- Have you ever sent or received Apple Cash and wondered where that money goes?
Because it isn’t deposited into your bank account, and it doesn’t exist as real paper money.
Instead, it’s held in something called a stored-value account. Which is managed by Green Dot Bank, an FDIC insured financial technology company.
The account is automatically created when you set up Apple Cash, and it functions like a digital prepaid debit card.

Apple won’t let you delete your account while you have a balance on Apple Cash or on your App Store account. Apple care will try to get you to spend down the balance or cash out the account before the system will let it be deleted.

0:13 very minor correction but fintechs are not FDIC insured. Green Dot Bank is FDIC insured in its capacity as a registered bank, which is where Apple Cash account balances are stored. It operates as a fintech in its operation of Apple Cash services and payment platforms but the money storage and insurance is part of the banking division.

Should mention that transferring Apple Cash to another Debit card in your Apple Pay will result in fees. The fee free option is transferring to a bank account that you setup in Apple Pay for transfers out.

I think we don’t have Apple Cash in Germany. 🤔 Just Apple Pay. And since I have changed my Apple Watch from series 6 to series 10, somehow Apple Pay doesn’t work anymore with the new watch. Any suggestions?!

1:15 this isn’t fully correct either. Apple Cash balance withdraws are sent by default to bank accounts (usually chequing), not cheque (debit) cards. You can add a bank account in settings (only one at a time but you can change it whenever you like) and that’s the only fee-free way to take your money out of Apple Cash. Withdraw to a cheque card has been a new option for a while now but it comes with a fee (1.5%, minimum $0.25, max capped at $15). You can add money to your Apple Cash balance FROM a debit card for free and it’s the only way to load your balance besides someone sending you money, since ACH is used to withdraw your balance but cannot load it.

When will Apple ever expand the Apple Card in to other markets? Yes each country has different regulations, but why has there been no movement in ~10 years?

It's just a different way to use money. You can use it like any other card on your phone, but you can send money to other Apple users way faster and easier. You can send it through messages, tap your phones together, or ask siri to send it.

I think this is horrible. One day my sister rejected money my dad sent to her and my dad never received it. Apple customer service didn’t really give us a clear option. All they said was something about the policy.
If someone rejects or does not accept the money it gets automatically refunded. I've had this happen.
