Ever since I saw the movie, in the theatre, It was my personal head canon that the Grandma was chosen as a child as well, but she decided to stay on the island and follow tradition. Something she regretted later on, and saw her son turn away as well. This was why she recognized the heart and worked so hard to prepare Moana for when she would have to make the same decision. She never tried to make the decision for her, or even influence her, any more than her Father did. She just ensured that Moana knew she had a choice. And that was why the Ocean helped her to return, immediately, as a Manta Ray as Moana's spirit guide. She was a friend of the ocean. I hadn't thought about the heart keeping her alive, but that makes sense, as well.

She comes from a long line of Chiefs, and everyone from her dad's family side was drawn to the ocean (gramma Tala, Tui, and Moana). My theory is that Moana father is not actually her real dad but instead her real father, who was also the chosen one, is the one who died in the boating accident and then because they were holding the heart their consciousness became part of the ocean. This theory also explains why Moans is becoming the new chief at such an early age, because the real chief drowned. Her fathers friend then raised her as his own daughter and they kept it all a secret from her and that is why he is so frightened of her going near the water, because he doesn't want her to suffer the same fate as her father.

With Moana's father his friend didn't make it, and with Moana she almost died herself by getting stuck, but she kept calm and made it. The purpose was to teach them to not give up and keep fighting, even without the help of friends or the ocean.

A similar thing could be said about Namaari, because, even though she is the antagonist, she is the one who rebuilds the land. The story of Raya constantly interprets Raya as being the one who saved her land, but she chooses to petrify herself to give the position over to Namaari, and it’s worth mentioning that it wasn’t Namaari's choice to be given the task, but rather Raya's choice, but I think the gem was meant to be repaired by the one who had been involved in the gem breaking, meaning Namaari was the one who could repair everything. The reason Raya and the others gave the gem pieces was because they had the epiphany that if Namaari was the one who restored everything to normal, it would allow her to be seen as trustworthy again. Namaari planned the betrayal during her first meeting with Raya because she was intending on bringing Sisu's siblings back. Her part of the land (Fang) holds respect towards the petrified dragons by visiting their sanctuary whenever they can, which foreshadows the fact that she contributed to the gem breaking so that, when the time was right, she could obtain each piece of the gem to rebuild it, and this is supported by the fact that Raya took a hands off approach and chose to let Namaari rebuild everything and bring back Sisu's siblings. Her expression of devastation over Sisu’s demise was because she was having second thoughts about it, but eventually chose to do that because it was the next step to bringing the siblings and other dragons back, as it was a restart of everything, the water was drained since it would be a clean slate for her and Raya's land back to when dragons and regular inhabitants were coexisting with each other.

Personally, I think Te Fiti looks more like Sina than Moana. To me, it makes sense that Te Fiti would appear to a person with the face that best resembles that person's idea of a mother. For Moana, that's her own mother. Yes, Moana and Te Fiti look alike, but that's because Moana looks an awful lot like her own mom.
I'm SO glad I'm not the only one who believes Moana was NOT the first person called to return the Heart of Te Fiti. She was merely the first to successfully answer the call and not give up when faced with hardship.
As for the turtle, the ocean was also testing Moana's intelligence. Literally EVERY well meaning child under the age of 13 (and most of them over that age) would pick up that baby turtle, carry it to the water and plop it in. But Moana, at three years old, understood that the turtle HAD to make that journey across the beach on its own, or it would not be strong enough to swim once it reached the water. That neonatal sprint is critical to a baby turtle's survival. It's the only thing that develops their limbs enough to keep them buoyant in the water. Moana took her time to let the baby learn and grow on its own, providing only shelter from danger. That shows a level of intelligence and wisdom well beyond her years, as well as an understanding of how to work well with others and strengthen her whole team.
Also, Moana's dominant function is extroverted Thinking. Fight me.
The sundrop rampion was created when a drop of sunlight fell to earth in that spot. It's not unreasonable to assume multiple drops of sunlight hit the earth at that time. And since Te Fiti is a goddess, she could easily have requested the sundrops from the other gods in order to give each significant landmass a means of sustaining life independent of herself. But there's something else to consider: No sundrop falls independent of a drop of moonlight. They are paired, and when they are separated from one another, the drop of moonlight encapsulates itself in a moonstone opal, and grows extremely hard obsidian-like rock spikes around itself in order to protect itself. It seeks to be reunited with the sundrop, and when it gets there, the process is explosive. So if Motonui is host to a sundrop rampion, that means that somewhere in Polynesia, there's a moonstone looking to reunite with that sundrop. Anyone who possesses both the moonstone and the sundrop, and who knows the incantations to make them work, possesses power over basically the whole world.

I am curious if the reason grandma is so insistent on the prophecy is because she was chosen but failed a test.
It could be where he necklace came from, a gift from the first test that was meant to hold the heart.
Possibly, she had the rock and tried to get help to cross the break in the wave but no one believed her.
It is possible that her son, Moana's dad, see her talking to her partner about it and that is why he knows about it.
He may have even tried to take it for his mother, but failed.
He doesn't blame his mom, but blames the rock making both of them believe in enough to get other hurt, so he tossed it back into the ocean.
This was her second test that was failed, she didn't try going out since no one would help her and the rock was gone.
She became "crazy" about it because she felt she failed and she knew the end was coming for them but she couldn't do it on her own.
This would explain why the ocean likes her and why she was blessed with the longer life.
She ended up holding onto the rock to pass onto someone else once she became too frail to do the trip on her own.
So she held on long enough to pass it onto her granddaughter and gave Moana the help the grandmother was looking for all that time.

Also, still works for the theory about Moana being the heart because as an indigenous person, even when we are mixed with other races, we all do look alike enough that if we are apart for long periods we can hardly tell who is who. (Until they are older than 50 then all the sudden they have very distinct features)
Basically, I'm saying it is like that Moana can look almost exactly like her grandmother at that age.
Heck, I ended up with my white dad's features (like my 2nd grade pictures look like dad in the 2nd grade put on a wig)
Still, everyone mistakes me for my mother because I look like her, or my grandmother, but both are indigenous and I'm a few shades lighter.

    Mine are more logical:
Moana’s dad is rational and would see anything that could be magical as a rock. Considering they are familiar with bioluminescence, maybe this is what he sees. A bioluminescent rock.
I think there were signs that Moan’s grandmother was ill. As soon as we see her with cane, we see her struggling to walk. She seems paler. She seems to be out if breath and having a hard time moving without having to sit down. She does a good job hiding it.
I think Moana’s dad was being secretive with the boat because a) it was night and b) they were stealing a boat without permission. He created the rule after his friend died.
The paddle that Muai writes on is just a joke, in my opinion. The heart is another way of saying love so I don’t think it goes beyond that.
Do love the symbolism of Moana and Tefiti and Moana coming back as a turtle. I can see that after hearing thise theories.

I noticed when watching Moana that the theory of Moana being a sea turtle is a really good theory. not many may notice but on the boat that Moana took on her voyage across the sea I noticed that there was a carving of a sea turtle on the side so we have both the heart of te fiti in the sail but also a sea turtle carved on the side of it making both the 1st test and what her spirit animal might be connected.

You could also tie that last theory back to one you guys did a couple of years ago. That the shrine in Frozen 2 with all the spirits of nature is on one side of the Earth, and Moana restoring the Heart of Te Fiti is on the other, meaning those two events are intrinsically linked.
But it also goes a little deeper. I don't remember if it was you guys or Film Theory, but someone made a theory that Elsa wasn't raised by her parents, but rather her aunt and uncle, and her real parents are the king and queen from Tangled. I don't remember all the details, but it made sense at the time, and I think it can tie in here as well

    • @StarryEyed0590
      @StarryEyed0590 Год назад +3

That seems directly contradicted by Frozen 2, though, since it's explicitly stated that Elsa is a "gift" given to her parents because they were able to overcome their peoples' differences and choose peace and love. Also, Iduna absolutely can't be related to the Corona royalty, since she's actually Northuldra.

When Moana and Maui meet Tamatoa for the first time, there are two easter eggs in that scene, both when Maui gets his hook back. One, when Maui tries to turn into a hawk, he turns into an assortment of animals, one of which being Sven from Frozen. The other being the Lamp from Aladdin is seen amongst the gold on Tamatoa's back. I see these as only easter eggs, but I wonder what theories people have for why they are in this movie.

I have a theory that Moana and The Little Mermaid are connected. Specifically Lalotai and Atlantis (the region/country not the capital city). In the bonus scene at the end of Moana, we hear Tamota singing to himself before asking for help and complaining that because he is named Sabastian and doesn't have a Jamaican accent, no one likes him, that gives us a flimsy tie. Ursula's cave however, that has some pretty similar themes and vibes to parts of Lalotai that we see, including the creepy little sentient worms (the shrunken, dessicated merfolk). Flotsam and Jetsam are also more than just Ursula's familiars or pets, they themselves are inherently magic and bonded together as a pair, as seen by the fact that Ursula's can't look through the eyes of one or they other, she needs them to settle on the correct side of the other and use one eye from each. There's a lot of years between the two movies that can account for style choice differences, after all I remember hearing about Prince Erik being seen in another movie from years later (I think Repunzel?) , the King from Cinerella being on Erik's ship with a slightly different figure, and a few others here and there.

  • @rosebrigade
    @rosebrigade Год назад +1

Okay two things, I'm not convinced by the last 2 theories, they're outright debunked.
    1. The drawing on the oar Maui made wasn't a representation of 2 people. It's literally emoji form of "Love Maui". It's a common way to write autographs from celebrities, "Love (Celeb name here)". While she does look like Te Fiti I'm more willing to believe that she's just a spirit reincarnation sent to revive the original. But either way my only real gripe with the theory was the autograph, because if it was meant to symbolize two people, Maui wouldn't have left her on the island and try to steal the boat. He didn't even want to sail with her, the ocean forced him.
    2. The Golden Flower is not the work of Te Fiti. Throughout the movie and the series, we already know that the Golden Flower is a magical drop of sunlight that fell from the sky. (In fact it's seen happening from the intro of the movie.) Te Fiti has the power to give life, but her power isn't seen doing anything to the sky except covering it in black smoke when she's Te Ka and producing wind by exhaling. She presses her hands into the earth to give life to that she touches. Another debunk is that her power is symbolized with green glowing light, while Rapunzel's golden hair is symbolized by a golden glow, like the sunlight it represents. Being a plant doesn't mean the Golden Flower is Te Fiti's work. (Also wasn't it a while back that Super Carlin Brothers associated Rapunzel's power to Elsa's in the manner of which she receives it? Does that mean Elsa's ice power is now Te Fiti's work too? lol)

  • @foxpokemonforever4775

That last theory would be cool, except the true root of Rapunzel's power is the sun. For the theory to work we'd have to know more about Te Fiti's origins. Did she just always exist? Did she somehow *also* originate from the sun? In the TV show, Rapunzel herself IS the "Sun Drop" which fell from the sky and created her flower in the first place. The flower easter egg was neat (It was the first ever Disney Easter Egg I spotted on my own), but I doubt there's any connection beyond it being just that.

  • @mallorybotos1901

Ok but in tangled, Eugene specifically says that the flower was created from a drop of sunlight which tefiti would not have created. Great video though I had a lot of fun theorizing with you.

Considering Tafiti is basically nature itself, I don't necessarily doubt that it's the reason the flower grew.
