Given that captain Baba is clearly a reference to legendary former pro wrestler Giant Baba (the size and head shape give it away), it stands to reason the leopard mask was an homage to Satoru Sayama's in-ring portrayal of the iconic Tiger Mask.
17:09 While I appreciate you calling him Signalman and not Blue Senturion, I'm pretty sure the armor is more of a reference to Space Sheriff Spielban and the other Metal Heroes.
IMO, the Macross franchise has the best, most exciting and most dynamic action in any mecha franchise. And, for the most part, we have Itano to thank for that. So, just like when Kawamori makes something lackluster, I will forever be indebted to Itano-san.
Am I going to lie, I remember seeing Battle Royale high School many times that Blockbuster and Hollywood video. The cover art didn't look that interesting and I wasn't aware of who was behind it, so I overlooked this title many times! Hope I can find a copy that I can see what went into this production and maybe give it another chance.
I remember renting this from a Blockbuster many many years ago (or a different video store; they all had shitty anime selections). I was still sort of a wrestling mark and thus entranced by the words Battle Royal in the title. Little did i know what the hell i was getting into. Then again, i'd already rented MD Geist so it wasn't too much a surprise.
0:45 Any other Like A Dragon fans go "Oh! I know that place!" right here? LOL. Anywho, don't have much to say about this one. Never watched it back in the day. But I gotta feed the algorithm somehow.
crazy coincidence, i was just rewatching this bc i hadnt seen it since i was a kid but holy damn the animation quality was still as insane as i remembered.
I always felt There should have been a sequel. The power suit guy has a really cool design but kinda sucks in the OVA as the only fight he really wins is against a giant teddy bear, and otherwise gets kicked around by everyone. On top of that, there's a whole love triangle thing that kinda goes nowhere. I guess I should read the manga.
I remember watching this movie a few years back. The animation was a bit choppy in the story was quite confusing at times , but overall it was a decent watch. The ending theme song is an absolute banger. The only disregard that I have for this movie is the scenes of nudity and satanic subject matter.
All I know about this anime is the beautifully well-animated but groestrque scene where a character's body is reformed. You can see their muscles/sinew regrow and reconnect to one another. It's disgusting, but amazing to watch.
I mean, the notion of the goriest shot in a production being a scene about healing instead of violence adds a curious badge of uniqueness, does it not?
That scene is pretty much the only thing I remember about this anime, and I knew it was going to be featured in the video. It's such a good scene in an otherwise bad OVA.
No its just a poster in a Room even the poster says Felix the Cat in other shots still find that one anime has raymond Brigs the Snowman Snowman painting on a wall more weird.
And we are all JAZZED for the day you cover Angel Cop. Holy crap I will watch that with popcorn.
I love angel cop have the DVD too
The English Dub is legendary
on one hand it's a good thing there's so far only one anime with a random antisemitic rant in it. we don't need two
@@doyleharken3477 based. i love angel cop now
I can't wait. The English dub is legitimately insane.
The Swearing compilation here on youtube is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Oh man, the Angel Cop video will be one hell of a trip.
Buenas noches, me encantan tus vídeos. Sin duda, tu canal de RUclips es una joya para los amantes de las películas y OVAs de los años 80 y 90.
7:19 I saw this back in 2002 and those 7 words have been stuck in my head ever since.

Man i remember renting this video at Hollywood video back in the day.
When you did a vid on Legend of Lemnear I thought for sure Plastic Little wasn't far behind.

Yuki was the character designer of Bionic Six?!!!

Its on youtube for free! Its wild in a so bad its good kind of way but i still love it😂 i'll have to check out the manga at some point to
ah, but is it *Dark Cat* bad?
I see Kyoto Video's been dippin' into Blockbuster Video's stash. 😁

Looks like this OVA was also the recipient of a low-quality UK-produced English dub.
Those are not english accents
@@agentduck9285 True, but they could always hide said accents. Look up the cast of the dub, the VAs are UK-based.
@@aaronorenstein5963 bizarre... why would they produce a dub in england then put on american accents? That's really odd.
Not the first time it’s been done either-Bubblegum Crisis, Project A-Ko, Devilman OVA, and some others are good examples.
@@aaronorenstein5963And the lovely The Ultimate Teacher.
Man the day you do Angel Cop
This one definitely needs a remastered Blu-ray version from the original film not the laserdisc or DVD.
2:25 Macross Missile Mass-cre for me. And it would be interesting to hear your take on *Space Runaway Ideon*
Some scenes looks like Satoshi_Urushihara is in doing some cell work

The 'Itano Circus', eh? Hell, we usually just called those attacks cluster missiles!😂
I grew up on OVAs with ultra violence, so that's what Anime is to me.
Great video 👍

This 35yo man is considering dropping out of high school to pursue a career in martial arts.
Pure distilled OVA
I didn’t stick around. I was hoping it was a battle royale thing that I didn’t know about. 😅 Looks cool though thanks for sharing the content
Nice

Awesome video ! Oh come on , you don't like Angel Cop ?
What's the name of city pop theme song?
New thumbnail format?
8:25 was there an earthquake going on during this interview
more anime characters should randomly put on a big cat mask for fight scenes
Damm! Well now I know whose homework Parasyte copied off of here
Blows away the so called disney comedians and marvel pantomime clowns of Hollywood
If you don't want to do a vid on Angel Cop how about Dominion Tank Police?
Please do Hikaruon review
Even if it is a messy anime Itano cant be blamed on how the dub makes it even worse....As 99% of all dubs do.
Was that just a random sighting of Felix the Cat or is he somehow actually connected to the show? (The girls room at 14:03)
No its just a poster in a Room even the poster says Felix the Cat in other shots still find that one anime has raymond Brigs the Snowman Snowman painting on a wall more weird.
When’s the conclusion of the looney tunes documentary
Let's not forget how cool cursing was in cartoons or anime when we young kids in the early 90s
Let's not act too good for angel cop lol
I watched the first episode of Angel Cop out of morbid curiousity, it is worse than I thought and I already knew about the ultra violence.
It's Megazone TWO-THREE, not twenty-three.
