I never really thought about nor realized that, till you just pointed it out. Yeah. Nice catch on that. But also, it came out just as the web was emerging. And like all the science fiction preceding it, most of the Sci Fi did not portray an internet. Because it was not even an imagined concept. Even yet.
interesting note, japan was connected to the internet the same year that akira was released. 1988

I have been using it occassionally when I have to run errands. It makes my chore feel like an extremely important thing to do. It's a beautifully done.

What this captures best is the sinking feeling and horror of the world falling down around you as you stand there isolated. And the isolation part is key because one of the most essential things about the film and manga is they depict a future without the internet. A kind of isolation we have forgotten ever existed in today’s world.
Believe me dude, it still exists. When you don't know your neighbours, don't speak the same language as the people you pass on the street (in your own country, no less) and your very existence seems to no longer be wanted, you feel it.

then GW licensed Astartes and instead of paying for a license changed the music to something super generic.

LORN is amazing and does deep, bassy stuff like this. Keygen Church also mixes electronic sounds and organs in an amazing, unique, vibrant way. It's also metal, so a bit different but very good. The guy that makes Keygen Chuch also makes Master Boot Record which is banger after banger. And of course there's the amazing Susumu Hirasawa, his 'Parnesian Circle' got used in RUINER and you can see the Akira influence all over that.
