Don’t forget you need to connect the electrics in the boot for the hard top so the rear demister works. Think it is a case of unplugging from the fabric roof and plugging into the hard top.
That is the theory! I shredded my fingers trying to do it, then I was told by a 124 GT owner that they came with an extra piece of cable to link them more easily! When I can get to a dealer again, I'll be getting one fitted 👍
Great video. I really want to get this carbon hardtop for the Mazda MX-5 ND. How are you finding the wind noise at high speeds compared to the canvas top? Would be curious to find out if it really does do a good job of avoiding any water from going inside too.
Cheers! The theory is that it is interchangeable but I've not seen anyone fit it to an nd yet. Wind noise / road noise is reduced, not had any issue with water ingress (and I live in the UK so this has been thoroughly tested!)
@@TiffLangham Thanks for the quick reply! Its great to know that you've so far had no issues with water ingress 👍I'm not sure if your carbon hardtop is manufactured in Mazda's Hiroshima plant just like the Abarth 124s are, or if its outsourced from an external supplier... There's a MX-5 tuning specialist in japan called 'Murakami Motors' which offers a carbon hardtop for the ND (and therefore also the Abarth 124) but the rearward visibility is much more compromised than yours and it costs an absolute fortune!
Ahhh So that’s how it works!,👍👍👍👍 Clever!! I don’t think they are bringing that to the states unfortunately. Question: Is it quieter with the top on???🤔🤔😁
I think it is available in the US market! I know there was also a company called DG Motorsports that was going to make an aftermarket one; could've been fibreglass or carbon from memory 👍
There are two brackets mounted in the soft-top well that the hardtop is attached to, as they accommodate the body curve and the top will not fit as well. By the way, how much did it cost?
Per 124spider.org post, bracket & threads don't quite align - if I can be bothered drilling them I shall, but I've not had any fitment issues / rattles without - plus it's so quick to get on and off like this 👍 It was several magic beans. Well worth it though!
Thanks for this - I have the roof from factory on the GT but there are central bolts behind the seats too which are a massive pain - did you have these and ignore them ?

Hi mate i was interested if you had any complain about hardtop use. Sealing, noise, etc. I would use this car daily and i was wondering if the hardtop was better on highway for noise reduction or stuff like that.
It does indeed - I just didn’t think screwing unreachable bolts into a hard to reach and see place would make for a particularly interesting video! They are essential to deter theft and to prevent any rattling.
Hi Tiff, Great video - I recently picked up a 2017 124 spider and i’m looking to source one of these hard tops. Mopar don’t seem to have any stock of these anymore so I’m not very hopeful on getting my hands on one anytime soon. Would you know any websites/dealers/owners that might have any in stock? Thanks :)
Thanks and congratulations on the new car! The various websites that come in and out of stock change all the time; I'd recommend the googling '124 spider carbon roof' and just working your way through the websites until one is in stock! From a quick look now, there's a website called Lipscomb that may have it in stock at the moment.
At least 6 magic beans! I got it from a former GT owner that sold their roof separately, tiny bit more headroom, lots less road noise. Thanks, appreciate it!
@@TiffLangham I've just bought a GT without a hard top! I hadn't done my home work on cost of the carbon, now slightly, just slightly, disappointed. Hi tiff, could I ask for a favor? Could I send you the money to get a carbon roof and then send it to the US? I tried to buy it online but they don't do international shipping 😔
Hi Ricardo, I had a chat recently with a lady in the US, she used “italo-welt.de” and they shipped to her (in California). I think everything went smoothly with the purchase and shipping from what she said. From a quick google it looks like €4,600 rather than £4,600, so you’d save a big chunk of money too!
Hi, you are missing two bolts that fit inside the car near the doors that secure the hardtop properly to the bodywork and are difficult to fit and/or remove. You also should have two pieces of sponge. I would not rely on the two external bolts as per your video.
I should have put in a "some sequences shortened" disclaimer - I have those items. Although when I first picked it up I just used the bolts and didn't have any problems doing so.
WHY??!! I mean, you bought a soft top as I presume you wanted a soft top. Putting a hard roof on this car totally defeats the purpose of the car, I would never put one on mine.
Well, if it raining a lot, you will save wear and tear on the soft top. When the rainy season is over, the hardtop gets removed and you are back to the soft top driving.

Liking your build series. Compared to the softtop, do you notice that the car feels more 'rigid' with your new hardtop for handling? Thanks
Thanks! I haven't driven it at ten tenths back to back, but it feels about the same at normal speeds
