These people are nuts with this stuff. 3d Printing Nerd said it took 17kg to make his. At $16 a spool that is $272, I got a rolling Black & Decker tool box with 3 chests stacked for $112. Way less work, money and time. I love 3d printing, but only things I can't easily obtain for cheaper and more conveniently. Fantasy design does this with everything. I always think that's so cool, go back it, then cancel it after I think it through.
Just so you know, he posted a clarification video saying that while he did print 17kg worth of stuff, it was just based off the list of all the parts given to him which for some reason was way too much stuff and the actual amount for what he used for the build was about 7.5kg. Now, that is still a decent amount but it at least puts it in a more reasonable price range for something people might consider if they want to build out a fully modular type thing or enjoy having it as a project/neat case to build. I don't think anyone will be saving money compared to an off the shelf one, but it at least can put it in a reasonable range for something if you prefer to have a cool themed look or whatever.
Yea I just bought the plans for this 6 months out and regretting it. Its going to take forever just to print a mini case. It also takes a small fortune in screws and nuts. I could make one of these out of a sheet a plywood which is what I should have done.
It's pretty cool. I just can't see myself ever buying into it. It's such a massive project to print it that I would have to take literal weeks on my single machine to print it and it takes a lot of filament by the looks of it, taking away print time and filament from other projects I want to work on. For storing miniatures, I just feel there are cheaper and more efficient ways of achieving that, no matter how cool it may look.
I agree, this looks aimed at wargamers that need a case to carry armies around, i can see the advantage in the slot modularity as minis nowadays have such dynamic and detailed poses. Still, it's something that can be still be achieved with less effort when you don't own this many printers.
Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. Zack from Void Star Labs said: "More printers print prints for printing printers than printers print prints for projects." And I feel this is the same thing. It's a project, sure, but it's printing a tool for your hobby that does nothing for your hobby that can't be achieved in far more reasonable methods and keeps you from potentially working on your actual hobby. The few who will REALLY get a LOT of use out of this are few and far between or have a print farm. Not to say it isn't absolutely fantastic and a genius product, but the time, cost, and results don't seem worth it.
@@Volair Not sure you could even really call it a genius product. There are alternatives to this that are far cheaper dollar wise and time investment wise that this is just a massive dollar, material, and time sink that doesn't make any sense. Even with a print farm of sorts or just multiple FDM printers it still means you've spent over a grand just to have a case that you could build yourself for a fraction of the cost. Not to mention things like the Jucoci case which can store a pretty decent amount of miniatures in slide shelves for around $130.
How many KG of filament did you use to print that thing? I'm concerned the cost of printing one is far more expensive than off the shelf options that are injection molded and don't have all of the joints that could crack.
Very cool case, but it would take me a month to print one! And it seems like that's a lot of filament and could get pretty pricey pretty quick. You're gonna want to add some sort of padding if you plan to use one of these to transport delicate models, but that shouldn't be that difficult. I don't print miniatures, so don't really need this, but I like seeing the innovative design and the techniques they've used to make large panels printable on small printers. I could see toolboxes using this sort of design . . .
I wish these guys would actually include relevant info like, you know, how much filament it actually used so we can accurately judge if the file purchase is worth it since it costs money to print as well. If it costs $200 in filament, then you're better off just buying one from a local store.
A few real issues i see with this. 1) a drop would be devestating. Even with magnets minis would break. 2) the full cost of printing would be astronomical compared to buying other options isnt saving me enough to swap over. 3) the time for printing is somewhat nuts. Its a really cool idea, but im very skeptical.
Maybe i missed it but how much does the completed assembled case weigh? That is something that would drastically change my opinion on whether this is worth it or not
I have purchased a really nice carrying case for $120 that's served me well for a few years now. Why should I spend more on the files and filament instead of just buying another case?
Cool idea, but with that amount of filament and energy used, wouldn’t it be just as expensive as a Peli Case or two where your models sit nicely in soft foam?
THe key thing is they are completely re-configurable so even if you change what you need to carry, It's easy to re-adjust it. ALso if part of it breaks, You can just re-print the broken or damaged part to replace, rather then having to replace the whole case.
You mention Nuts, bolts, magnets and metal pins in the video, could you share what you used in regard to that hardware for better direction in what I should get in preparation of printing this.
Great idea but there ain't no way I'm printing 100+ parts for a carrying case. Maybe if I had a print farm like you but as a person with 1 P1P I'd rather print 100 different things in that same time.
I’m backing this. It amazing for in home storage. But if you were to take it somewhere how well would the handle handle being handled? Lol, can you actually print it in basic PLA or do we have to beef it up with best material and perfect adhesion?
This is a really cool design, although I do worry a bit about the weight of it. Carrying it out to the game store could be exhausting. Looks neat though.
Nice video, I enjoyed seeing how it was designed and assembled. Would have liked to see you carry it by the handle and comment on that stability. The Omni cases are cool but are surprisingly heavy.

The Omni Display Case Felt like a scam for a long time, they took over 400k usd and delivered half baked files while offering little to no support and minimal communication are you sure you should be supporting another project by them?
Huh? I’m in the Omni FB group & see tons of people posting their Omni display builds Also, I’m literally showing printing & assembling the thing If I felt it was a scam I wouldn’t have shown it off
@@UncleJessy ok i’ll edit the comment to say that it felt like a scam for a long time - communication was very poor throughout - after the campaign was successful we were ghosted for a long time on what was happening with the files - the facebook group existed for ages with zero posts from the FantasyDesign team to the point where some backers had to make our own group to share designs and help each other - the initially released files were riddled with errors - the hardware lists were not very helpful for anyone outside the US - 2.5kg of filament for a smallish display PLUS hardware is a joke - so many printing hours for what you get, seemed very unrefined - there was a while where the company was selling the design under multiple different names for the product and the company behind it (FantasyDeisgns, Fableforgegaming, OmniDisplay, Omni Case, Printable Accessories) - a lot of the imagery up to file delivery was mostly renders, they had the same few physical prints shown and then a bunch of renders in the promotional material which was really worriying as a backer throughout as to how achievable a full print of these cases was. you are correct in that there are a bunch of successful builds on the facebook group but it’s not indicative of the funding received and support given by the creator
I think the issue with this is that the average Joe doesn't have multiple printers to run all of these files... it ould literally take weeks of on and off printing...
6-7Kg for the Gothic Space case means 4-5 for a case with no fancy layout, which makes around 60$ including bolts etc. A GSW army transport bag in MDF costs 50$ and it is fragile, what are you guys complaining about?!?! Backed
What a waste of time, money and effort. You can buy a far superior solution for less. Unless it's printed in ABS you know it's going to fail at the handle or hinges at some point. And don't even think about dropping it...
Huh? how so? If it's something I'm interested in printing / displaying / using for shows/conventions etc. People are going to print what they want to print. The entire point of 3D Printers is to make fun stuff you're into.
@@UncleJessy I get what you're saying Jessy. I just think we should be using this tech to make the world better. Reduce our carbon footprint by manufacturing local. @@UncleJessy ok i’ll edit the comment to say that it felt like a scam for a long time
- communication was very poor throughout
- after the campaign was successful we were ghosted for a long time on what was happening with the files
- the facebook group existed for ages with zero posts from the FantasyDesign team to the point where some backers had to make our own group to share designs and help each other
- the initially released files were riddled with errors
- the hardware lists were not very helpful for anyone outside the US
- 2.5kg of filament for a smallish display PLUS hardware is a joke
- so many printing hours for what you get, seemed very unrefined
- there was a while where the company was selling the design under multiple different names for the product and the company behind it (FantasyDeisgns, Fableforgegaming, OmniDisplay, Omni Case, Printable Accessories)
- a lot of the imagery up to file delivery was mostly renders, they had the same few physical prints shown and then a bunch of renders in the promotional material which was really worriying as a backer throughout as to how achievable a full print of these cases was.
you are correct in that there are a bunch of successful builds on the facebook group but it’s not indicative of the funding received and support given by the creator
I think the issue with this is that the average Joe doesn't have multiple printers to run all of these files... it ould literally take weeks of on and off printing...
Day two of asking for box dragon
6-7Kg for the Gothic Space case means 4-5 for a case with no fancy layout, which makes around 60$ including bolts etc. A GSW army transport bag in MDF costs 50$ and it is fragile, what are you guys complaining about?!?! Backed
Why Kickstarter? I don't get it. Just sell the dam thing.
Kickstarter really helps with getting new eyes on the product, expanding the potential customer base.
I love 3d printing since 5 Years but this case ist ttttooooo much, sry
What a waste of time, money and effort. You can buy a far superior solution for less. Unless it's printed in ABS you know it's going to fail at the handle or hinges at some point. And don't even think about dropping it...
I said it on Joel's video. This is a shameful waste of plastic.. Just saying.
Huh?
I'm afraid stuff like this makes us look bad which makes it harder to justify to the world.
Not mad or disgusted, just trying to do my part.
i got on there display case. whiten 12 min of this going line i had joined this as hey why not. that said dam how the hell do your parts fit together so easily. always got little sanding and such to do on the omni display case and the 3d printed table as well. love to know what to tweak for better prints that just work.
Already backed. Wish I had 20 printers to print this stuff on though! Wish they would include links to buy the hardware in BULK rather than just a couple as once you start printing you are gonna want to keep going lol
How much filament did this take?
I used a bunch of partial rolls - maybe 4-6 rolls
