Two things... first: I allow all comments on this video and on my channel. I only remove comments when they're outright rude, threatening, etc. So discuss your opinions, either way, but maintain a basic level of decorum.
Second: don't wanna wear the Pride Jerseys? Fine lol. Don't want your team to do it? Fine. The Rangers and others did that last year. But to ban it is such weak shit and is the most NHL move ever.

What they meant is go back to where homophobia is embraced, and people twisted it to mean it was something against Russians.
No fan or member of the media said that about of the Russian players who showed support for the initiative, because it has nothing to do with being from a certain physical section of land on the earth; it was about a negative part of the culture there that Provorov likes a lot.
Are sports games an appropriate place for Pride Night? No, not at all. But Provy, as well as all the other Pride Night protesters, didn't say that. They did not say, "this is an inappropriate time and place.” They did not say, "I don't like virtue signaling." They said they disagree with the initiative (promoting equality for people who still don't have equal rights).
Those players have every right I the world to hold that belief and to share that belief. And other people have every right in the world to criticize that belief. If that includes some people criticizing the entire homophobic system of his homeland, then oh well.

The whole point of teams wearing matching Jerseys is to make them more cohesive...if you're forced to wear a Jersey that goes against your religious belief, or that would put you in political trouble in your home country...that ruins the team unity and starts fights and devision. They don't force LGBTQ people to wear "straight pride" jerseys....why should straight people have to wear "pride shirts"? Inclusive and fair means it should go both ways. I agree with getting rid of the pride Jerseys so the team can focus on the game, rather than sexuality.

I’m sorry but if you don’t think players who refused to wear pride jerseys didn’t face any backlash then you’re just being ignorant. These players had to go on record and actually explain their reasonings because people were calling them homophobic and hateful. Only reason these players aren’t receiving relentless hate, is probably because there’s only so much you can be angry abt at once, and for these people they find a way to get enraged with practically anything. They openly hate and make claims abt someone, and move on to the next person they can attack for not agreeing with them. It’s disgusting. And you don’t even know what kind of messages they get personally. I guarantee you they still get hate comments for not wearing a jersey. Here’s the thing, in reality there are an infinite amount of topics that you could host special nights for. So when you pick and choose what you want to celebrate and honour, with some being controversial that not everyone will agree on, you’re creating conflict and division. Staying neutral and keeping hockey just hockey is the best thing they can do for everyone. And if you’re looking up to a professional sports league to talk about anything other then the sport, then you’re delusional. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but I support this decision. Sports isn't a place where political perspectives should be pushed, that's what different news sources are for. You should be able to turn on your tv to watch a hockey game without a political narrative being shoved down your throat. It isn't a secret that most members of the LGBT community and those who support it are on the liberal side of politics, so for hockey fans on the conservative side, especially in places like Dallas, Raleigh, and Nashville, it's sort of a slap in the face to turn on your tv and see your favorite team expressing support towards something that you don't totally agree with. It would be like if a left-leaning person turned on the tv and saw their favorite team wearing pro-life jerseys. Now, this would never happen, since organizations like the NHL swing left, and there are leftists who are pro-life, but the to majority that aren't this would be very upsetting. All of the LGBT stuff really shouldn't have been politicized in the first place, but that's what happened, and the NHL needs to take into account that a large portion of their fanbase doesn't support it. And that's exactly what they did, and I'm proud of them for that.

Choosing to recognize them is not political. It's inclusive, showing people of different races and culture that they can be accepted into hockey. What you're saying is that the NHL should only respect the feelings of the people who aren't LBGQT, or Native American or Black. Not having the theme jersey nights is a slam in the face to all those people who aren't straight or white or identify as other than their born sex.
And also, how many times have you turned on a game and actually seen players in their themed warm-ups? Most of the time, the warm-up time it taken up by pre-game shows. And only the fans that arrive early at the games actually see the player wearing the warm-ups.

Saying that "nobody cared" about the players who refused to wear the pride jerseys is wildly inaccurate at best and deliberately disingenuous at worst. Here's a partial list of some prominent reactions:
A fuming EJ Hradek said (on NHL Network) that Provorov "should go back home and join the Russian army." Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff railed on Twitter against the Flyers for allowing Provorov to still play that night, and accused Provorov of "encouraging hate against these communities." A Canadian show host named Sid Sexiero, foaming at the mouth, said that the Flyers should be fined a million dollars (actually) for allowing Provorov to play, and insisted that he be forced to undergo mandatory "reform training." Steve Dangle released an LFR bashing Reimer for 15 minutes (who has not been on the Leafs for more than half a decade now, for those who are unaware), saying "hate takes many forms."
These are just some of the figures in the media. I saw people online bemoaning the fact that all 3 Staal brothers made the 3rd round, celebrating the "karma" of Marc and Eric losing in the Cup Final, and when Provorov got traded to Columbus/Reimer signed with the Wings, their decisions were brought up almost immediately on social media (as in, "why would the Jackets/Wings sign a player who's an open bigot?"). If you want to be angry about the jerseys being banned, that's your prerogative, but let's not pretend that "nobody cared" when a player refused.

I think that this decision by the league is in response to a widespread change in the general perception of pride symbols/imagery and using them for marketing and publicity purposes, as well as the perception of pride itself. I'm not going to take a side in this comment, but what I'll say is that it's clear that a growing number of people are making the decision not to spend their time and money with companies and organizations that are endorsing pride.
The NHL is doing what they think is best for their brand. In my opinion, the league was only endorsing pride as a virtue signal and I think this proves that.
I've been keeping track of this for a long time because I do have an interest in politics and I've noticed that the way that the general public in both Canada and the United States view pride and the LGBT community has changed significantly, particularly in the last two years. It's become a much more divisive and controversial topic as of late. I've seen and been a part of many online communities completely unrelated to pride where certain members of the community bring the topic into the community and it always immediately results in chaos and I've seen it rip apart entire communities within days after the first person to bring it up does so. Usually what ends up happening is either, A) Group admins and moderators decide to play the roles of activist and gatekeeper and start mass banning anyone that shows any sort of opposition to pride being brought into in that community, neutral perspectives often get you banned in these cases too. B) People leave in large numbers to get away from what they see as pride invading their community C) The community just becomes a place where everyone argues about pride and then eventually becomes inactive when the arguing finally dies down. D) The admins of the community say something like "everyone is welcome here, but keep politics out of this please", sometimes that one results in more arguing or the community getting banned/removed.
This is a widespread thing on the internet and has been for years, but it's gotten MUCH worse in the last couple of years. Because of that, I really can't blame people that want nothing to do with the topic or want it not brought up in their communities.
Simply put, pride doesn't appear to have a very good reputation right now and even the community appears to be at odds with itself. I've even heard of a movement within the community to make LGB it's own community.
This is just my observations though, not telling anyone to endorse/support pride or to not do so. I'm simply weighing in on the topic and sharing my observations.

Why do they have to get cancelled after chosing not to wear it? I feel like a nice alternative to all of these night would be to have, for each theme night, something like five players that come out and specifically sign up to wear the jersey. This way, no spectacle is made of a player not wearing one, but they can make more of a positive show out of the players that chose to wear them, and maybe some of the personal connections that came with it. Also, the jersey auctions would be more exclusive and stuff to make that more of an event.

Overall, last season, all pride night really did was divide the hockey community and create a major distraction, not because the cause itself is distracting or necessarily bad at all, but people's opinions on it right now are more divided than ever. So to avoid all this drama and noise causing bad publicity for the NHL, its easier to just get rid of all themed jerseys (which by the way, are still being produced and sold, and there will still be HFC, Military, and Pride night, but the jerseys just wont be worn in warmups). It takes the pressure away from teams and players to essentially make a choice to support the cause or not, with no neutral option. I don't see this as the NHL going back on their Hockey is for everyone statements, I see it as a response to the backlash they got for Military and Pride night last season. Don't want pride/military/police jerseys to be worn? Then no themed jerseys will be worn at all. This isn't the NHLs fault in my eyes, its the hockey community and our inability to put prejudices, from both the right and left, aside.

You're right. No one should be forced to. And no one _did_ force these players to. They merely got criticized. It's true that Pride Night, a night to promote equality and respect for a discriminated demographic, has no place being brought into pro sports. It’s out of place to begin with, plus many fans and players are homophobic, especially NHL and NFL. And from the league itself, it’s just virtue signaling anyway.
That’s not what these players said. They weren't aginst the virtue signaling nature of it. They didn’t say it’s not the time or place...
      No. They said:
“I won't take part in this initiative, because of the fact that my belief is that equality should not be a thing.”
People have every right to express their beliefs. And people have every right to criticize other people’s beliefs. So - CONTEXT is EVERYTHING.
To understand an issue like this you MUST KNOW WHO is pulling the strings and why and what the significance of the issue in question (jerseys etc.) means.
THEN you can KNOW DIRECTLY what is REAL and what is false. FEW can do this and THE REST are damned to live a life TOTALLY LOST IN CONFUSION AND SUFFERING that is only temporarily lessened through escapism.

This feels like when your kids are playing Xbox together and they start fighting over who gets the top half of the screen. They come bitching to you about it but you tell them to figure it out on their own. After a few minutes they're still going at it and you just turn off the Xbox and take the controllers away.

I couldn't be happier to be a hockey fan right now! And no, the NHL is not caving into societal pressure, they're objectively standing up to it. LGBTQism is everywhere and now it's starting to lose for a change.

I'm with the NHL on this one. As soon as you force your employees to take part in something despite their beliefs, you are corrupted. People should be free to do what they want, but in today's society, it's "do what you want unless it goes against me, then you can't do what you want." Freedom of speech doesn't mean everyone agrees on everything, it means people have a right to disagree. As a business, there is no benefit to creating controversy when it is not needed. It is not surprising to just scrap it altogether rather than create uneeded drama.
As for those in that community who criticize and chastise those who choose not to take part in that political organization, they need to wake up. If you base whether or not you like something or how invested you are in a product on how much they pander to you and celebrate you, YOU are the problem. If you don't feel included or accepted unless you're celebrated all the time, YOU are the problem. You should not need special treatment to like something while trying to cancel those who don't agree. Equality is the norm, not the exception, so make it a norm and leave others alone. What that community is doing is no longer advocating for equality. That's chasing superiority. You can never say you that you stand for Equality and freedom of expression when that's exactly what you criticize when it affects you.

Forcing (or the media makes a big deal when the players don't wear them) players to wear jerseys for various causes is not support. Its just trying to get good publicity that I would think most of the executives don't actually care about.

To be perfectly honest i think this is a good thing going forward. Everyone thinks that this is officially a win for a certain group or the league backing down to a certain group.
    But it's not.
This is the NHL just ending the arguments altogether. It's the parents stepping in when the kids are arguing. The kids both don't like it and think that they lost but it's what's best for everyone.
I think it's best that hockey discussion is about hockey at the end of the day.

Yeah… I just really like the jerseys. I don’t disagree with “If you aren’t going to play nice, nobody’s gonna play” type of thing, and I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the reason, but those random jerseys are always siiick.. it’s why I love CHL/AHL theme nights. The concepts they create

My only issue with that take is that sports itself matters societally, it can be a vehicle for great things.
Teams can have issues with wearing specific jerseys, but the thing is, some players and fans may have been upset at the ‘controversies’ but many others (what I would consider a silent majority) didn’t have a big issue with teams wearing the jerseys or not.
I’m not advocating for forcing players to wear uniforms if they don’t want to, but to take the potential away to do good in a community which is who the team represents and plays for, on a more impactful level than just playing the sport is a gross disservice in my opinion.
Public support means a lot for the people that often miss out on recognition and affirmation. Plus in a league like the AHL they have awesome specialty jerseys for movies/franchises/pop culture that reinforces the fun and expression sports provides.
Instead we get bland corporate officials making the politically and economically safe decisions that kill any potential for fun/expression/representation.
Just a massive shame in my opinion.
