John Brown's Body is the original tune. John Brown's body lies a moulderin' in his grave. John Brown the abolitionist was hung for his ill-fated raid on Harper's Ferry.
In my life so far I may have realized I am strange, I am aware of this, but I had no idea a small area where a man has made some beautiful instruments out in the swamp would enamor me so much! honestly this is so cool. I look forward to hopefully more swamp dulcimer vids!!
beautiful. i grew up in white springs fl. as teenager used to listen to musicians playing instruments like this. lot of music out there in the country.
@@swc59 did you make it? sounds fantasitic and deep... i do seagull and mountain standard. yours would go well with a mandolin and a euki that is its tone quality, try it some time!
Got a question, why do you call it a swamp dulcimer? because you play it in the swamp? you made it from swamp ash? or because of the shape? sounds good, just curious.
What notes is it tuned to? I've had a dulcimer for several years and still working on the basics. Your instrument and playing calms the soul. Thank you.
You're picturing a hammer dulcimer. Mine is an example of a lap dulcimer, also known as a mountain dulcimer. The lap and hammer dulcimers don't have much in common, lol.
Thanks! I have some albums on Bandcamp that can be downloaded for free. The one that is closest to the type of music I'm playing here is this one: swcampbell.bandcamp.com/album/homebuilt
All three were sung by soldiers during the Civil War. First one by the north, second by the south and the third was sung by both sides but the lyrics were different.
"Outdoor music room" - what a neat project!
**uses best Civil War drawl**
And the playing ain't too shabby, neither. 😉
Thanks!

Thanks for clueing me into that. Just did some reading on it. Really interesting!
With respect to the Civil War, second place is the first loser. Loser
Well, if we’re going original wouldn’t it be Say Brothers? I do believe it was written by William Steffe in 1856 or thereabouts
What. A lovely sound from a remarkable instrument. Thank you for sharing.
Thank YOU for listening!
So resonant

Many thanks for one of the best comments I've received! I plan to shoot a new video within the next couple weeks.
What beautiful foliage!
Being from the Pacific Northwest i've very scarcely seen an environment like this and its wonderful.

Well fantastic. Thank you for sharing that! Beautiful.
Thanks, man. Appreciate it!
Nice playing, enjoyed. I love the dulcimer and play a little.
Thanks!
I never heard of a swamp dulcimer before.
It's just a dulcimer that was built from swamp wood and is stored and played in the swamp. Other than that, just like any other dulcimer.
So wonderful, thank you.
Thanks 😀
that thing has a huge sound box listen to the deep tones!
Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised by its tone.

Because it was made from wood on my property in the swamp and because I play it there. Not sure which is more important to the name. 😄
Really nice!
Thanks!
Awesome!!!
Thanks!
Very cool

Thanks! It's tuned DAA.
@swc59 Thank you. Maybe I can figure out the fingerings with that info, or do you have written notation for it? It's a favorite song of mine.
I'm sorry - I play everything by ear. I don't have any tab for it.
sweet!
Thanks!
Green swamp as in here in florida right?
Yep. I'm just on the Southern edge of it.
I thought dulcimers were hammered, not plucked?
