I've had my HD for 35 years, a 1988 Low Rider Sport, 1340cc, hot cam, big carb and V&H shotgun pipes. I am never selling it! It took me till 2023 to even think of buying another bike, then I brought a 2022 HD Pan Am Special, the army green version, and I love that too. I think people are too quick to trade in there bikes, especially RUclips creators.

I just completed a 2500klm road trip over 8 days. Rained 80% of the time. Would not have had it any other way than on my Sport Glide. Stage 1 with V&H Big Radius pipes. It’s a head turner and now just over 26,000klms on the odometer and still feels new and tight. It’s a keeper. Never failed me and it’s simple, raw and without all the tech BS you just don’t need. 👍

I thought I loved my M8 Low Rider until I bought the Pan America. OK, the PAm looks like a trail bike, but you know, I do really like the looks of it, it's a big solid motor bike and it's my go to bike. The Low Rider gets little love these days. And 4 years on from it's release, folks are still asking me what bike is that, who makes it [the PAm].

You could just do a refresh. New seat new grips new pegs. I always throw a cam in my bikes. I think it’s the best bang for the buck and really wakes them up. You could upgrade the shock. Change the pipe for a different sound? It would certainly make good content.

Totally agree with you, I have had lots of niggles with my SPG but it does everything I need and want, I tour, I bar hop, it is the nicest all round bike that I have ever had. I still look at it and think " what a nice looking bike" We convince ourselves that we need a new bike, WHY?
Glad to hear some sensible honest thoughts .

I would never sell that Sport Glide because they don't make that bike anymore and IMO it will be a collectors item in 10 or more years and its an awesome looking and riding motorcycle. U can put an Avantblack faring on your bike and turn it in to a road glide with an even better looking faring and u will have a unique motorcycle that not every Joe on the road has. Also don't let Harley win with their every year price increases to where they will eventually come to their demise if they don't stop raising their prices.

Simple full of character no techy rubbish. Let’s you ride and she does go if needed. I am 65 just bought my second Sportglide. Mind I had to pop a can on the end just to have a little haley sound. Keep it enjoy. Brill videos mate. I have popped some mods on using your templates etc.

That's pretty much why I've kept all my bikes over the years and still enjoy riding them. I don't need the latest tech to enjoy a ride.

    Top of the morning, Alf.
Good video; I agree, totally. I really liked [10] the best... not stupid at all. Would it piss me off if someone else were riding my bike? haha, yep!
Yeah, that Sportglide is awesome; you'd have regrets if you sold her.
    Again, awesome video, mate!

If you like the bike keep it. You will save money and not have any surprises that sometimes comes with buying new. I still ride my 1974 FXE.

One of my reasons to keep my HD is that after owning the bike for a few years, I know my bike well mechanically. I have done the maintenance, i have the tools and i know which ones i need to use. I have improved the bike, engine, suspensions, tires, accessories and it suits me perfectly. One more point, for HD there are tons of tutorials about all aspects and also plenty of spare parts available online. Each time i look at it i find that it is a beautiful piece of mechanical. Cheers and thx for your videos.

Number 10 is the reason I never sell any of the things I own to someone I know because I don’t want to see it again. I want to be gone.

Some people get rid when they reach a certain mileage; thinking that high mileage = lower resale value.

I own from new, a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 1400. I like to look at other bikes out there at the dealers, but the more I do, the more I go back to what I have now. There isn’t anything else out there that’ll do what this one has and continues to do for me. I have a friend who owns a 1982 BMW R100RS and has had it since new. Obviously he has no interest in selling it.

    Morning Alf
    Great video mate.
Your thoughts exactly mirror mine on my Rks.
The voices in our heads their the ones, that pay the dealers morgages lol
Keeping mine too....like yourself 5 years in.
Dont want more tech either, and these days hard to avoid.
When I do hear the change voices too often, I go out for a ride on my blackbird that fixes it.
Trouble is, I can see me keeping that a long while too!.
As our cousins across the pond say "Big bang for your buck$" bike!.
Take care mate and safe rides 🤙🍻

Buy a second bike, thats what i did, big loss on trade in value and bikes arent selling fast, so i bought another as i owed nothing on the other and am enjoying both of them. My two cents.

Yes, there's always a better option but the softtail is a damn good bike. And they can be turned into a completely different style if you need a change . . . if a Harley is paid for like my RG is, I would NEVER sell.

Agh,along with age and maturity comes a decision with experience,of course you should keep it but somehow i am not surprised due to your testing of all the bikes you have had,now start upgrading it which of course is essential

  • @louhmx1136
    @louhmx1136 2 месяца назад +1

If you upgraded the rear shock the bike would be cemented as a forever bike.

I have to say I think people regret selling their bikes to buy the latest. Just look at the used prices of some of these clean older models and you can see them heavily desired.
Think of all those ex Dyna owners that wish they kept their bikes even though the softail is more superior . 😅

DON'T sell your Sportglide! It is a rare M8 model. Yes the Softail Lowrider S/ST is basically the same motorcycle, but there are NOT a lot of Sportglides.

Interesting topic I agree really if it’s not broke keep it it just depends on if there’s something you like more and question 10 yes I’d be pissed off I sold my speedmaster after 13 months of ownership and regretted it ever since but after a couple of other bikes I’ve now got the bike I said I’d have one day at the time of buying the speedmaster and that’s a brand new rocket and I am over the moon with it and I’m looking at adding another speedmaster to my garage so all is good I love the Harley’s but I look at what they cost and think I could get 2 triumphs for that price but a mate of mine has got a 2003 Harley night train all black& chrome 30.000 miles in perfect condition I might look at buying that bye for now

You'll no doubt get spanked on a trade-in so just get a second-hand bike that's different AND cheap to scratch that itch .
