Luna Manzanares was born on August 22nd, 1990 in Havana, Cuba.
Luna started her musical studies in 1999, at nine years of age, in the school of arts ¨Paulita Concepcion¨, in the specialty of Choir Singing and Conduction. Since very early she stands out as a soloist singer, winning many school awards. Finishing her elementary studies she enters the Music Conservatory ¨Amadeo Roldan¨, in 2005, in the career of Theory Subjects and Musical Investigation. Once there, luna begins to participate in different activities as a solo singer guest of the young jazz saxophone player and composer Emir Santa Cruz. In 2006 she participates in the International Contest for young jazziest ¨jojazz¨, celebrated in Cuba, and she wins first mention in the category of Interpretation. She was the youngest contestant. As a result of this mention, she takes part in the new generation of the project ´los primos¨( the cousins) a cultural exchange between Cuba and Canada. In this project she performed in several Cuban stages, like the Tomas Terry theater of Cienfuegos and the Amadeo Roldan Theater in Havana; and many other performances in Nova Scotia, Canada, among them, the Halifax Jazz festival. She was 16 years old. Luna finished her musical studies in 2009, and she starts to collaborate with several distinguished figures like Haydee Milanes as a member of the band. At the same time she also integrated the Jazz Band leaded by the Cuban world recognized composer, arranger, producer and conductor, Joaquin Betancourt. In 2010 Luna Manzanares takes part in a tour around India with the project ¨ Young Cuban All Stars¨, with the composer, clarinet and saxophone player Ernesto Vega as a leader. This band was also integrated by young JoJazz awarded musicians as the pianist arranger and composer Alejandro Falcon, the bass player Gaston Joya and the drummer Michael Olivera. This tour had excellent critics in the Indian press. That same year she started working with different artists, not only jazziest but famous nacional singers and musicians, like Raul Paz, David Torrens, Descemer Bueno, Roberto Carcasses, Julio Padron, Beatriz Marquez, Lucia Huergo, Jorge Reyes, Alexis Bosch, Rolando Luna, Michel Herrera, etc. In 2011, Luna joins the classical music choir Schola Cantorum Coralina, and she continued her work with popular music artists. In June of this year she was selected to sing the principal song of the Cuban soap opera ¨bajo el mismo sol¨(music by juan a. leyva y magda r. galban), acquiring great success, and she decides to start her solo career, founding her own band, appearing in every Cuban tv shows. In 2012 she decides to tribute the music of the Beatles, along with the producer Enrique Carballea and the pianist, composer and arranger Alejandro falcon. She obtained great popularity with this project, becoming one of the most important young voices in cuba. In the present she works in her fisrt album with the famous composer Descemer Bueno. She has been part of over 15 cds and recorded for 7 movies, one of them was nominated to the Oscar and Goya awards, the Spanish movie ¨ La voz dormida¨, by Benito Zambrano. 2015 she started her next big projects. A tribute album to the unforgettable Whitney Houston. And a solo album with wonderful new songs. A new star is born. Luna Manzanares.
