Joey Elenbarger oh you bet. There were cracks all over the raw wood from UV rays, and this custom job took 2 days to complete, from raw wood, prepped, caulked, primed with 2 different primers, skim coated with lacquer putty, and 2 top coats. Yeah, I was stoked the job went really well.
Hi, the complete job starting from raw wood, disassemble hardware, setting casing nails, masking ground and everything, filling with wood filler, sanding every inch of wood, caulking, oil prime everything, (clean pump) sand, dust, second skim fill with red glazing putty, sand, second prime with xim bonding primer, mask and double coat the white sidelights and top section, back mask and spray 2 coats black and clean up..... about 13 man hours. 14 actual but I did other jobsite tasks here and there too.
That's great very good , if I was doing that, we use mostly oil Base products here Ireland probably take 3 /4 days do that with drying time and preparing filling caulking etc and painting sanding between coats to a finish
Nice job, but how do you paint the small area all the way around the perimeter where the door closes against the jamb/ seal on all but the hinge side. Do you leave the door open a little or touch it up later? Thanks, I'm doing the same job tomorrow.
With the weather stripping pulled out, that creates enough room to angle the spray in there. That part is painted with the same motion as the rest of the door but I change the angle quickly as needed.
What a great finish you have there 1st class. Quick question I have noticed on a few videos from the USA what you call putty which is different to what we class as putty as we use it for glazing but yours looks like what we call 2 pack filler which used in car body shops?
T J Roberts Decorating You're right, this product also has the Glazing Putty, or Spot Putty label on the tube depending on brand. This might have been Dynatron Brand, I threw the tube out. It's one part, designed to go on thin.
James Quant Well, it was a full job scope for this door, two different primers, had to cut excess window glaze away before masking glass, had to set nails, fill, clean, caulk everything, etc. But it was two days, and I did some other tasks around the exterior between coats as needed. Also I had to get my pump set up for oil, then cleaned well enough for 3 different acrylic products after.
James Quant Materials, Supplies, and Tools needed does add up fast if trying to work with a tight budget and you have to acquire everything. I also painted the exterior and 7 other doors (fiberglass) on this house and garage. Some white, some black, and 2 split color, so I had the masking stuff and XIM primer on hand, the Z-prime oil was left over from the exterior soffets. But yeah, it takes a bit of stuff, like Elmer's filler, caulking, sand paper, sanders, vacuum, FF spray tip, fine filters for spray gun and pump, strainer bag, resipator cartridges, prefilters, min spirits to clean oil primer, gloves, and the list goes on. Lol.
XC Painter oh ok thanks men... I always used graco proyects but graco green tips is to low pressure leaves heavy texture... I think titan tips have more pressure more finish
XC Painter definitely titan is more finish tips... graco is more for exterior jobs Black tips or blue is for cellings and exterior... but for finish definitely is better titan tips

Great job..... I been a painter for 10 years I know when someone is doing a good job..... prep is number one ☝️ spraying doors is not easy.
Thank you very much
Beautiful work there my friend...
Nice job . I like that you take the door handles off before spraying.. that's the only way to go imo.

What is the brand of the lacquer filler that you used on this project?
carlos martinez Thank you very much. That brand was dynatron but it's the same as Bondo brand glazing putty
What machine were you using for this job?
Great job looks lovely , how long did all that take from taping up preping and filling etc to finish coat and detape ??

@@XCPainter I've done a lot of spraying too, thanks for the reply. Removing the weather stripping is a good idea.

Hi,
Really good video and very detail instructions.
What is the brand of the lacquer filler that you used?
XCPainter is red lacquer putty bondo? or something else?
Red lacquer putty = one part Glazing putty. Bondo is one brand that makes it but it's not like the 2 part bondo.
The tip is 410 LP graco green color....Or 410 titan??
This was a titan 410 ff tip
