This was not a this year issue, he's had the same problem since he's been here. We've seen it before: starts strong in the first, levels off in the second, other team climbs back in it after half and Texas finds a way most times to pull it out in the 4th.
Bingo! It’s been an issue since the ‘21 OU RRR game when Caleb Williams came out.
The interior OL on the left side and at center is why the 3rd quarter woes lasted for years. Hopefully with Neto and Robertson/Hutson, the OL can run the ball when everyone knows they will.
I think loss of C.J Baxter was huge too! Wisner did an adequate job, but he’s not an all down back. The OL would probably have looked a lot better if Baxter was healthy.
@@haroldflashman4687No question. Having Baxter would have probably helped Texas make it to the National Championship. Wisner should have been on Special Teams like last year and shouldn't have been forced to be the starter. He's still undersized.
The last RPO play prior to the fumble TD, of Quinn hands the ball off instead of the quick slant, the RB would have scored easily. IDK why they didnt go back to tha, onstead a roll out and we lose the ball.
Not having a true playmaker on offense hurts. Mathew Golden was the closest thing to it. Blue had the skill set but was too inconsistent. Arch may or may not be better than Quinn, but he is a playmaker. A playmaker at QB can alleviate some of those 3rd quarter woes and definitely help the red zone offense.
Minor criticism on two great seasons. The OL through 4 years was good never dominant. How many 4th and short we did not convert. OU game, OSU game etc. inability to convert from the 1 yard line with 4 downs cost us games. Combined with too cute play calling was the problem. We lacked that mean streak at times. This manifested a lot in the 3rd QTR where we failed to execute on the offense against good defense because we just had really bad 1st downs leaving 3rd and long. Part too cute play calling and bad execution.
Why did we keep trying to run the ball behind Connor and banks, instead of Campbell and Williams? The right side has been the best run dominant side even since last season. I get Banks is an AA, but the ppl movers have been on the right side and Sark never calls it and QE never checked to it that I can recall.
You are 💯 Percent correct because I couldn't understand that myself. Sark is way to predictable. And if anybody wants proof of it just rewatch the A&M game. Wisner and Blue made all their yards on the right side.
All they need is Joy Mode!
lol we need to send them cases of it in August lol
Not that difficult guy its football sometimes these coaches like to get cute and exotic with their play calling instead of just lining up mono e mono playing mash mouth against their opponents. Even though Baxter/Clark was out Sark offense stalled.. A heavy dose of the running game should have been the focal point including more TE involvement in every play Gunner Helm was effective a mismatch for opposing defenses.
Root cause is drop in performance. The main cause I see is not being mentally prepared with killer instinct coming out of halftime. Also, not making proper adjustments at halftime. Both of these are on coach.
I do t know how sark could overlook bringing arch in on the goal line. Wish he would just come out and own his mistake
Yeah. I can only think that Sark felt Manning wasn’t ready. That in itself says a lot.
@@haroldflashman4687or was concussed by the back of the helmet hit on the earlier 4th down conversion where he lossed the football, but fortunately got the elbow down first.
@@robh_tex that was against tOSU. Why didn’t Sark play him more than just 1 play against UGA in the CG, or against ASU?
@@haroldflashman4687 not sure about ASU, but Ewers was throwing well vs UGA in the SEC title game.
We also need a power/speed back. That keeps the defense honest.
We lost our power back genius, his name is CJ Baxter. And, the casuals showed up in droves for this article. You would have thought Texas went 8-5. I can tell this is going to be a fun off-season.
@@lingerinlead80421why do we only have a single power back option. Gibson, while young, was an option in Ann Arbor and got to the end zone there. He had a couple of fumbles, but you have to let him get back on the horse after repping 3 points of contact all week.
If the OL was as good as we thought, any half decent back would have found mild success. Our backs, even the backups, are more than half decent…
Agree, that wasn't an SEC O line
The OL for some reason had a bloated reputation prior to the season. Against any team with a 1/2 decent D they were totally owned! They were decent, maybe even a good OL, but no means great, let alone elite!
On that tOSU scoop and score, Cam Williams didn’t have a clue what was happening.
Also, not adjusting to your opponent's halftime adjustments.
I agree with CJ that we should have abandoned the run at times in the 3rd qtr. In some ways, Sark is very predictable in his playcalling strat. He attacks in the first half and then tries to balance it out by just running in the 2nd half. We need a more aggressive 2nd half script. Frankly for as good a play caller Sark is, we’ve seen very little creative/innovative plays in the final 3 games of the season. This wasn’t the case last year. Very surprising.
I suspect there is no one challenging Sark on staff. I doubt that one person questions 3rd quarter situations, inside 20 situations, goal line strategy and/or play calling at all. This is why you heard so many people at the end of the season calling for an OC. On staff everyone knows about the problem but no one is specifically working on it other than the guy that calls plays and he didn't get it done. This is a problem even though we were still winning games. There is a loss or two coming if we don't figure it out. Get people working on the problem who are allowed to analyze the situation and give opinions and options to fix the problem.
Are we gonna talk about this all off season? Everyone has blames which is hilarious. I blamed Sark in a few situations especially in the playoffs but he’s gotten better every year and player execution has still been the biggest problem overall for the whole season
We need and asst OC for the 3rd qtr
Go get one.
Sark is terrible off script 🤘
I gott say the 3rd quarter in the Ohio State game was on point.
tell players to play 3Q with 4Q mentality
SEC champ Georgia because it led to the loss. ASU still pulled out the win.
You guys are over analyzing the play calling without asking why are we having to scheme open guys and rely on misdirection, deception to move the ball. It's because Sark doesn't have the road graders and power run game he enjoyed at Bama in '20.
Sark would absolutely run duo or inside zone with Najee Harris until the cows come home if the defense kept the safeties deep to defend the pass and would RPO them to death if they came up too aggressively vs the run.
My thought is Texas really missed Worthy and had no replacement to stretch the field, maybe open up the middle of the field. Not to mention losing their #1, and #2 running backs before the season even began.
Clark was not RB2... closer to RB4, but would have been nice to see how he would have fared in goal line and 4min offense situations.
What went wrong is that Texas does not have an offensive coordinator, and until then, Texas will not win a national championship.
Sark doesn’t value RB and he’s finesse
Lame!
he relied heavily on the RBs down the stretch. We don't beat aTm, Clemson without the RBs and don't score vs Ohio St without the RBs.
