  • In 2008, Kelly Kennedy was a reporter for Military Times who broke the first story about how burn pits poisoned service members in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over the next 15 years, her dogged reporting galvanized reporters, advocates, and elected officials alike, which led to the largest policy change in the history of VA healthcare. During the 2023 War Horse Symposium, Kelly Kennedy, now the managing editor of The War Horse, spoke with VA Secretary Denis McDonough about toxic exposure, the origins of The PACT Act, and the future of veterans' healthcare.
The War Horse News hosted the conversation on April 6, 2023, at The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, in partnership with The University of Chicago's Harris School of Public Policy.
The War Horse is an award-winning nonprofit newsroom focused on the human impact of military service. The newsroom's reporting has led to bipartisan changes in military policy and federal law, and is the recipient of three Edward R. Murrow Awards, and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Journalism Award. The War Horse's writing workshops are the preeminent professional development program for veterans and military spouses in journalism.

Great video but the audio is so quiet. I’ve got AirPods with max volume and can barely hear. :/
