Mined White Cliffs for 20 years. It looked very much like the pieces were planted in the bucket. One small jack hammer hit in the wall doesn't produce a bucket full of pieces- great viewing for international viewing lol !!! Keep going boys !!!
A lot of the stuff in this show is staged. Especially the finds. But I mean that's understandable because the camera team isn't with the all the time, I guess.
Yeah, these guys are best because they’re brand new to this and he mega excited about even the tiniest of opals. Like finding a diamond on a brand new survival world on Minecraft.
It's so nice but hurts to see those big ones shattered into small ones when digging. I wonder if someone devised an extraction method less aggressive to maintain larger sized stones.
@@therealEXMO All the precious metals here in Australia are located in the most arid areas and are by no means anywhere close to the country side where tourists travel.
We should be extracting these stones carefully with the best technology science can offer. Humanity’s supply of Opal is Finite and here they are being crushed to pebbles.
You know what would be so cool is a camera crew follows opal from the start the mines and then they sell it to someone and then their probably sell it (overseas most likely) and the they sell it to the jewellers and then they make it into a piece and the they sell it and it has its home IT WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING 🧐😀
Hello from Lightning Ridge by the time I mine it and sell it the buyer makes money if the stones are then on bought overseas the initial buyers price can treble or quadruple its just the way it works
How can you get around the shattering of these beautiful stones as you find and take them out of the walls? Surely there must be a way of doing it without destroying the stones. I admit that I am not knowlegable about these aspects of mining, just passing a comment.
Keep going boys ya don't get nothing from doing nothing yas will be millionaires one day as you blokes have a bit of heart and today i know there ain't many young blokes that have much or a heart to do what ya doing good on yas
with Australian opal its actually quite easy to spot if its gem quality out of the ground. the clarity of it, and those color bars are a dead giveaway.
G’day boys I’m looking to buy some grey opal and given the opportunity I would like to but some from you somewhere between 4-8 hundred but I don’t want tons of potch every parcel I have bought is mostly potch and it is driving me crazy I have too turn a profit if I ever want to mine my own claim
They would of had bigger pieces had they not massacred the vein with that jackhammer, Logical thinking went out the door when they spotted the opal vein and it cost them potentially thousands of dollars.
You can't do exact valuations for rough opal there can be potch and sand in the middle that you can see even when you shine a light through the lightbar
Yes. Opal is such a soft stone. They should be carefully slicing out one section at a time using a water lubricated saw and then carefully polish away the potch. The way they are shattering it into gravel with that jackhammer is yet another tragedy of capitalism. We can’t wait millions of years for new opals to be deposited. The only ones the world will EVER have are being crushed to bits in a frenzied desperation for $$$.
Opal is one of my favorite gems, these boys made a good find.
The next generation starting young. We will watch these boys in 20 years. Proud father there.

A hammer and chisel do it correctly no need for power tools at the point of finding Opal
Pick axe
@@LedSlinga bit much I’d say 🤣
using fire hoses. water washes away the compressed dirt ez and leaves fresh whole shiny opals behind
Buy some eye goggles with that money
It seems like a lot but sadly it’s not enough for everything ahah
That is an awesome find that opal is gorgeous
Gees boys, nice work!
If I lived in Australia i would be digging for gold and opal...they are lucky to live in a rich dirt country
Everything comes with a cost to live with 80%+ world population of insects
@Michael B ..I never been but in would really like to see the country sides and all the rich bedrock

Wouldn't that tumbler likely cause larger pieces to break into smaller ones from them all banging together?
Nah mate
They would of had bigger pieces had they not massacred the vein with that jackhammer, Logical thinking went out the door when they spotted the opal vein and it cost them potentially thousands of dollars.
Did you find the opal
Getting there.
Opals...i like it
When I was younger my nanna had a biscuit tin full of opal it would of been worth a fortune but I don't think anyone really understood the value
@Optimus Slime no idea to be honest I was about 11 at the time
Where is this?
I'd assume it's White Cliffs NSW
Dream job
My first reaction would be holy beep
