Hey Robbie , I learned such an easy tip when using soil from a bag . Roll the bag down (outward) as you go and it eliminates the awkwardness of the bag getting in your way 🤓🌻✌️

So glad you got on the Kniphofia band wagon!! When those "red hot pokers" have lots of blooms on them you will die! They will definitely winter over for you in your zone! You'll have the delightful grass-like foliage all winter and then it will start blooming again next year for you: YAY! Also love the hinokie cypress in that pot-it's the cutest!

Super cute video! On teasing the roots…
I’d slice down the sides of a rootball that tightly bound. They just need a real ROUGH hand to keep the roots from continuing to circle. So glad to see you’re trying!!!💪💪💪

Totally understand hesitation on the Kniphofia plant. Same here. Since the bloom color of the variety you have isn't really in your color palette, it might be less than one of your top picks. Take a look at the Kniphofia variety "Lady Luck". That might be a Kniphofia you would enjoy. Also, I have the same Chamaecyparis Obtussa "Nana Gracilis" in my landscape. It's a very, very slow growing and lovely conifer but you may need to get it out of the container and into the landscape soon or plan to root prune if you want to keep it in a container. Enjoyed the video!

Good morning. The pine looks nice but is the pot rather on the smallish side? As always your gardens are looking stunning. Adding those two blooming plants where did will finish or add to the spots. Have a wonderful rest of your day.

Toss the Verbena in the trash..Now. They are beautiful and quickly produce dramatic, airy 5-6' long stems topped by pretty purple flowers. Then they begin to spread. Everywhere. I just pulled more than 100 volunteers from one 20 x 50' flower bed that volunteered from 2 plants I planted (on purpose) in a nearby roof garden. All of these volunteer have appeared since last fall,. They range in size from 3" -4'. I live in Zone 9b (Davis, CA) so my growing conditions are similar to yours. In less to are really really on top of controlling the volunteers, so are just not worth the mess they can make of an otherwise wise, well planned garden. And, one more thing I just discovered. They aren't even drought tolerant. I had planted 4 in a 12'x25' raised bed filled with roses, butterfly bush, lambs ears, lantana, apricot tree etc last year. When the drip system failed, everything drooped so I had to do some heavy pruning to make things look nice again, but the 6' tall Verbena Bonariensis were the only plants that actually died. (Which is good, as I planned to remove them anyway no matter how beautiful they had look in the spring.)

A lot of people grow the red hot poker's where I live and we aren't even in a hot climate. I am assuming it is for the pop of contrasting red against the lush green backdrops.

The cypress is gorgeous! You & I bought one red hot poker flower. We should have bought at least 3 to make a statement. They are beautiful in large groupings. It seems they don't bloom for long though.

I love seeing you two together and I love where you put those plants. I wish I had your flat sized yard. Mine is long and narrow side to side in the front and back. I wish it were long and narrow straight out from the house, then I could make "rooms", but I don't know how side to side. QUESTION: Suggestions?
