I once was walking with my husband in the old growth redwoods of northern California, and we came upon a tree with a man's face in it. It quite shocked me. I grabbed my husbands arm, and we stood for a while, gaping at it. Then I asked permission out loud and gave thanks to the face in the tree for sharing his home with us. Simple as it was, it was deeply profound as well.
wonderful! And that is real magic and connection with nature. It's not planned but it just happens and you really feel it. These feelings last. I often think they are the deepest and most profound communications. Thank you.
Central Illinois here. I once new someone that told me she saw an elemental. It was maybe 6" tall, made of mud. It was in her yard. She lived in Alton, which is famous for being haunted. I guess it must be magical as well.
Near where I live in far west Cornwall there is a path that leads to the coast and after a while it goes into a wood by the sea which is a small nature reserve. A few years ago whilst in the wood I noticed a grassy area in the shade of trees where one blade of grass was spinning round and round at speed. There was no wind or even a breeze. I inspected the area thinking it might be a spider spinning a web that was causing the movement but there was no spider. I actually took a video of it with my phone which I still have. A few weeks later I went back and the grass was still spinning. I have been back recently and this time no movement was witnessed. It makes me wonder if that was related to nature spirits and if anyone else has ever encountered something similar. I have also stared at a tree for some time and once or twice it was as if it shed its bark which slipped down the trunk and disappeared. It could have been an optical illusion or maybe I was witnessing the tree's spirit.
I saw one on the IOW a spinning large blade of grass that seemed to have no means to do it there was no wind went on for hours, also in my house I and the children had many things go missing they turn up again always in the same place can be missing for minutes hours or days.
@@paulukjames7799 I am not the only one then. I even cupped my hand around the grass to make sure it was not an updraft from the sea below and it carried on merrily spinning away. Weird.

I would like to know how this creatures called in Britain!? Could it be Brownie, for example? In Russia we know them as "Domovoy" - "Dom" - means "House", so "Domovoy" means "belonging to house, inhabiting the particular building". And there are even special methods for how to force Domovoy to return the thing or item he filched or dragged off. And, it works!!

Not long ago in scotland, i saw a human-sized creature who looked like he was made of leaves and wood. He was stooped and used a branch to lean on. It felt clear that he was checking out what we were doing there and then this sense of protection seemed to be present,like he was protecting.... Another day in the same place,i looked across at a slope and saw three figures together that looked like sasquatches ? My mind registered them as a family, and i maintained contact with the image for a few moments waiting for my mind to go "oh its just the shapes between the trees" but the image remained clear.. the wooden leaves man was sort of shaped in a similar way but he was entirely elemental
@@XX-pd3qr They looks trippy. Woody, barklike faces, gnarly bodies. Some look like reptiles. Some like old people. Some look like their skin is made of leaves or flowers. One just looked like a beautiful naked lady with white hair. Kind of creepy but very varied
About two years ago in the summer i was walking in the forrestry up above the village where Iive in Wales. It was a beautiful day and the track that I was following opened out on one side and i stopped to admire the beautiful view and enjoy the peace , the quiet and just nature in general. After a couple of minutes I turned away to continue on my way back down the hillside towards home and there quite unexpectedly sitting down on the track just to the right of me was a dog. He was sitting down on his stomach with his paws stretched out in front like a sphinx sideways on so I could see that he was quite large and I thought he was a Border Collie. He was all black with a chestnut/tan bib on his chest. His eyes were very dark and friendly ,his ears were up and the tips folded over and waggled as he panted. He had a big pink tongue just lolling out of his mouth also as he panted. I thought that he must have run ahead of his owners, as it is quite a hill , and as the track curved a few metres away they were lagging behind and not yet visible. I went up to him and said "hello...who are you ? What are you doing ? " and as I got closer to give him a pat he just slowly started to dissolve. It was like seeing an image pixilate into many sections but very slowly...and then he was gone...and there was just a log sitting there. I stood there stunned because that dog was 100% real. Ever since when I pass by I give Dog Log a pat and ask him how he is and if I am on another path that looks towards where he is I wave. I have told a few people and the majority are very sceptical about what i saw. It was daytime,glorious weather and neither mushrooms nor alchohol were involved and I am positive I met a very friendly and very real black dog albeit briefly.And I would love to have the honour to meet him again.

Love this podcast. We have fae / elemental encounters in Northern Arizona, USA as well. We have Juniper and other trees in the area and lots of First People lived and live there.
I agree Jo nature is very beautiful if we open our minds to it. A few years ago I was completely absorbed in the study of mushroom morphology that led me deeper into their beautiful shapes and colours and other similar plants such as molds, yeast, mildews and truffles. They all seem to have that gentle fairytale magic dust feelings attached to them. Interestingly some well respected paranormal investigators linked molds or mildews to paranormal activity in homes. Nature has a deep effect on us biologically and emotionally. It's not just the equinox but sunset is also excepted to cause melancholic feelings in the medical field. Paul shared some interesting experiences of teleportation. It also happened to me in the early 1990's just before I saw a dwarf that walked out of my cupboard. He seemed to be wearing a Viking helmet with horns as though it was no big deal. I felt intense energy and experienced teleportation of an object on the shelf just before I saw him. On the topic of shape shifting I also experienced a humanoid change its shape on my wall. Instantly things started happening to others in the house too. Nice new look Jo. I like both styles but If I had to pick one I would choose the previous look because I have a similar appearance. Its like fairytale magic dust. People tell me they like it a lot. It's special.
I have recently started listening to your podcasts in my attempts to connect with animist world views in southern Africa (by engaging with less foreign, western experiences). I have found it very useful and appreciate the various guests who have shared their experiences and the sensitive, affirming manner Jo engages with them. I am struck by listening to guests, such as Paul, who come from places such as Canada and US, that there doesn't seem to be an explicit engagement with the question (or" problem") of being a descendent of colonizing settlers who have come into a space with indigenous people who had a very special relationship with nature and associated spirits, ancestors and forces, but who were dispossessed of the forests and lands that they are engaging with. I do not know if you have discussed this elsewhere on the podcast or various platforms, and it is not a criticism as I realize located in the UK these questions of colonial dispossession and the violence to First Peoples and their landscapes is not a questions you are forced to confront in your relationship with nature and landscapes. I should love to hear if Paul has engaged with Native American lore of landscapes and how he places himself in relation to this as, clearly, having plenty of settler colonial ancestry. I ask this as these are questions I struggle with, power, injustice and genocide are a key part of the New World and colonial Africa. For me, engaging with a worldview that makes space for these beliefs and experiences can be part of decolonial practice and ontological justice. But. the world of spirits, fairies and nature does not lie outside of this historical and contemporary nexus.

It is, and your work is fascinating. Currently my exploration of these issues is part of historical doctoral research of water & landscape in a particular place, home once to people dispossessed by colonialism, slavery and apartheid -all of which is part of the landscape story and memory. In Africa the spirits of the dead, unborn and nature are a key part of these landscapes and our relationship to them. Honouring ancestral ownership and dwelling in landscapes is a central part of knowing places. These ideas are a living part of people's lives here, and engaging with it becomes more than a question of lore, but also deeper questions of historical justice and a deepest respect and openess to the myriad voices of the land.

Yes, you are right, thank you for reminding me, especially in the English colony of Ireland! It's interesting that Ireland remains a key British site of fairy sightings. Interesting to think how these traumas and memories remain in landscape, and the healing that certain landscapes can bring too. The suppression and belittling of the histories of fairies here can also be seen as part of the landscape and cultural violence enacted on Ireland, along with our ongoing capitalist exploitative relationship with the natural and human world. The origins of the darkness and danger of worlds of magic and enchantment are surely multiple, and not unrelated to human histories. Likewise, contemporary beliefs in supernatural powers is not all benign, for instance, ideas related to witch craft in Africa can cause great suffering on multiple levels. But I'm probably off topic, thanks for reply.

I'm just guessing here but I would think both keeping the Fae away or drawing them in would be a more human trait. I would think dogs are still too directly connected with nature to 'interfere' in either a positive or negative direction, but if I had to choose one over the other I would think they would help draw them in since they increase your own direct connection with nature. Do you keep them on a leash the whole time or do you allow them a period of free roaming if that is safe?
Yes, simply set a clear intention that you are open but you are protected (visualise white or blue light around you). You can follow that up with a material offering of home made cake, butter/honey or milk but an offering from your heart: words or a song work just as well if not better. Then use rosemary or anything else (sage? - whatever you. like to us) for protection.
How do you make an offering to show your appreciation? I live near a 300 plus year-old oak and I would like to show my appreciation but I don't know how.
Go with good intentions and leave something organic, preferably that you’ve made yourself. Or simply sit beneath it with your back against the trunk) and put your hands on the earth and put your love and good wishes for that place into the earth/roots. Stay there at least 20 mins. Much longer if you can. Connect in with your heart. If it feels strange at first just get over that and see what you feel when you do that. Physical offerings appreciated: cake, butter, milk, honey. Maybe a wild flower (don’t pick lots, just one picked with good intentions and imbued with your wishes). Ensure it is left with respect and honour and if it is something meaningful and of value to you (don’t leave your leftovers). Trust your instincts and intuition.
Forgot to mention singing or music! That is always a welcome offering...especially if it is your own creation. AND of course collecting litter is a much called for offering. Just the other day I collected St John's Wort and all I had was water with me, which I offered to the plant but my attention was drawn to some rubbish in the park and I have vowed to return this week for an hour or so of litter picking.
Fairies and even Devas, gods can be negative unless an Enlightend one has tamed them or made them take an oath. Tibet has many such beings. Some are still not tamed😂 Guru Rinpoche and others tamed many not all.
Nyen are the tree spirits are sometimes are shape shifters. ( Trulpo or Trulmos ) Nyen are also in rocks soil and must not be disturbed. There are many Shape changers that are of the God class
Maybe the nature Spirit came to him as the cat as they couldn't stay due to the work the new owners are doing.. it found a kind and friendly person / place to move to..

I live in the forest and I’ve seen glowing gold & green radiant orbs in the yard. But when I got security cameras I saw just how busy the living room is with orbs and light snakes. Amount other beings. Lately they admit a high pitched audible sound that is alarming. Our dog gets upset by something invisible to me. He barks wildly as if he’s protecting us. I’m here to learn & share.
Regarding going with the flow, nature just is and not fearing nature. I felt like going to sleep among the heather in western Norway, on bare rock in the sun. If i did that in north America a cougar could wake me up and if i did that in Tasmania. A jumping jack ant could bite me and i could die in 4 min. And regarding the intro. The only fairy ive seen is a Tinkerbell fairy when i was 7 waiting for the toothfairy. Identical to Tinkerbell. Another thing is a lighter went missing while i was using the fireplace. I found it in a room in the fireplace i had to open. It was placed there. And maybe the fireplace would have exploded if i was arrogant and not looked at a place it couldnt have got on its own. Once i saw 9 red lights flying in the sky. UFOs. A man looked at me like i was crazy for looking at the sky. But too arrogant to turn around and look himself.
It's actually a traditional offering left for the fairies, particularly by indigenous cultures. The point is that it was (and still is!) a valuable offering that was a luxury item. It is of course, also a plant. If you can, leave non-additive tobacco. As a guide, leave offerings that are organic and even better if you have made them/grown them yourself. Give something that is already of great value to you. for eg. if leaving a fairy cake that you've made (don't leave the wrapper) offer them the largest or nicest looking one. ie. don't offer things that you didn't want anyway as that's offensive (in any situation, let alone when relating to the Fae).
@@themodernfairysightingspod8421 Thanks for the reply. I often see fruit left at the foot of the tallest stone in a circle near me. I don't know if that would be for the nature spirits or the Genius Loci . Interestingly I never see rotten fruit there so someone or something must take it.
Actually it is very common as a Sasquatch offering in that area. His cave encounter seemed very similar in many aspects to Bigfoot encounters, e.g waving trees, feeling of dread, crashing through brush, being told to leave, quarries, sound of footsteps... the list goes on! But then many of these matters are also mentioned in Fairy encounters.. kind of leads to the emerging common conclusion that the Unseen Realm are all largely the same thing

The tale of around the cave, with shaking trees, feelings of dread, etc. sounds just like Sasquatch!
New subscriber and enjoying your channel very much! I wonder do you cover off ways to be open to Fae/nature energies while staying protected? Also I walk often with my little dogs and I sometimes wonder if they keep Fae away or draw them in? Thank you for your passion and energy to talk about these subjects!
I'm just guessing here but I would think both keeping the Fae away or drawing them in would be a more human trait. I would think dogs are still too directly connected with nature to 'interfere' in either a positive or negative direction, but if I had to choose one over the other I would think they would help draw them in since they increase your own direct connection with nature. Do you keep them on a leash the whole time or do you allow them a period of free roaming if that is safe?
Yes, simply set a clear intention that you are open but you are protected (visualise white or blue light around you). You can follow that up with a material offering of home made cake, butter/honey or milk but an offering from your heart: words or a song work just as well if not better. Then use rosemary or anything else (sage? - whatever you. like to us) for protection.
How do you make an offering to show your appreciation? I live near a 300 plus year-old oak and I would like to show my appreciation but I don't know how.
Go with good intentions and leave something organic, preferably that you’ve made yourself. Or simply sit beneath it with your back against the trunk) and put your hands on the earth and put your love and good wishes for that place into the earth/roots. Stay there at least 20 mins. Much longer if you can. Connect in with your heart. If it feels strange at first just get over that and see what you feel when you do that.
Physical offerings appreciated: cake, butter, milk, honey. Maybe a wild flower (don’t pick lots, just one picked with good intentions and imbued with your wishes).
Ensure it is left with respect and honour and if it is something meaningful and of value to you (don’t leave your leftovers). Trust your instincts and intuition.

Forgot to mention singing or music! That is always a welcome offering...especially if it is your own creation.
AND of course collecting litter is a much called for offering. Just the other day I collected St John's Wort and all I had was water with me, which I offered to the plant but my attention was drawn to some rubbish in the park and I have vowed to return this week for an hour or so of litter picking.
I like the litter suggestion because it’s in a city park.

Fairies and even Devas, gods can be negative unless an Enlightend one has tamed them or made them take an oath. Tibet has many such beings. Some are still not tamed😂 Guru Rinpoche and others tamed many not all.

Nyen are the tree spirits are sometimes are shape shifters. ( Trulpo or Trulmos ) Nyen are also in rocks soil and must not be disturbed. There are many Shape changers that are of the God class

A cougar would just catch you if you hadn't been looking out for one, they're excellent prey-stalkers. so I doubt it was a cougar you heard.
Maybe the nature Spirit came to him as the cat as they couldn't stay due to the work the new owners are doing.. it found a kind and friendly person / place to move to..
You have to ask permission from to owners of place and make an offering of a vegetarian kind

I live in the forest and I’ve seen glowing gold & green radiant orbs in the yard. But when I got security cameras I saw just how busy the living room is with orbs and light snakes. Amount other beings. Lately they admit a high pitched audible sound that is alarming. Our dog gets upset by something invisible to me. He barks wildly as if he’s protecting us. I’m here to learn & share.

Regarding going with the flow, nature just is and not fearing nature. I felt like going to sleep among the heather in western Norway, on bare rock in the sun. If i did that in north America a cougar could wake me up and if i did that in Tasmania. A jumping jack ant could bite me and i could die in 4 min. And regarding the intro. The only fairy ive seen is a Tinkerbell fairy when i was 7 waiting for the toothfairy. Identical to Tinkerbell. Another thing is a lighter went missing while i was using the fireplace. I found it in a room in the fireplace i had to open. It was placed there. And maybe the fireplace would have exploded if i was arrogant and not looked at a place it couldnt have got on its own. Once i saw 9 red lights flying in the sky. UFOs. A man looked at me like i was crazy for looking at the sky. But too arrogant to turn around and look himself.
Why would he leave an offering of tobacco? That does not seem the sort of gift that nature spirits would welcome.
It's actually a traditional offering left for the fairies, particularly by indigenous cultures. The point is that it was (and still is!) a valuable offering that was a luxury item. It is of course, also a plant. If you can, leave non-additive tobacco.
As a guide, leave offerings that are organic and even better if you have made them/grown them yourself. Give something that is already of great value to you. for eg. if leaving a fairy cake that you've made (don't leave the wrapper) offer them the largest or nicest looking one. ie. don't offer things that you didn't want anyway as that's offensive (in any situation, let alone when relating to the Fae).
@@themodernfairysightingspod8421 Thanks for the reply. I often see fruit left at the foot of the tallest stone in a circle near me. I don't know if that would be for the nature spirits or the Genius Loci . Interestingly I never see rotten fruit there so someone or something must take it.
Actually it is very common as a Sasquatch offering in that area. His cave encounter seemed very similar in many aspects to Bigfoot encounters, e.g waving trees, feeling of dread, crashing through brush, being told to leave, quarries, sound of footsteps... the list goes on! But then many of these matters are also mentioned in Fairy encounters.. kind of leads to the emerging common conclusion that the Unseen Realm are all largely the same thing
First of all real FREE markets, aka capitalism, do not currently exist. Secondly, if you don't understand economics - please don't talk about what is currently considered "capitalism." The guest is great I just get a little spun when people blame the wrong things.
