005.

Meet the Robinsons has always been one of my favorite Disney films. But, as an adult, it means even more to me now than it did when it first came out.
In July 2022, my mom and I watched a film the night before I was planned to go back to school for the year. Unbeknownst to me at the time, her Ovarian Cancer (she had been battling it for nine years at that point) had came back and begun spreading. The film we chose to watch was Meet the Robinsons. We both laughed and smiled and had a great time.
A few days later, I get a call that she had entered hospice. I went home immediately to take care of her. She ultimately passed away in Aug. 2022, just a few weeks after the night we watched that movie together.
Meet the Robinsons is a brilliant film that will now hold a special place in my heart.
Side note: the voice of Young Franny in the film is played by Michaela Murray aka the voice of Toph in Avatar the Last Airbender. Just thought it was an interesting little fact to throw out there.

As an adopted person, I liked the message of found family and how blood truly doesn't matter in the end. I'll never be able to know who my birth parents are or what they look like, and this movie helped me cope with that fact when I began to realize more about how being adopted impacted me

This was one of the few movies I saw in the cinema twice, mostly due to unexpected circumstances. The first time was with family & the other time was during a school trip.
Funnily enough, the second trip was what seared the 'keep moving forward' message into my brain.

Such an underrated movie! One of my favorites, too! When I was a kid, I loved Jimmy Neutron, and, ever since I watched this movie for the first time, I loved it, because I was always a sucker for the boy genius stories. So, this film was definitely for me! It's just too bad it failed. Probably would've worked a little bit better if it had been a show instead. But, understanding its roots, why it was made, and what it went through before finally getting released, it all makes perfect sense.

As somebody who grew up with an informatitian father and gamer brothers, I got really into stuff with technology or sci-fi stuff in it, I even wanted to be astronaut before settling to be an artist. I'm glad to consider Meet The Robinsons as part of the same "sci-fi" and "neat robots" circle as Power Rangers, Transformers (The Bay movies, some of Animated, the Unicron Trilogy, and G1), Blue Skyes' Robots, Johnny Test, Totally Spies, Jim the Astronaut (a stop motion series about astronauts helping each other as neighbours), the Burton Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie (I mainly like it for all the machinery and sets), or Star Wars (Mainly episode 1,2, and 4. 3 with Anakin burning scared me a lot, and I never bodered watching episode 6 as a kid being scared by Luke being hurted in the beginning of episode 5. I don't even think I saw all of Episode 5 as a kid).
It's maybe not my favorite of the Disney CGI line up (That would be Wreck-it Ralph or Monsters Inc/The Incredibles if we take account of the Pixar Cathalog pre-Disney buying them out.) but I really like it.
As somebody who watched the movie in his home language (French-canadian) and was born in 2002, I didn't knew that Mike TV's actor played Louis or the involvement of Adam West and Tom Sellek as part of the cast (I think I saw this movie way before the Batman '66 series and the movie was probably the first time I heard about Tom Sellek before knowing him as the "Magnum/was almost Indiana Jones/3 men and a baby us version/that movie where he do baseball in japan" man).
Carl's body built little by little in the ending, it always was quite eye-catching to me as a kid.

Hot take, but I like Meet the Robinsons more than Tangled. Also I like that you didn’t mention that The Wild came out before this. I know that it isn’t really Disney canon, but that movie was a forgettable mess of a movie that flopped financially and continued to damage the reputation of Disney animation as it was seen as a complete ripoff of Dreamwork’s Madagascar, which it pretty much was, lol

I admit, I was one of those people who judged this movie rather harshly, being a much bigger fan of 2D animation, I saw films like this as nothing more than pointless and shameless cash grabs. Then some time after it's release, when it aired on TV, I decided to give it a chance and I was very glad that I did! I found it to be very inspiring and every time I watch this movie, I'm reminded why I love it and it continues to inspire me! i had never heard it before, thought it sounded neat. wanted to see it, but didn't see it used in movie. But years later after loosely knowing a few lines, figured out and found the song...or i think i saw someone say the title in the comment section of the promo. really enjoyed the song.
