This guy that is interviewing him is so obnoxious, and really how Mike reacted was so gentle and forgiving.

Mike in his most intriguing phase. Rare gem indeed.
    Who’s the interviewer?

I think the interviewer is Simon Potter. There were a lot of good presenters that could just listen and pace themselves.Simon is a consultant now.

From the beginning, Mike rated "attitude" as a twin goal of making good music.

I’ve listened to The Waterboys since the 80s. In my mind, I created an image of what I thought this band - a Scottish/Irish folk band - looked like. I never saw them in those days being over in America & the opportunity never was there. I was in awe of this cool sound being made over in the UK & how the audience enveloped themselves around it. It was like part of their culture being played up there on stage… I - an American really can not truly relate. Anyway, I had this image I concocted of Mike Scott the frontman. Like a small weathered Scotsman with his cool accent up on stage. Then - well into my 50s - I finally had a chance to see them live during a US tour. OMG - finally… I can listen to these tunes that I’ve loved for over 30 + years. So off I go to the concert hall & come 9:15pm or so out come Mike and the rest of the band. My mental picture I created was nowhere near to what was now standing in front of me. It wasn’t bad or anything… just not what I was expecting.

hi Mate - the face of the Waterboys often changed throughout the decades...maybe the Waterboys of the 80's looked much alike the way you imagined they would... until the early 2000's there was always a spell of magic and mystery at their concerts...something special i can't really explain but nobody else could offer...this got a little lost the last few years, maybe this was where you got disapointed .. great to hear there are fans overseas

Dont like Edinburgh that much or the people from there but mike was certainly a place apart.
He feels like a true, true modern scot. No druggie bs or nationalist shite. A model scot so to say. They don't make us like that anymore..

Surely the 1980's were famous for bad interviews by people who had no idea?
