If its a Type of Performing (Racing/homing,Rolling, etc) You can hold it from the back part,thought It's a choice,It is preferred to hold it from the back,But regular Pigeons are not held the way Performers are due to it not being comfortable.

Good video. I like a Student of his own birds. However, personally I like the Tennis ball shape body. They seem to "slide out" of your hand while handling them! Those are THE BEST in my loft!

never hold a bird that way, you get the best feel for a bird if you hold it in between the legs and around the top
