    Started this method today with my stubborn 15mo old Rottie. I noticed a change in the first 15 minutes. He's not a unicorn yet, more like a Clysdale lol. Thanks Larry!

    This is so exciting; I've been dying to see you work with a dobie! They are so loving, handsome, and intelligent. By far my favorite breed. The change in his demeanor just in 16 minutes is so amazing. I would love to see more work with him. I couldn't stop smiling watching this handsome boy.

    You are probably the best trainer I have seen on here this is exactly how I had to train my Doberman. She is high anxiety as well so I had to work her daily and give her jobs around the house to get her to stop whining

      I only used verbal marker and used drive training with tug work on the rope

    I love it. It takes a lot of work. I had a Doberman and I worked with him constantly. I felt like it was my responsibility to raise a good canine citizen. He was absolutely amazing. By the time I took him to professional training, which was for me really, he was level 2 level 3. We got compliments all the time and it made me proud that I was able to do so well with him.
    I agree with your philosophy. You have to put in the time. It's only a joy to have a pet if you take on the responsibility of being a good owner and doing this work.

      GSDmom B I didn’t ask for anyone’s input on the decisions I make for my dog. I’ve worked with a trainer and my dog already knows basic obedience, but I want to enhance his skills. To use an ecollar is my decision and if you don’t like the use of one, I’m not sure why you’re watching Larry’s videos. Thanks for your concern 👍🏼

      I just adopted a GSD and hes about 2. He has basic obedience skills but he is aggressive towards other dogs. I purchased one of these to help calm his aggression and teach him to focus on me in order to avoid his stress. How does that make me a failed owner? The dog came to me like that.

      You should not be putting an e-collar on an 11 week old puppy. Puppies naturally bite. It’s all part of being a puppy and learning. Don’t use an e-collar at such a young age, it’s cruel and pointless. You will just mess your dog up.

    bruno my rottweiler has separation anxiety! how can we fix that?

    • @buildthings79
      @buildthings79 5 лет назад +4

      Its one of the " kryptonites" of a Rotty. Ive owned two and its in their nature. Its not so much anxiety but more worrying about what will happen to YOU if he is not there to protect you. They have an huge instinct to protect the pack . My wife leaves or I leave and ours waits behind the door the whole time and looks out the window at every noise. My wifes first Rottweiler was in the back seat of her mustang back in the nineties when she got out at a junkyard and the yard dog ( mastiff) ran up and attacked her and clamped onto her bare leg. Her Rotty " Diablos " broke through the car window and grab this mastiff by the neck and choked it out. It released her then she had to pull him off the mastiff because by this time 3 angry men where coming towards him with shovels and sticks. She lost alot of blood and had to go to the hospital but her Rotty saved her life. He had never been trained before but instinctively knew she was at risk.
      Some times when I horse around with my wife and tickle and play slap her behind and he sees this he comes running full speed and grabs me by the arm but just enough to immobilize me and doesnt bite down. You can tell he is torn by should I bite my master or should I ignore it so he comprises and restricts me from touching her anymore.

      buildthings79 This is very very very true I have two both very well trained one of them is definitely more protective of me he does not like when people walk fast up to me he will give them a warning growls If we go into big crowds he stays glued to my hip his head is always on my hip as were walking. One of our rotts we spent over $2000 training him they trained him with a E collar best thing we could ever did before we got him trained we couldn’t trust him he was killing our chickens he was running off to neighbors yards and I was worried they would’ve got him for killing their chickens thankfully we have amazing neighbors. Just stubborn and not listening. Now that he’s trained with the E collar we don’t even have to zap and we literally just put it on him and he stays behaved he listens right away to all his commands. Obviously we don’t want to shock our dog but After a year and a half of trying to train him without one trying all these different methods we pretty much had no choice especially because he had such a strong prey drive. Our other Rott We got lucky with we didn’t need to train him with the E collar he listens right away I definitely think he sees our other Rott As alpha and he watches him all the time and me and watches for my commands and his commands and he listens to us right away. I definitely suggest hand feeding them at first because they need to understand who is in charge. If they don’t have confidence in you to give strong guidance they don’t have confidence in themselves

      He meant by the word "Yes" that he keeps saying right when the dog comes to him. So a word that marks the good behavior. Most people do good boy or YES!. So yes would mean the dog did good and would get a reward :) Well that's the gist of it.

    How to “mark” the come command. Is is as follows
    1) buzz until attention received
    2) say come as he comes?

    • @blondiex315
      @blondiex315 5 лет назад +3

      He marks by rewarding, by saying "Yes" and then feeding.
      He's teaching the dog how to "turn off" the stim himself.
      Example as a dog: when I come the stim stops. When I lay down FAST I stop the stim faster.
      Make the dog think he is stopping the stim with the behavior offered/given. Teach the dog to turn off the pressure.
      Add a word with it and the dog associates the word. Say the command word before or as dog responds to stim if the dog is quick.
      Stim applied, command "come", dog turns and begins to come, Stim stops, MARK the behavior with reward.

      Time in between Mark and reward is most important not where the reward comes from. The toss to the ground helps break the dogs focus on his sons ball out front.

I have a trainer coming, but he is not responding to reward training. Do you think this will help at all? I'm almost to the point of taking him back to the shelter. I'm disabled and I have a hard time handling him. I'm pretty sure the aggression is fear, but I've already had a warning from my apartment manager. I'll try anything at this point. • @Weirdanimalboy
      @Weirdanimalboy 7 лет назад +7

      He's gone over it in several videos. You wean off the ecollar by using 4 different outcomes to a correctly performed task. 1. Is you use the ecollar and then give a reward, 2. Is you use the ecollar but don't give a reward, 3. Is you don't use the ecollar but do give a reward, 4. Is you don't use the ecollar and don't give a reward. These 4 outcomes allows the dog to learn that an ecollar stim will not come with every command, and neither will a reward.

    Except for the name of the dog, that was my dog! I am with my Doberman, Jax, 24/7. If it took him to Larry, Jax would suffer from separation anxiety big time! This is such a useful video for me. One question about e-collars in general. I have looked at some that have three phases: a sound, a vibration, and a stimulus. It appears that Larry is using a two-phase collar. Is there any reason not to use a three-phase collar? The one I am looking at has a separate button for each phase. So, you could use any phase exclusively or in combination with another phase.

    • @NoBite2
      @NoBite2 Год назад

      @@evelynwest3504 Long story. The short of it is my dog, Jax, (who is no longer with us due to bone cancer 😢) responded much better with a positive, love-based approach. Jax did not respond well with the e-collar. Much of that might very well have been my fault. I may have not learned the proper way to use the collar. I did end up buying the collar that Larry recommends. If I would have stuck with it, it may have worked. But, in the end, Jax became very dependable off-leash and was strongly devoted to me. I have had five Dobermans now and each responded to a different manner of training. I now have a fawn Doberman male who is just the sweetest dog I've ever owned. But, he responds to the tone of my voice! An e-collar would be way too much for him.

      @@pixperformance21 i think that really depends on the interactions between the dogs tho, neighbors dog might be aggressive, but ur dog might not react to it, some small dogs can bark all day at my dog, and my dog wouldnt bat an eye...but some dogs give off a scent that triggers my dog, and he will go charging at him when we're just 20 feet away...thats the kinda distraction im talking, where the dog is already laser focused on it...either wants to fight them, or hump them cuz its a female in heat. then what?

    • @pixperformance21
      @pixperformance21 4 года назад

      Ur right my dog has a good temperament w/ most dogs. Dont have the answer for that unless I seen it myself, but maybe prevent it before happening by training 'leave it' at home then a park? Dog shouldnt be allowed to go after another dog like that. I do know that Larry has used e collar corrections for dogs doing that

    • @niajef
      @niajef 4 года назад

      @@pixperformance21 well i been trying to train that with ecollar as well, so far, with exception of a few dogs that either is too much for my dog to handle, or i didnt know he would react and i was too late to stop him, most other dogs are ok, like if i knew my dog and this dog would fight, or if i see early signs of potential attack before the fight happens, then i can get my dog to sit in place, watch the other dog just walk by while barking, my dog will have the fur on his back spiking up, sometimes bark too, but most of the time he'll just sit and stare him down, but thats ofc with me right by his side tho, and even then, sometimes it takes a zap or two, but if im like 30 feet away, i see him stare at other dogs, and his body freezes up, which usually indicates hes not feeling friendly, then if i tell him to sit or come, it doesnt really work...

    How can I apply this to a deaf dog? She is trained very well and is compliant 80% of the time. The issue is getting her to check in from a distance. sure I can get her to check in at home Depot, tractor supply and in parking lots with people and other animals. However give her an acre and when it time to come she will play catch me if you can, will avoid looking at me. ( This is short-lasting as she's 130 lb dog). However for her safety I would like her to stop avoiding me. The other situation is wanting her to stop running in the house without sending or to her place. I would like her to just stop running in the house and continue to enjoy her time without sending her to her place.

      handsignals and treats. When I go out with my 3 doggies I have only to stretch my arm and wink with my hand: come. And they are not deaf.....They know that after, something nice happens: going out + a treat. First try it at home for a week. Running in the house: when she runs put your hand up with the palm in front: stop: and give her a treat that she very much likes. When my dogs are free in the field I only have to raise my arm and acting like a windmill (because that is a movement they notice much earlier) and they come immediately. All 3. When it's almost time to go out and I stand up, they also stand up. But then I raise my hand with the palm in front (means no, stop!) and they go back where they were.

    Ok I have the best life hack ever with a shock collar
    1. Remove from dog
    2. Put collar on
    3. Run a bath
    4. Get in
    5. Turn onto highest setting
    6. Activate
    Good job following the instructions you should get exactly what you deserve for hurting a dog

      It doesn't shock the dog fool. It's a sound or vibration

    • @PinkBlue_Spood
      @PinkBlue_Spood 2 года назад +1

      An E-Collar isn’t the same as a shock collar. It uses the same electrical stimulation a TENS unit provides. A TENS unit can be painful on height levels and cause a shocking sensation, it’s the same it’s an E-Collar. But, that’s not the way it’s regularly used. If it was a life threatening situation, the vibrate mode some E-Collars have can be more aversive than higher stimulation to most dogs.

    • @PinkBlue_Spood
      @PinkBlue_Spood 2 года назад +2

      Not to mention, the collar is waterproof. Why would any company not waterproof an electrical collar..

      For now he is building a relationship. Don't want to ruin that with a "correction" on an anxious dog, will have to do more work to fix the relationship later on.
