I'm not 100% on my music theory, but I believe the opposite of "musical and narrative climax" is "musical and narrative edging" 👀

The thing I love about Orville Peck is that he really gives back the story telling of older country music, that was sort of lost with things like stadium country, where it's beers and women and tractors.

    • @michaelinthebathroom7560

That description brings Bo Burnham's Country Song (Pandering) to mind. I completely agree.

@@michaelinthebathroom7560 Omg yes, that's exactly what I was thinking of. Country music kinda just got jealous of rap for awhile, but it's (hopefully) coming back to its roots.

@@clownyApologies I've listened to country music my whole life, and I was never really into the whole stadium country thing. For a long time I listened to what was on the radio, but eventually I found a station that plays classic country and I LARGELY prefer that. Can't even tell you the last time I listened to a radio station that plays current country. I will say I'm a fan of Luke Combs, Hardy and Lainey Wilson the most out of all the newer artists, though.

the first song is actually by a latin artist, and then it was covered by willie nelson, and then orville covered it with willie

      Yeah, it’s a 43 year-old song. Crazy.

    • @godzeven
      @godzeven Месяц назад

The original Latin artist was also thinking of Willie Nelson when he made the song if I'm correct

    • @willjohnson8446
      @willjohnson8446 Месяц назад

@@godzeven Nah, Ned Sublette wrote it in New York City in 1981 at the peak of the Urban Cowboy craze. He wrote it on the piano at a gay western bar called Boots and Saddles.
Nelson heard the song in 1988 when the bassist for SNL, Tony Garnier, introduced him to the song. Willie would play it often for folks over the years before recording a cover in 2006 in the wake of Brokeback Mountain.

The more you hear Orville, the more you love him. All the videos are tied together with a bevy of actors, singers, and comedians in the background playing supporting roles... Elvis's grand-daughter, Noah Cyrus, Margaret Cho, Diplo, a bevy of famous Drag Queens... he writes most of his own music and was trained in classical ballet. He is currently in a relationship with a handsome man named Billy. I discovered him through listening to the music of Trixie Mattel when I watched the video for "Jackson" and heard his voice. At first line i had to look him up and have been captivated ever since. Look up unriteous brothers and watch the two vids he did: unchined melody and loving feeling... the notes he hits are amazing!

The collaboration with Shania Twain is a big thing because she was also a trailblazer, and controversial country artist when she released her first song. The video got banned from being played on country channels because she *showed her mid drift*. She wasn't afraid to do her own thing with country.
Do a Shania Twain stan and go with: "what made you say that" (her first release), "Man I feel like a women", "That don't impress me much", "I'm gonna getcha good", and "Up"

edit: Ok I watched, this was brilliant! I just love the care you always take to listen to the whole song and then properly disect the lyrics. Orville pecks work is so layered into his lyrics, but also so much of it is expiriencing the soaring strength of his vocals. you always really honor the work that an artists has put into crafting every song.
for more song suggestions I would recommend Let Me Drown (live), Curse of the Blackened Eye, Daytona Sand, and Jackson (duet with Trixie Mattel)

You nailed it on what us 'Peckers' have been feeling about Orville since 2019.
After I started sending out his tracks to my friends, they all gravitated to his music as well...pretty much instantly.
He definitely carved out his own niche and it's almost a genre of its own. I'm not much of a country fan, and I don't see this as being country either. Very unique and totally enthralling.
Other tracks that I really enjoy are Kalahari Down and every track from his new release Stampede, which just came out.
ps: and I don't think 'Peckers' is an actual thing, I just made it up - but it kind of made sense to me on a couple levels. LOL.
Keep up the great job Bill and your authenticity really came out in this video.

She also has never lost her happiness and trying to be better and trying to love all. Gag Order is one of my favorite albums of hers and maybe one of my all time favorite albums. but I honestly love to listen to it all the way though. Not that it doesn’t have some bangers. But it’s kinda of cathartic. 🖤

I loved watching your reactions. They're was so insightful and honest and heartfelt and I love how the music really connects with you. I love how you're not afraid to let it affect you.
You really need to do a deep dive on Orville Peck. Based on what you've said you like about him, there's so much more, and I think you'll just adore it. Also... you don't need to apologize for picking a lot of break-up/heartbreak songs. Trying to avoid them in Orville Peck's discography is like navigating a minefield.
As for recommendations, my favourite song of his is 'Let Me Drown' which is the best example of his soaring vocals really going for broke, but be warned, that one absolutely wrecks me every time.

I have listened to bits of Orville Peck, and always loved his voice, but never really listened in depth. Your video has inspired me to take a deeper listen, so thank you.
Thank you also for your emotional honesty. It is inspirational to see someone who is so open with their feelings.
My favourite Orville Peck song so far is his cover of Bronski Beat’s Smalltown Boy, which is an iconic 1980’s song about a young gay man who is bullied and runs away from home. As well as the original having an amazing volcano range, which Orville Peck covers excellently, I love that a gay artist today is covering a song that was so significant to me as a queer youth growing up under section 28 here in the UK. Section 28 was the UK’s “Don’t say gay” law, which was brought into law by Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government in 1988 when I was 6 years old, and remained active throughout my schooling and teaching career, only repealed in 2003, when I was 22. The impact of growing up under that legislation is immense, and I am still feeling the hurt now.

To me it's a coming out song. Orville is encouraging all the sad boys like him to let it out and stop hiding their true feelings.
And as the song progresses the hostile bar full of toxic men transforms around the guy in the closet into a welcoming place of safety as he gets the courage to let himself cry it all out.

You should try some Shawn James music. He's not country, but similar feels and similarly strong vocals. Definitely some of the most soulful and deeply emotional lyrics in his genre, which is listed as "singer-songwriter", but has heavy blues, gospel, and Americana influences. Definitely worth looking into, especially with the kind of music you tend to enjoy the most in these videos.

Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond of Each Other is a classic. Love Willie’s version, tho I must admit Pansy Division’s is my favorite. But PD are always top tier.

Orville Peck is amazing and I love his style! I'd love to see what you think of other queer country artists like Adeem the Artist and Amythyst Kiah! I feel like you'd really dig Reclaim My Name by Adeem and Wild Turkey by Amythyst

As awesome as this was it really lacked the best of his work. Bronco has so many masterpieces: The curse of the blackened eye, Kalahari down, Hexie Mountains, Let me drown.. and of course, if you like the happy ones, Daytona Sand (which was my very first introduction to Orville's work). From the recent work his Stampede vol.1 has mind-blowing good duets, like "How far will we take ir" with Noah Curys, and "Miénteme" with Bu Cuaron. Just sooooo many good songs. Honestly, the ones you picked are good but not great.

hi bill! i’d love for you to check out the kpop boy group ATEEZ. their discography is incredibly diverse so there’s a guarantee whatever you click on will be something new! they also just recently performed as coachella which was a huge milestone in their career and i can guarantee you wouldn’t regret checking them out! not only are their songs incredible but they are solid with vocals, dance, and performance (named ‘performance kings’ by many experts). TRYING MY BEST TO CONVINCE YOU! i hope you’ll consider, have a lovely day :)

I like his more country tracks. Hexie Mountains, Lafayette, City of Gold, Papa Was a Rodeo and Hurtin Kind are genius. Im less fond of his pop stuff with Shania and Kylie. Im just not a pop gay.

If you're going to do another Orville Peck video (which I personally would love, but no pressure) might I recommend l, in no particular order, Roses are Falling, Kansas (Remembers Me Now), Take You Back (The Iron Hoof Cattle Call), Outta Time, and Lafayette
