Without the bar the towers make the steering softer on initial input . The connection bar making the suspension a square structure removes the spongy feeling, so you're inputs fell rigid and in better increments . I saw it on engineering explained . the only downside is lateral force will feel more predominant . I E ruts on the highway will pull you harder side to side. As the tire has less rotational freedom .
As far as feeling as though you have more grip... I think what's happening is, because of the responsiveness in the front of the suspension now, and that predictability you mentioned, you can more accurately feel about where the tires will lose grip, which gives you the confidence to corner faster... meaning that it's partially placebo, but placebo fed by the sense of feel in the car. However stiffening the front of the car with a strut bar does reduce chassis roll, and the added force used to keep things from flexing may be changing the contact patch of the tire, but I don't think that would be significant enough to improve overall grip, more so just the feel of the tires/body roll.
Hi there I am from RECIFE in Brazil South America, would like to say , what great videos you own, I have a bmw 2018, and I love it, but it sure as hell don’t sound like your c63, keep up the good work, the music that you use for your videos are so soothing and nice to hear..
Thank you so much man!! And congrats on your sweet car btw!!! There are many more videos to come regarding the C63, in fact I am meeting someone about that this weekend :) I had to pause a bit because of my new job, but things will start up again soon!
Just had one installed on my C300 and the transformation in handling is off the charts. No more flex and handling has me zipping through corners. I'm rather disappointed Mercedes produced a car that handles so poorly. The strut bar gives me the handling that Mercedes should have given me
I can agree with that (old FWD 1998 Ford Escort MK 7) - for shits and giggles I added a front / rear strutbar and wishbone strutbars (all Aluminium, less weight and less stiff than the cheaper steel version). Are yours aluminium or steel? Though in my case I doubt it changed grip, but the directness on turn in and during cornering is way more precise. Also on stronger compression the car feels stiffer with regards to the front suspension. I have my doubts the rear strut bar does much because the rear is not an independent suspension, but eh screw it, car is ~21 years old, rusty already so every bit of stability helps, lol :D
Thank you for the reply and congrats on the sweet ride!! Love the old Escort! Mine are aluminium, and the W204 chassis definitely can need any help it can get to reduce flex. It´s not the most stable platform unfortunately :) I think the maximum grip probably did not change in my case either and it was just placebo.
@@TheExtraMile Aww crap. LOL I mistyped the year (fixed the comment already) - meant the 1998 front-wheel drive Escort. Not the really old ones with rear wheel drive. I read your answer and was like "My car? Sweet ride? wut are you smokin?" until i noticed I had a typo in the year, sorry for getting you all exicted.
I noticed that while you were in the Garage, you were Mild Mannered Alex - but as soon as you hit the road, you turned into :- STRUT-BAR MAN!!! hahahaha P.S. By the way - did you notice Alex, that your BACK-SEAT was missing ;D
Yeah my car has a 4 link with a live axle and no upper tower bar. You think you'rs steps out of line lol . But I have a fully boxed in front suspension. And I am on coil-overs . I just need the upper in the trunk.
It was (and still is) quite interesting to feel how the car changed with the strut bars. Did not quite expect that much change! Getting the light weight seats today!!
Dependant on spring rates, it can make the car a real handfull on uneven surfaces. When there is a slight camber the car will tramline. On my track car its great on a circuit but can be a challenge on country roads.
Interesting, I kind of noticed the opposite effect in that it seems more stable over uneven surfaces. But I guess that can vary depending on the car´s setup. Will take the car out for its first trackday on May first and I can´t wait!!! :)
silversleeper484 3 days ago Hello Alex, AWESOME TUTORIAL. Can you please tell me which Sturt Bars you purchased? For example the front Vivid Racing? And Rear cdmmotorsports.com/product/mercedes-amg-c63-c300-c350-w204-e-coupe-w207-rear-strut-tower-brace-bar/ or Renntech? Thanks Tim Oh, I forgot Alex can you please give me the link to where you bought the rear strut/shock tower bar? The only one I can find besides the Renntech is the white one from Malaysia and your looks much better
Hey there! For some reason I only found the front strut bar in the manufacturer’s online shop: www.wiechers-sport.de/shop/dom-fahrwerkstreben/produkte/df-mercedes-baureihe-204-ab-bj-03-2007-domstrebe-alu-racingline-vorne-oben-detail But I did find the one for the rear here: www.tunershop.de/shop/wiechers-fahrwerkstrebe-alu-racingline-carbon-look-298019c-fuer-mercedes-c63-amg-hinten.html Although it is the carbon covered one, otherwise it’s the same. I hope you find one, it’s a great addition to the car :)
@@TheExtraMile Dude I just found out that these guys also have a store here in the USA. That is Awesome. Because when I do a google search for Strut bars for my 2013 C63 this company does not come up in the Search. Only Vivid Racing and the ones from Malaysia Thanks for the Link :) (Y)
Only a true petrolhead will ever say: "Roads are straight, unfortunately"

Very good explanation Gopher! Lateral forces are indeed more immediate and rougher. It feels like the suspension is actually stiffer than before.
Strut bar to chassis mid corner: „weird flex but ok“
Just installed one in my c350. I felt like the chassis was already stiff but not it's even better. Highly recommended and very noticeable difference.

Just ordered my Renntech rear strut brace!! My front Renntech brace made a huge improvement
Good choice Evan! It really does make a huge difference, makes the car feel more composed!

Hey Alex, haven't seen a question/response regarding head bolts. Have you had an issue with yours, or have you swapped them out for the new version?

Great video, thanks mate!
Glad you liked it! :)
Don't tell the CIG ship designers about those struts!
Were is the rear seats of your car
Removed because of weight saving.

Thank you do much Alex for these videos. I'm very much looking to do this to a CLA 45 AMG that I'm in the market for. 🙏😄
