I think the recorder is more suitable for such virtuosic pieces since it's more homogenous throughout its compass.. A Corelli himself wrote his follie for recorder and dedicated a less virtuosic sonata for the traverso.. Also the response and articulation on the traverso are way slower than on the recorder..
And, the baroque recorder presents more manageable intonation - but falls short of the traverso when considering subtlety of expression for timbre and dynamics. Sure, Lucie Horsch makes a great case for the virtuosic elements of this piece, while the traverso can render it more “musically”, and isn’t that the point? (Also: “A Corelli himself wrote his follie [sic] for recorder…” No - op. 5 no. 12 ‘La Folia’ was composed for violin.)
