The next one should be about a virus that infects the mothership and all the VIP bots. That way the villain fits the device theme, and pushes Astro bot through a much more intense adventure fighting the strongest of VIP bots to free them from the virus. Idk but that sounds like a perfect game idea for this series
I got the impression that the message was "Software designers work better when they work WITH the hardware people instead of just working around the hardware."
Or if they _want_ to work with the hardware. The number of games where clearly someone at Nintendo management told the devs to shoehorn their latest controller's gimmick into the game...
@@madnessarcade7447 I'm not talking about limited GPU cycles, I'm talking about silly motion controls and other gimmicks they've introduced over the years. Remember the Mario game where you'd jump by shaking the Wiimote? That kinda thing.
I find it really respectable that they chose to make sure the game ended, unlike so many modern games and make it like an enjoyable, manageable experience. In the age of endless compulsion-based skinner-box gaming, mobile games and "play a little and come back tomorrow forever" that's really refreshing.
This game gives out plenty of joy. The feeling that we need more of these days in gaming. Now more than ever. If you enjoy playing platformers or even have a slight knowledge of PlayStation history, you NEED to play this.
@@ACEtheGOAT1011because they are both tightly focused, brilliantly made, cream-of-the-crop 3D platformers with an emphasis on the fundamentals. They both incorporated gimmicks based on new hardware features, but those gimmicks (mostly) didn’t feel forced and were actually fun to use. They are both set in space. They both have a mix of larger, main story levels that are easier and have a grand presentation, and smaller, optional challenge levels for the more skilled players. There’s also very similar DNA in the level design approach itself, but that would take an essay to really explain. Also, Astro’s elephant backpack powerup is plainly just straight an iteration on Mario’s Cloud Suit.
It almost sounds like that approach to game design, something Nintendo is known, actually has merit. Ie pick a feature and refine refine refine and then build up from there. Happy to see the team at Sony bask in their success. This game was clearly a labor of love and focused hardwork.
i have never wanted a ps5, ive always been a nintendo guy, but if i could, id buy one just for Astro, which says a lot because ive only seen small snippets of gameplay, nothing major.
I've had all the playstations until I purchased a switch and returned to Nintendo since the SNES. I wasn't planning on buying a ps5 until I watch this video
@@TonyTheTGR That's the price for the PS5 pro that isn't even out yet. You shouldn't buy a whole console for a single game anyway but you could easily find a used PS5 console for 350$ these days.
@@TonyTheTGR You wouldn't have to pay $700 anyway, it's not like you're getting it on a PS5 Pro or anything. At least I hope not, right? Never buy a PS5 Pro. Horrible idea.
Astro Bot is an amazing gamer but it is not at the level of the greats. The movement dynamics are not anywhere near the level of a 3D Mario game. In fact, Astro Bot feels like a more restrictive Super Mario Sunshine with it's float jump. However that game to this day is criticized for having less movement options than Mario 64 and Astro Bot seems to not be getting dinged for it. This game has no where near the combat dynamics of a Kirby game where you have dodges, counters, parry's, various abilities with fighting game like move sets. Moreover the "animal friends" in Astro Bot are locked to specific stages so you cannot be creative in their usage. What I am saying in Astro Bot is great but it still have a way to go before it "beats Nintendo at it's own game." Astro is a great experience none the less just too restrictive to get the masterpiece praise just yet.
Agreed. It's a great game, I'm enjoying it a lot. But people saying it's beating Nintendo at their own game, better than Mario? They're delusional. I wouldn't even give it game of the year. Second place, perhaps. But Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth beats it.
Astro Bot: The IP that makes me want Sony hardware I otherwise have no interest in whatsoever. Seriously, all three of those games (PS4VR, PS5 pack-in, and this one) look so freaking amazing... but I'm not spending the $80 needed for VR, let alone the hundreds for the other two. Funny enough, there used to be one other reason for a PS5... but then Ratchet and Clank's latest outing showed up on Steam.
It’s great, it’s good fun, I don’t regret buying it. But I think maybe a bit overhyped, you finish it in a weekend or two and probably never ever go back to it. It’s not that much better than the free Astros playroom. Don’t get me wrong, really nice game but not sure most will even remember it come game of the year awards.

The moral of the story:
The tried and true still works; ask any mascot character!
We need our mascot platformers back. The "cinematic games only" approach is imploding.

Idk why people are calling this game this, it doesn't share anything with Mario galaxy

I really wish I could afford a PS5. I already loved Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.
I read that Sony is going to start selling refurbished PS5s for $400. I hope that helps at least a little bit

Brilliant research.
I'm learning things I didn't knew about Team Asobi.
Be thankful whenever a dev realizes that they don't need to pad for time. If we really, really like the game, then we'll replay it over and over

Astro Bot praise earned, absolutely. But IMO Rescue Mission an even greater triumph and more magical gaming experience.
We were well on our way to the crushingly difficult Wukong. Then this came out. We haven't gone back to Wukong.

I haven't had this much fun with a 3D platformer since Super Mario 64

I honestly only played each Astro bot that was free for like an hour and never again just to try out the new tech of the system.
This was a really nice video to watch.

Astro Bot or FF7 Rebirth for GOTY.
😯😯😯
Because sonyponies finally have one (1) real game on the ps5.
I love that Sony Ponies is the name people have come up with to describe Sony shills, that's so funny. 😂
They made a boring linear and extremely easy platform. Comparable with Mario 3D world. It just look better. But still as bad.
I have never wanted to buy a playstation until I saw this game. I was like: "Why isn't this Nintendo??? Oh... Physics processing power. :-|"
they coppied Nintendo, and Hall Laboratory, prove me wrong.
It's not that good guys.
Play Mario Wonder instead. The same people who are praising Astro Bot now slept on the real GOTY 2023.
rebirth is my game of the generation but astro bot was 14 hours of pure bliss for me i love it
