Victoria Whitlock Music studies say kids pick up much more language from their school setting and friends than their parents, so unless they make a very deliberate effort to teach their kids another language, kids are generally only going to pick up the language most frequently spoken around them. It’s hard for a kid’s brain to retain a second fluent language no matter how much you teach them if no one else in their immediate life speaks in that language.

Colombian here, Spanish is obviously my 1st language and I think that you all are being a bit too much extremists, you may ask, why? Well, I reckon that primarily, no parents job is to "teach their children Spanish if that comes from their roots" because a second language whatever it is or it comes from is NOT an obligation, the only jobs and obligations parents have with their children is to raise them correctly, support them, and else, not to teach 'em any language, also, one of you said that if they don't want to learn it is somehow the parents fault that they'd be ashamed of their culture, well, what assures y'all that that's the case and it's not that they're just lazy or are not interested on learning other language? As there're people who are fully interested on drawing, there're other that are the totally opposite, forcing someone to do it just would make them have a worse disposition to it, nobody likes to be forced, it's beautiful to conserve something from your family's identity, but if you're not interested is not your duty to acquire it, and lemme tell you that that desperate need to remark some Hispanic feature, I feel from my POV that is just a inferiority complex to stand out in a supposed place of other people.

And I made the class sing with me.
After the quiz, 5 out of 20 ppl who were usually d class students in that class, came up to me to tell me even though they got everything else wrong , they passed the beef and silverware or they pass the quiz but had they missed beef and silverware they would've flunked.

As a Spaniard I think we are pretty short tempered towards anyone learning Spanish because pronounciation is really, really easy to us so we speak superfast. It must be hard to get the practice to be fluent and not give up.

Hay muchas diferentes culturas y yo creo que merecemos respeto, todos somos seres humanos no entiendo porque discriminan mucho a los latinos.

To me there's nothing more beautiful than someone making an effort to learn someone else's language. Once we met a United Airlines pilot who left the cockpit before the flight to practice his spanish with us, and he was a typical, born in the USA gringo. Heavy american accent, but making an effort. I felt safe the entire flight, having a person like that at the stick.
