I mean most of these scams are "realistic" given the scammers are competent enough. It all just falls off the cliff once they start talking about gift cards
I think I'm correct in saying that only the well-educated and more affluent members of society there speak much better English than their counterparts operating the refund scams etc. These guys were scarily good and it is easy to see why people would fall for this particularly with the upgrade to the AI they gave themselves! They obviously have access to real customers' accounts in order to be able to cross-check the details like they did. I will pass this along. Thanks again DeyO.
That's because the guys who know proper English can't believe how stupid these scams are and don't believe anyone can fall for it, grossly overestimating American people's intelligence
@@georgeyreynolds You give the AI your account number and phone number and it is checked, or entered manually. Either way, the account has to be real in order to get through to the actual scammer. I've seen other scambaiters try to get past the AI. If the account and phone number don't match, then the call is terminated.
@@obns8814 It's not a AI , I reckon it's a soundboard or just text to speech or similar technology. I highly doubt it's automated. There is a specific difference here - the scammer tries to login with details given or the scammer has access to some customer details outside of what the caller tells them - it's the first of these. To be honest I'm not sure why it matters if it's a real account, unless gathering that information is important to them - surely they just want the gift cards!?
Great video demonstrating how REAL this all sounds. On one hand, it's good news that scam baiters are having such an effect on them that they had to change their recordings & methods. On the other hand, their ability to quickly evolve is disturbing - within just a few days changing their IA recordings in order to weed out false customers, & even more disturbing - that they have access to real names & real acct #'s of customers. Will definitely be spreading the word! Thanks DeyO.
They don't have access to customers' account info any more than anyone else does, at first. After you supply them with your vital account info (phone number, access code, etc.) they put you on hold and try to access your account the same way you do. Since they have your phone number and access code, that's quick and easy. Once they verify it, they come back to you and appear to know more about you than before. It's all part of the scam procedure to fool the unwary.
Almost each and everything sounded realistic except for Ethan's voicemail and the "Sydney" robot. Thanks for the warning, I know a few people who have AT&T and need to warn them right away!
He asked for gift cards and therefore, it is not realistic. There is a portion of the population who don't seem to know what gift cards are for. The key word here is "gift".
I have always maintained these snakes are fairly educated, and no where near the bottom of the economic ladder in India.. They have many options than robbing others..These are DANGEROUS people.
There were English grammar errors spoken by the scammer which are easy to detect. DirectTV fake phone number, recorded message and subsequent operator - wow - that is some well set up scam. However; always remember - paying for anything with Steam, Ebay, Amazon or any other gift cards/ gaming cards is totally criminal currency - always. You cannot pay bills with these types of cards - at all.
Love how the scammer gets on the confronting end. "You knew it was a scam the whole time." Like he has the right to get perturbed and confrontational. What nerve.
I agree this is a very sophisticated and professional sounding scam. I know you tried to report it to the Direct TV 'Fraud Dept' too but I guess your complaint will fall into some black hole somewhere.... a quick Google search shows this scam has been active since 2017! It brings up a lot of questions too, like where did they get the customer lists from? They must sadly be pretty successful too because the level of detail they go to cannot be cheap to do....
I understand and appreciate you not breaking kayfabe. I get annoyed sometimes when baiters say "haha got you" etc... At the end of a call. All it does it let the scammer think ok he was just wasting my time and there was no money to be stolen. Keeping in character the scammer more likely to wonder what could have been. How he might of been able to steal from this person if it wasn't for how they reacted. That's why I play the foolish scam victim the whole time
The scammer is good DEYO, but you have just proven you are better, CONGRATULATIOINS. You have bought a big smile to my face - so very well done :-). Love from the UK xx
What is the most scary about this guy is not only is he extremely smart, the way he speaks to DEYO is so calm, respectful and seemingly genuine, that he's able to manipulate peope quite easily. It's not difficult to hang up on, or not believe a scammer who is yelling at you, being sexually abusive and insulting, however, it's quite difficult to hang up on a scammer who sounds this professional and respectful. Making guys like him, more successful in the scamming circle, and the elderly will lose much more to guys like him.

i was helping a guy with his computers at his business and fake AT&T called him while was there with promotions bs. i told him to call number on his bill instead of talking to ones on the call. That's what he did and now knows it was a scam.
"Sir I have your details" My first step would be to check that, by asking what the details are & how much of them he can read out to you. This at least tell you what info they have on you if any & if they can't answer this or ask you for info then. They should have the power to read some info based on your phone number alone. May not all the info but at least some. Where as most scams only act as if they have such info. There is a chance he also got some info on you but it is a Low chance.
Not anymore. When I access my legitimate accounts for my cable company and phone providers, using legitimate phone numbers, they use similar bot software with the same ridiculous language, procedures, and limited parsing of customer's responses.
