dear viewer, This video is not hate on Kolkata, we just want to tell through this video that Kolkata did not get the importance it should have got after independence, because Kolkata is a world class city, and Kolkata has immense development potential . Kolkata has seen a lot of development recently, but this video is not on the development of Kolkata, this video is only on what happened to Kolkata after independence, on the development of Kolkata, I will make a separate video

West Bengal needs a change of government. Development is in progress, but it requires rapid improvements, especially in cleanliness, bus , tram. and the redevelopment of backward areas. While New Town and Salt Lake are well-planned, other areas need major focus.

Way less crime than Mumbai and Delhi, way less religion based riots than North and North-West states. Yes we have problems with IT sectors and Job problem , polution many more and we are working on it. North and South people have this superiority complex , every city in India has problem , as kolkata is only east Indian metropolitan city that's why everyone is ignorant about it doesn't check any fact and say anything they like. Wow - what a deluded, self-hatred filled view. I am ashamed to see that you are a Bhattacharya like myself [although I have brought glory to India worldwide through my own work]. No wonder others laugh at Bengalis for basking in the supposed glory of British colonial subjugation. Subhas Bose would be turning in his grave were he buried.
India actually had the world's largest economy (over 25% of global GDP) in the early 18th Century prior to British occupation, deindustrialization and looting of India's resources. Research published by Columbia UP in 2018 showed that the British stole about US45 Trillion from India from 1757-1938 (see Prof. Jason Hickel's article online about how modern Britain was built with loot from India). Britain's Industrial Revolution and much Western development was financed by 'loot' (Hindi for plunder) from India. India's world leading textile industry was systematically eliminated by the Brits so that Britain's new industrial cotton industry [copying Indian techniques and styles - e.g. 'Paisley'] could develop as 19th Century historians H.H. Wilson and Friedrich List both noted. This included tariff barriers, making India a monopolized Captive Market for British goods and breaking weavers fingers and even cutting off thumbs of the famed Dhaka Muslin weavers. Governor General Bentinck wrote that the plains of India are bleached with the bones of her weavers. India had produced the best steel in the world (Wootz) as recognized by English experts in the 1790s - and Sheffield copied its methods. French and British colonial observers noted that 18th Century India made cannon and muskets as good as any in Europe but arms production was eliminated. The oldest seaworthy ship in the Royal Navy HMS Trincomalee was built by an Indian Co. in 1817 but British competitors stopped shipbuilding in India. When 19th Century Indian engineers showed that they could design and build locomotives, this was of course suppressed. It was not until the 1914-18 Great War in Europe that India was allowed to develop some industrial capacity - then only due to Britain's emergency needs. They also killed tens of millions of the poorest in about 3 dozen famines created by Britain stealing India's foodgrains for British profit and Food Security. Robert Clive returned from Bengal with his 'loot' as the richest non-monarch in Europe and his East India Co. mafia became the super-rich new elite known as 'nobs' (from 'nabobs') whilst up to 1/3 of the population of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa (up to 10 million) died in the 1770 Great Bengal Famine created by their rapacity - as predicted by Richard Becher (a relative of novelist William Thackeray). This led to Europe's first Credit Crunch in 1772 when dozens of banks collapsed in days as Indian loot financing Western development dried up for a while. The EIC started peddling Indian opium to China from 1770 (kidnapping children to work on opium plantations etc.) which brought Britain 1/7 of its export revenues for 140 years. In 1877 Cornelius Walford showed that there were 30 famines in British-occupied India in just 120 years compared to 17 famines in all of India in the previous 2,000 years. This was because native Hindu and Indianized Muslim rulers acted to prevent and alleviate famines. The British created them with their profiteering, hoarding and exporting for Britain's profit and Food Security [it was Industrial Britain that did not grow enough food to feed itself - until after 1945 - India as a whole always did]. The Disraeli regime even set up Death Camps for victims of the 1877 manmade famine in Madras Province - giving famine victims less starvation rations for hard labour than given in Buchenwald - killing 94% of inmates. 5-7 million died whilst record amounts of Indian grain exports lowered prices in Britain and the West. Famine survivors were coerced into the new slavery of indentured labour in the Caribbean etc. Disraeli organized the biggest feast in human history, the 1877 Delhi Durbar, to celebrate Vicky being named Empress of India whilst 100,000 a week died in South India. In 1901 The Lancet estimated conservatively from the census that 19 million had died of starvation in Western India during the 1890s due to British policies. In 1936 George Orwell wrote in Road to Wigan Pier that 100 million Indians must be forced to the edge of starvation so that the British can live in comfort. As late as 1942-3, Hindu-hating White Supremacist Winston Churchill was responsible for killing millions in Bengal due to Nazi-like Collective Punishment of Bengal and - after British cover-ups were blown by the press in 1943, preventing Food Aid from other countries reaching Bengal, diverting US, Canadian and Australian grain to the UK. As ever, there were surplus food stocks in India as a whole but the Brits ensured they didn't get to Bengal. Even the Nazis allowed Red Cross Food Aid to Greek Famine victims in 1941. Many Westerners still believe the British propaganda myths, first concocted by James Mill (father of J.S. Mill) who was 2nd in Command of the EIC - that India was a Land of Eternal Poverty and Famine and the cause of this was Hinduism which had supposedly remained unchanged for 3,000 years. In truth, India had been famed for its wealth prior to British looting. The Romans complained of the Silver Drain to India in return for Indian exports. Columbus told his sponsors that he was seeking a new route to the fabled wealth and riches of India. In 1616 English ambassador Thomas Roe wrote that Delhi was the Treasury of the World. In fact it was the economic Silver Drain to India due to India's successful exports that prompted the British Conquest - taking advantage of the power vacuum that arose as the Hindu Marathas had defeated the Mughals in battle - but maintained a figurehead Mughal emperor.

Kolkata has way higher potential but still it is not growing as fast as other metro cities in India, because ofc the infra is outdated af and the skill development is lesser. Kolkata should stay like 'Kolkata '. Kolkata shouldn't be like some other cities of the world. Kolkata and London are the two cities where you can find living soul, this two cities are like living life- not like concrete's jungle. Development is the way to grow but development doesn't mean destroying the city- soul should be intact while developing, it's need planning of how to develop the city like The Kolkata- it's the city of culture _ the city of palace. Even after left government _ the rightist government like TMC didn't do anything to provide benefits for foreign investors which lead to WB's slow development or rather I'd say the reason for undevelopment of WB. The same development strategy can't work for the city of joy, for development of the city of culture_ governments should make plans according to the city and in this case for the city of palace. Government and development plan makers should understand the city first.

Other cities like Gurugram, Noida, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad(gift), Navi Mumbai surpassing Kolkata in terms of Skyscrapers...

@@shibamdebnath254 I mentioned this in my comment that Kolkata was the 2nd tallest city....for now there is no such commercial or above 150 meter buildings under construction or proposed phase...
Guru gram, Noida, Hyderabad all are having huge high rise boom where kolkata lacks....
In Hyderabad there are more than 50 building over 150 meter under construction and approved phase...where kolkata hardly have 5....similer to Noida,Gurugram, Navi Mumbai, Thane...and Gift city also approved so many 200m + buildings...
Chennai also have SPR city where 200meter+ building will include...
I hope in future kolkata would propose some 200 meter+ buildings in prime locations like em bypass or cbd area.

There is factual incorrectness in this video. I am from Kolkata but I live in Bangalore.. I lived in Delhi as well as Gurugram in the past.
    Gurugram and Bangalore
    - The picture of Bangalore ( UB City ) and Gurugram ( DLF ) that you showed are not a right way of comparison. In Bangalore, traffic is beyond horrible.. 15 kms travel takes me 1.45 hours every day. In Kolkata it is close to 30 mins.. Roads are also horrible in the city if I compare it with Kolkata.. Recently the Bangalore traffic police registered almost negligible accidents in the city.. not because of the safety measures, it is because no vehicle can speed up beyond 10-20 km/hr at max, no matter when you travel unless you come out during midnight..😊
    - In Gurugram, when I used to stay used to face huge electricity crisis, every house hold used to have backup. I moved to Delhi Dwarka sector 21 area to stay close to Gurugram .. the water was so pathetic, we had to buy 105 litres jar and store clean water from tanker that used to come post 5:30 PM
    - Kolkata infrastructure- outdated in lot of parts.. but that’s the same in other parts of India as well.. Kolkata commute is best considering it’s availability of buses, autos all across the city in reasonable prices.. I did not find this anywhere in India. In terms of basic amnesties- Electricity and water : Kolkata ranks the best in my opinion.. Even Delhi people use stabilisers for voltage fluctuation and occasional disconnection.. I have not seen electricity cut in years.. Water is free unlike other cities they charge you..
    - Kolkata’s main problem is it’s government.. and I must also add there is a negative propaganda in North Indians about Bengali culture and Bengalis in general.. I have felt it highly..

Whatever the government says they easily accept and move on if some policy is introduced wrong then also they do not protest at all because if they protest they went to jail with any charges by the Gujart police and journalists are sold out to the government as well so no news are come out from tht state.

West Bengal and Kolkata has all the characteristics and mindset of remaining Anti Development, Backward, Secularist, Liberandu politics and policies..

You will find old buildings and very old roads even in big and famous european cities too, if you think they have not developed like Kolkata used to be till turn of century I can agree abd i think it is part of culture and human psyche of places already famous they do not feel the urge to change things in large scale unless very much necessary. I found many of my bengali friends who originates from West Bengal as opposed to people like me who came from East Bengal liking such old styled roads and buildings, somehow environments like that attract them and it could have been possible reason why kolkata had resisted positive changes for long time.
But unlike cities inside Europe Kolkata's decline happened much faster due to partition of bengal and India in 1947 and war of Bangladesh in1971 and huge detrimental effect of both those catastrophic events on the city. It is like having an influx of refugees into old delhi and varanasi. However unlike 'Old delhi' kolkata had also suffered a serious setback in history when British rulers decided to shift the capital of India from Kolkata to Delhi.
Being a capital city is not always a positive change as capital cities also becomes unhealthy centeres of politics and immigrants from around the country, so kolkata benefited in some way as people started moving into delhi abd bombay more and kolkata less, the city would have become much less congested and much better place to live in had it not been for the burden of two waves of refugees but another important factor also worked in Kolkata's detriment which indian people are evil enough to not state and that reason is ethnic and sectarian divison within India as it always had been in history. Due to sectarian and ethnic mentality people of India and associated politics people in power in Delhi did not want to give importance to kolkata and politicians and most govts gave priority in developing New Delhi instead.
Left front govt tried to arrest that culture and create a strong independent infrastructure within bengal which had resulted in West Bengal becoming a power house of agrarian development despite being mostly a Kolkata based state in the past.
However , it is also correct they had unwillingly contributed decline of kolkata by neglecting development of cities in the process. That idea of concentrating on villages and welfare of village people had a historical basis too as villages in Bengal had suffered during British rule and subsequent period in independent india as primary center of activity surrounded Kolkata during British rule as well as the period before the communists had come to power which had created an elite class of city based people high on hollow self esteem borne out of power and wealth and low on practical ideas about ground level realities in places distant from the city.
All those had contributed in strong public support for the communists most of whom having suffered at the hands of these elite people themselves were very wary of any change which did not have ground level demands from places around the state.that characteristics is still visible to this day. Similar events had taken place in western countries in history too and likely to recur in future too.
It is also the very reason why i think it is very important that distribution if wealth and power across the population of an administrative unit is very important for survival of that unit.
Unlike the communists , the TMC govt inherited much more positive political environment thanks to the stability provided by 34 years of communist rule and unlike the communists of early years Mamata never had any preference for village only development, infact she has developed both the villages and cities unlike ever before in history of the state, even though at the cost of ethical practices which by the way has seen a decline all over the world and is already creating social problems in many places. I think she has recognised it too and probably is willing to take corrective measures against her party members and govt. officials. But she is having to fight with an even uglier demon in form of hindutva politicians.
But well she will win this round too.

And the government does that because the government wants to uplift and create many big companies of the future all having roots from bengal.
