You are a savior! My dance teacher has underestimated me for so long! She was shocked that I could even do a fouetté out of a pique turn. This has helped me soooo much! I'm going to show her tomorrow, that I can do more than just one ok fouetté!
Great tips! I never had a teacher actually deconstruct a fouette like that. It really made sense to me and I'm sure it will help my muscle memory click on now that i have those mental tips. Cool. :-)
Katie, I danced up until high school, even thinking about dancing professionally but ended up not going that route. I stopped dancing altogether because I just couldn't do it but after about 5 years, I started taking classes again once a week. It's so frustrating at times to not be my old self but I'm enjoying it so much more! I'm even hoping to go back on pointe once my weight comes off. I wish I had your videos to watch when I was actually pursuing dance as a potential career. :) Thanks for everything. Sarah
This helped so much! I have to do 12 turns in my competition dance and I was a little discouraged, but when I watched your video I instantly showed improvement! thank you!❤️
As a dancer, my worst quality is my turns and pirouettes of any kind, and these videos really help! I now know some other tricks to work on at the barre as part of a routine in order to gain the number of pirouettes and fouettes I can do. Thank you Kathyrn!
Thank you! This gives me hope that I will be able to do them one day. :) Also, you are probably the only person whom I have ever seen speak and fouette at the same time! That is so clever; well done! :)
Thanks for the tips!! My dance teacher said I need to work on my fouette turns and to not only get more training with her but do my best to train at home. This video gave me alot of tips and helped ALOT. Also, doing a releve early helped because i never did that and i tried and it actually cleans up the fouette when i do it and makes it look better. I could always do a fouette turn, just not really good. Plus I am on a competition team so i have to learn how to do it better. Thank you very much! Your directions and tips were very clear, and i will recommend this to anyone having trouble with fouette turns! THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :)
Everything makes sense now!! Thank you so so much for this video, I finally got my fouettés after 2 years of trying!!! Turning has never been my string suit so for it to finally happen I just can’t believe it!!Ahhhh I’m so excited I can’t thank you enough!!
I have watched so many videos on tips for fouette turns or how to do a fouette turn and none of them have helped or were very good at explaining. This video has helped me so so so much. Thank you😘
Yes! I can do fouettes perfectly fine on flat, and I have good balance and strength en pointe, yet for some reason I have extreme difficulty doing multiple fouettes en pointe!!
HELP ! Knee pain when I do splits and when I stretch! Hope you can make a video about knee pain and how to help it or more stretchung tips about it! Thankyou!!! I love your videos and tutorials!
Gosh I just saw the room next to you dance room. I think it's full of point shoes, I'm dying right now. How manny are this 100, no more! Heaven, really heaven
Hi Katie!!! You don´t have ideia of how much it helped me!! And so on time! I have exactly 3 weeks before my "test".. It´s Bolshoi Brazil´s test, and, wow, that helped so much improving my fouettes!! Thanks!!!
for the First time in my Life i understood How to do a fouatte!!! I'm not in ballet classes anymore so it's pretty harder to do for me... so thank you so much for the help Kathryn!!!
It's really nice to see the right way and the wrong way of doing things. And I've never been told to releve earlier but I think it looks so much better and will help me a lot!! Can't wait to see more videos like this
Something that helped me EXTREMELY is thinking of it this way: Personally, I have good A La Secondes but horrible fouettes. And this tip really made it easier to understand and get on track with fouettes. Think of doing an a la seconde then bringing it into passe at the last minute. Sounds minute, and may be for some, but for me, I had been practicing a la secondes so often that I committed it to muscle memory, so I use used that muscle memory and brought it back into passe.
I love this video! It's really helpful to have short instructional videos that teach tips you might forget or not know. I usually don't watch videos longer that 20 mins and this was great! Thanks Katie!
nrp961 If you do a DOUBLE pirouette at the beginning it will give you plenty of momentum to do multiple fouette turns without any struggle. Hope this helped!
Hi Katie :) If its not too much hassle for you, would you be able to closed caption your videos? The ones like these where there is some echo can make it a little difficult to hear therefore closed captioning would really help :)
This is great. I've neve seen a video so informative and helpful. Also, I like how you get to the point without a whole bunch of extra talk. You've been so helpful. Thanks!
I can actually do the turns now!!!!!!!! I swear I just watched the video once and then I thought of giving it a try, and it worked!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️😭
I learned how to do these without seeing any vids I just like saw people do them and figured it out. However I tend to jump when I do it and shift but I am working on that and this vid really helped.
Thank you so much because my dance teacher thought I had been working on foutees but she had never thought them to me and she just thought me the form and I really want to nail them and put them in my next solo
Omg thank you for that first tip (if you can’t do 32 relevees, you won’t be able to do 32 fouettés). I’ve had teachers tell me everything BUT work on your relevees. Or they’re like “why can’t you do these? You need to work harder.” K thanks for that load of help🙄 You’re awesome Katy! 💜
Thank you so much. All mt sance buddies have amazing turns and im working on mine, so im praying to the dance gods i will be able to turn and not look gross. By the way your arm motions are the funniest thing ever.
I love this I don't dance at all but I just wanted to try it out so I started practicing everyday and watching your video and now I can do 2 in a row thanks!
This is so great thank you so much! I was just going through my books on my kindle yesterday and I was going through them by author then I realized you were the author to one if my books! When I was watching your pirouettes video I thought alot of the tips sounded familiar! It's funny because that's not why I watched your videos or read the book. I just came across both of them for totally different reasons! I loved both if them! They are so helpful! You love dance and makeup like me! I love your channel! Thank you so much!
A great tip for not wobbling is to engage your core. Something I do is that I will go into demi pointe and engage my core then go into releve and hold. If it's easier, practice on the barre.
Hi this is a preteen dancer. Could you please elaborate on how to prepare and get into the correct positions for the turns? Thanks, this video helped!😊
Hi Kathryn. I'm writing from Argentina. I was wondering if you could make a video of a basic topic: how to strenght the abs while we are dancing . Thank you very much for all your teachings!!
Thank you this was so helpful!! I have always struggled with fouetté turns and at my ballet, there were so many in the routines so i have been looking on youtube for tips and this video was amazing!! Thank you so much!
I think a great video would be tips on picking up a new style at summer intensives. You have experience in doing so with Balanchine, but I think the same advice could apply to picking up vaganova or other styles as well. Could be very helpful!
Can you make a video of exercises and ways to strengthen yours legs for fouettes? My problem is that I try to keep my leg at 90 degrees to the side while keeping my hip down but then I collapse on my standing side. When I think about keeping my standing side pulled up, my leg lowers. Loved this video too! I got some great tips to try next time I’m in the studio.
She’s talking about 32 turns im just out here trying to do one
Same
same i do rhythmic gymnastics and i dont. know how to do 1
Fr
SAME
I don't think you should worry about it. I've seen it give a principal dancer problems executing just 2 or 3. So, you're fine!
You are a savior! My dance teacher has underestimated me for so long! She was shocked that I could even do a fouetté out of a pique turn. This has helped me soooo much! I'm going to show her tomorrow, that I can do more than just one ok fouetté!
I find this
Unfair. Your teacher should better help you more!!!
Did anyone else see the loads of pairs of pointe shoes in the background?
Yeah just outside the door 😂
Yup 😂😂
xXSonriaSkiXx lol same

This was really helpful, could you do a video on penches?
oh livi ah what are penches
Dancerina 101 basically you’re in arabesque, then you move your leg up and up and it tips your body over
Yup they’re a bit difficult for me
Everything makes sense now!!

Thank you😘

This is insanely helpful! You're really good at explaining things clearly! :)

Yes! I can do fouettes perfectly fine on flat, and I have good balance and strength en pointe, yet for some reason I have extreme difficulty doing multiple fouettes en pointe!!
There is one on Claudia Deans channel
HELP ! Knee pain when I do splits and when I stretch! Hope you can make a video about knee pain and how to help it or more stretchung tips about it! Thankyou!!! I love your videos and tutorials!

That relève practice in the center is so helpful! Thanks!
It's really nice to see the right way and the wrong way of doing things. And I've never been told to releve earlier but I think it looks so much better and will help me a lot!! Can't wait to see more videos like this

Thanks so much! Once i get back in the studio from my 3 week break for summer i cant wait to put these tips to use!
How do you gain momentum? How do u push up I have a hard time gaining speed at the beginning is the trick in ur plié
start with a pirouette
nrp961 If you do a DOUBLE pirouette at the beginning it will give you plenty of momentum to do multiple fouette turns without any struggle. Hope this helped!
Lol How Do You Do 2 XDD
its honestly all in your spot
nrp961 you start with you basic pirouette and they swing of your leg with continue the momentum by pulling it in
Hi Katie :) If its not too much hassle for you, would you be able to closed caption your videos? The ones like these where there is some echo can make it a little difficult to hear therefore closed captioning would really help :)

I already can do 32 fouettes en pointe but this brought me back to the basics! Thanks!
I learned how to do these without seeing any vids I just like saw people do them and figured it out. However I tend to jump when I do it and shift but I am working on that and this vid really helped.
Great thanks! I needed some extra help with turning. I started later than most in dance so I am trying to "catch" up with some of these tips.
Thank you so much, Kathryn ! Your explanation is amazing ! Your tips are really, really helping me ... so much ! Hugs from Brazil !
Fabulous stuff! I love the arm and the working leg moving at the same time!
OMG this helped me so much so now I have better stability and overall good fouette!
Thank you so much because my dance teacher thought I had been working on foutees but she had never thought them to me and she just thought me the form and I really want to nail them and put them in my next solo
This helped so much cause I learn my solo in August and I’m kinda of scared but this helped me get better on my fouettés
This saved me I was literally crying because I couldn't get more than 4 so thank you so much!
I was able to do fouetté turns but this got me to do up to 40! I thank you so much!

Omg thank you for that first tip (if you can’t do 32 relevees, you won’t be able to do 32 fouettés). I’ve had teachers tell me everything BUT work on your relevees. Or they’re like “why can’t you do these? You need to work harder.”

I know this video is old but I’ve been really into your videos lately and I can’t wait to try the tips in this one!
Hi this is a preteen dancer. Could you please elaborate on how to prepare and get into the correct positions for the turns? Thanks, this video helped!😊
I'm not very good at turning, but I think this will help a lot. Could you make a video about improving spotting? It would be a HUGE help.
