them reels are absolutely mustard mate do like them. love my new reels they already haver quick drag never really counted the turns on mine lol but i know it isn't many. nice tutorial mate sure loads of people will find it helpful. wont be doing this to my reels don't think i need to.
Just ordered the black tournaments. I have always fished with Shimano but wanted a oldskool work horse. I wil replace the washers to for Carbon. Greetings from the Netherlands
@@rodsup3934 i had these reels in 1996 . They have never changed. Only the price i am afraid. I find them verry expensive for the technical features you are getting. But hey, the clutch is great, they look good and in about 35 years they are stil turning mate👍🏻😁
Yeah they’re expensive for not a lot of features. The things they do they do well. I’ve put some serious distance on my casting! Can’t beat the look of them either
Another company called Custom Reel King do caps and carbontex washers. To make it fully quick drag. And carbontex are supposed to be a better drag material. They have a few choices of caps You might still not like them. I'm thinking of converting my Emblem Spod reels (original models). As they will make a great long range pike reel. I'm not too bothered about the cosmetics anyway.
Good vid, however when looking for ice washers for my Emblems I noticed on the installation video it states to remove all grease from old washers and any excess grease aswell.I am wondering if that would have made a big difference on the performance of your washers.Good luck and tight lines, just subbed.
honestly... having to install new parts in a reel to improve it would be a clear reason not to buy it for me... i had to install an additional spool washer in my daiwa fuego and that was an absolute nightmare...
It’s each to their own mate, some people will buy a brand new car and get it remapped or change parts to suit them. Making an improvement. I’m not buying gear for the newest tech, I’m buying stuff that suits me, that I like and build it to how I want it. Everyone is different. I can understand why someone doesn’t want to put time/money into something but in my eyes I see it as building a product to suit.
@@rodsup3934 and I completely understand that those reels look absolutely amazing... But especially at that price point I would be too afraid to fuck up the reel beyond repair because I was never really an intelligent guy... I had to install a tiny spool washer on my daiwa Fuego and now I'm completely paranoid that the thing might fall apart at any second... Hope those reels serve you well... I didn't intend to be an asshole with that first comment
@@liammackenzie6959 I didn’t think your was being anything mate don’t worry 👍🏼🙂. Everyone has an opinion I’m always open to suggestion. Yeah the price is high, I’ve got them and think they’re more of a reel for life tbh. I’ve found spare parts for future and I think servicing will be needed to keep them tip top 🎣👍🏼
@@rodsup3934 I'm currently running a set of daiwa gs br lt 5000 reels on my short carp rods... If I actually manage to learn carp fishing to a decent degree I'll pick up a second set of rods... Then I'll need to look for some reliable big pit reels aswell...
Brilliant reels them. Tbh mate the only time you need bigger rods is fishing massive venues. I have 3 set ups. 2x12ft and 1x 9ft. The rods that get used the most are 9ft with daiwa black widow reels. They landed the most fish.
Why fit 1940's technology; Teflon, when you can fit Smoothdrag Carbontex drag washers, made from solid Carbon? Those Ice washers are terrible and a lot worse than the felt Daiwa washers.

Thank you mate 👍🏼🎣. Yeah I’m trying to do videos that might be helpful for people.
Better sticking to the Daiwa washers or fitting Carbontex!

Great reels mate. So happy that I brought them!

You should try one full turn then see what the drag is like you might be surprised mate
I’ve seen these on 10ft rods. What’s your thoughts as I’m thinking of doing the same

Morning mate, I have actually emailed the company about this. Waiting for a reply and i will get back to you 👍🏼.
@@rodsup3934 Try cleaning grease off with IPA Isopropyl Alcohol 99.9% or try some brake disc cleaner then put back together and try drag again.
Will do, appreciate the info 🎣👍🏼
Should of wiped the greace out first mate the washers are self lubricated as they are made from teflon
Morning mate, I emailed the company about this because I wants sure but you’ve confirmed it then 👍🏼
I will take them out later and wipe clean 🎣
