for best results after setting TDC mark the old belt to cam and crank sprocket, then transfer marks to the new belt and install new belt per reference marks. This will assure no belt slack between cam and crank and perfect timing after installation.
when you try to start your car with the new belt make sure to hook your plug wires back up, took me about to hours to figure out what I was doing wrong and why it wouldn't start with the new belt lol
You shouldn't need to use any silicone at all. The rubber seal will do its job. Out of all the water pumps I've changed, I've never used silicone. And I've never had anyone have a leak.
Thanks youtube for showing me this video 6 years later! Wow this brings back so much memories of my first car. '95 civic ex coup. My first vtec engine. I love hondas so much 20+ years later and I still drive a honda. '13 civic si coup 2.4L engine with the hfp package, '06 accord sedan 2.4L engine and a '16 civic lx sedan 2.0L engine. Something about that vtec and the style and design of there vehicles.
dennis parrish I AGREE. Since the crank is moving 3 teeth of the cam timing would be off between the cam and crank. FCAS could you further explain this. I am beginning to think that this the "ART" of putting one of these on. This is the make or break part of it and really none of the videos I watch are clear about adjusting the tension on the left side..
Cy Ance Or start the crank gear about 2 teeth (approx - may have to mark it) clockwise of the actual crank timing mark. Apply tension to the tension side of the belt by hold the cam gear fixed with some type of holder and then with breaker bar turn crank bolt counterclockwise until crank gear mark aligns with the case mark again. At that time let tensioner take over as the bolt is unscrewed to allow spring to pull back tensioner pulley. Then retighten tensioner pulley and rotate engine counter clockwise a couple of times to check timing mark alignments. I am not going to put on a new belt that has the same amount of slack as the old one - that doesn't make sense.
To remove the harmonic balancer bolt you can take a 2 foot length of chain and a carabiner. Take the carabiner and link it to the end of the length of chain and then to the towing bracket that is at the front of the car. then take a 5/16th 3 inch bolt and put it through a chain link and then through one of the holes on the bottom of the harmonic balancer. Using a 24" inch 1/2" breaker bar and 1/2 extensions/17mm socket also with a 48" . 1" diameter black steel pipe cheater bar (bar is $18.00 at Home depot) apply pressure and pop loose the balancer bolt. It will sound like you broke something, but you haven't. Also your 5/16" bolt will be bent but the harmonic balancer should be ok. Also best to do this with the upper motor mount still in place as there is too much movement doing with the mounts off. It is the poor mans way of doing it.
Cy Ance but if the bolt is frozen that wont work Ive seen keyway's snap and bolt heads break off in crank shaft even when heating up bolt it's a case by case on the bolt
Why don’t techs CLEAN those timing belt covers when they R and R them? I can’t imagine them not doing that. Just paid $1400 for a VX timing belt replacement, new cam and crank seals and radiator flush. Still trying to determine if I have leakage. With the original oil and grease accumulation, externally, it just looks like the work was never done. No brainer it seems to clean the parts before re-installing them.
Help! I have followed your directions (and other videos as well) and the car won't start. It only clicks and dash lights turn off. Any idea what I did wrong?
One more thing I do not think it is necessary to remove the power steering bracket. I would remove the center/lower mounting part of the upper bracket it is only 1 bolt (I think) compared to 2. All said this is a good video thanks FCAS.
...actually you are correct I was wrong Removing the power steering bracket is the best way to go as it allows you access to the A/C bracket/tensioner - otherwise it is too limited in space and tools to work with removing belts etc. Thanks for the vid.
Ok I need some help. My bottom pully will not com off. I have used electric and air compact tools. 1" wratchet that I broke. Does anyone have any ideas?.. Need help on this.
+Fixing cars and stuff hey man I am having a lot of trouble with mine. I just broke my Stanley ratchet and a s-k ratchet plus two Stanley 17 mm sockets. any ideas on how I can progress?
Pretty sure the red one on the crankshaft pulley, you will see at the 6:10 mark marks under the timing cover on the crank gear more Top dead center marks to line up, so do not worry too much about those. (i case I am wrong about those)
u didn't say anything or show anything about the ac unit i totally when threw shit trying to take it off now im down to striped bracket off the ac pully great vid but you fail to say anything about ac unite bro.
+Jay Platano I'm no honda expert or anything but I know that the dx, vx, and cx civics from the 90's usually didn't have ac and they were sold in america xD
My local mechanic charges $550 for everything. Parts and labor. It's a fair price, but the kit costs $80 -$100 and I can save a lot of money doing it myself and this job isn't really hard.

mkrp4 how to tell if timing belt is bad or not working? Thanks in advance
when you try to start your car with the new belt make sure to hook your plug wires back up, took me about to hours to figure out what I was doing wrong and why it wouldn't start with the new belt lol
Thanks for the video im broke as shit right now and didnt wanna pay a shop thos helped out ALOT appreciate man
Looks like the same deal as my 1986 wagovan , thanks for clearing up the tension process

is this engine not vtevh?
wow thanks for the step by step mr fixin. thanks a million
how do you turn back the crank to create tension? put the crank pulley back on ?? use it to create timing belt tension?then take off again?
dennis parrish I dont see how thats possible without changing the alignment,3 teeth different?

followed your directions worked like it should thx so much
I believe there is only 2 dowels in the water pump. Just check the new one.
Thank you for making this video, it helped me alot.
Very informative. Thanks a lot. Do you have a video for 94 Civic head gasket replacement?
Thank you for this video

Or you just set it up with the cheater bar against the frame or floor and bump the starter.

Cy Ance I appreciate the input into doing this job, thanks!

Is this the same procedure for the 1.6 vtec model (d15b7), as in timing marks.
Thank you for the Video! who is holding the video Camera for you ?
wilfredo perez I hold the camera myself or it is on a tripod on a cart.
Very well done....thanx for the help.
This looks similar to when I changed the timing belt & water pump on my Hyundai Accent. What's the approximate time to do it? My Hyundai was 12 hours.
Jerry Rollins holy crap, 12hrs for real?
12 hours? A booger don’t stand a chance dude.
can the timing belt cause my car to move like 10mph?, my car has low power, and also theres welding on my crank pulley ithink its called
Many thanks for making this video. It has helped me tremendously.
Ok I need some help. My bottom pully will not com off. I have used electric and air compact tools. 1" wratchet that I broke. Does anyone have any ideas?..
Need help on this.
Could a bad water pump cause bad gas mileage?
is the crank pully bolt reverse threaded?
+Jeramy Deane No it is not
Thanks.
+Fixing cars and stuff hey man I am having a lot of trouble with mine. I just broke my Stanley ratchet and a s-k ratchet plus two Stanley 17 mm sockets. any ideas on how I can progress?
+Jeramy Deane Maybe its loktight on there.. I would hit it with a blow torch for a min or 2 then try a cheater bar with a wrench not a socket wrench
no
Great video
for the timing marks around 1:55 which one do you line it up with?
Pretty sure the red one on the crankshaft pulley, you will see at the 6:10 mark marks under the timing cover on the crank gear more Top dead center marks to line up, so do not worry too much about those. (i case I am wrong about those)
Thank You !
ty sir great vid
Xsi integra rear disc conversion and thats it....
thank you
Nice I like 👍
Te salgas los procesos más importantes con los cortes que haces
Good shit
Why take the valve cover off though?
It holds the timing top cover.
nice job!!!
my 1993 honda civic doesnt have the timing cover???
Should put one on there before your belt eats a rock and kills the engine
u didn't say anything or show anything about the ac unit i totally when threw shit trying to take it off now im down to striped bracket off the ac pully great vid but you fail to say anything about ac unite bro.
not all models have ac unit only the ex maybe thats why
+Jay Platano I'm no honda expert or anything but I know that the dx, vx, and cx civics from the 90's usually didn't have ac and they were sold in america xD
uuuummm okay??? my 95 dx hatch doesn't have factory ac
bro shut the fuck up you don't know shit
anyone can go on the internet and say they've owned every single civic ever made in every trim level
How much should I expect to pay to have an automotive shop do this?
it honestly depends the shop I worked in this is about a $700 job
My local mechanic charges $550 for everything. Parts and labor. It's a fair price, but the kit costs $80 -$100 and I can save a lot of money doing it myself and this job isn't really hard.
