- EU4 Dithsmarchen is a peasant republic - a pretty unique government type in EU4! Today, we check out the interesting mission tree to spread the glorious revolution to other nations in the HRE... whilst playing Democratic. Bit of an oxymoron, but it's fine because we're the good guys! Anyway, consider this an EU4 tutorial on misplays because this EU4 guide isn't the optimal way to play.

Almost all of Dithmarschen's missions are references to republican or leftist theory.

This also goes for every other th in a German name. It's always just an aspirated t. The sounds written as th in English don't exist in German and actually are quite rare in other languages in general.
Honestly the only reason I ever played Ditmarschen was to try and form Italy as a peasants republic. That was the best excuse I had to put "Bella Ciao" on repeat.

i tried to make a dithmarschen WC by stacking admin efficiency modifiers (completing their mission tree, forming sardinia piedmont, then prussia, then germany). damn that run was hard. and i didnt even manage to get to the prussian stage before the coalition recked my ass.
@@philip8498 why go for sardinia piedmont before prussia? I'd assume, since the required provinces are closer, forming prussia first would be easier. or is it about minimal culture flipping?

My dithmarchen run felt about the same. Except coalitions over 3 provinces.
one of my favourite campaigns is when I started as crimea, took byzantium and released and played as them, thereby becoming a byzantine horde. Somehow in all that mess my initial byzantine ruler started as no religion

Aren't democracies always like that? From Rome to America, they spread the pestilence of democracy across the known world until they finally succumb to their own decadence and hubris, and thus the degenerate democratic system fades in to the annals of history like a dormant disease, ready to erupt again like herpes.

So who is that? It's going to be the ones controlling information and the opinions of the masses, how does one do that? By controlling entertainment and news media. Who own that? The people who buys it because they got the money required and the lust for power to drive them.
It's inevitable in a democracy that the masses are reduced to cattle being feed whatever narrative their masters find most useful for their agenda. It's also inevitable that the masters are going to be heartless manipulative merchants because they are the ones with the money and scheming personality to pull off the maneuvers to rise to the top in democracy.

I love "flavor" runs, which is one of the reasons I love Dithmarschen so much. They're mechanically powerful enough that you might want to cheese the game as them, but their mission tree and position in the Peasants' War makes it feel so natural to just play the game "in character".
I'm very excited for part 2. This might be one of the more interesting nations I've see you play.

3:17 You have no idea of Democracy in Germany: We elected Merkel 4 times and if she didn´t retire, she would have been elected again. Germany has now just the 9th chancellor since WW2. And four of them retired by themselves.

@@phsycresconquest6636 There is a president, but the chancellor has the power. The president is just representative. The chancellor is the head of gouvernment and the president is the head of state.
When Germany abolished the monarchy in 1918, the president more or less replaced the emperor.
The chancellor is equivalent to the prime minister in GB.

Many of the major paradox youtubers make videos in a somewhat less sporadic nation-to-nation way, and spund time with other games a lot more, I dont think I've actually seen him play HoI4 yet

It was one of the most fun campaings.
After killing Denmark, getting my foothold in HRE I started to have fun with Scandinavia and Russia and did all mission tree.
Then I switch to Hanower, conquered England to do all missions and finally restored Holy Roman Empire ;)
The only thing is that I got a bug in which the New World Nations had INSANE amount of discipline and morale. One nation had over 300% discipline and 60 something morale. After that I quit the campaign but still got loads of achievements :)

I have played this nation a lot. Munster is probably the best early game ally. It has a decent army. You are not expanding into them for the first few wars. They also don't have heavy hitters breathing down their necks.

I believe you could go "no religion" by colonizing an Atlantic island, and then surrendering your capital in a war which then kicks your capital over to the island. As the island has "no-religion" you adopt it as your state religion. Florryworry made an Atheist Pope using this method.

Hemmingstedt 1500. The Danes are likely to have outnumbered the peasant forces roughly 420 to one, having professional soldiers in form of German mercenaries and the danish nobility on their side the stats didnt look good for the peasants. They pulled of a some nice fortifications in form of a earth fort that cut of the only road and flooded the entire area during the days leading up to the battle while the Danes did what Danes do and pillaged a town further south for a few days. The now swamped road and treacherously deep freezing water surrounding blunted the Danish assault. After hours of unsuccessfully claiming the Dithmarscher strong point finally exhausted the morale of the Danish vanguard and caused a full route. The retreating danish army left behind their standard and many drowning men, including many nobles in the swamp.

taking land in the hre cost 50% more ae coupled with same religion(50%) and most the time same culture(50%) or culture group(25%) is the reason behind the high ae btw taking land of the enemys ally also increases ae by 50%. If your are the defender you only get 75% ae so being atacked and taking land is nice, the war score cost of not occupied land is 10% higher, claim reduces ae (10%) and permanent claims reduce ae even more(25%), having claim also reduces autonomy after conquest form standard 50 to 40 .
