The whole series was great. They were all more rewarding than NFS, because the races were actually in a completely open city. NFS has those bright arrows around turns and shortcuts. Midnight club literally put you in the full map with checkpoints and it was up to you to find the fastest route.

I think in the context of this game and in the starting city and in literally the first race of the game, it's good enough to set the pace of the game. Besides, once you leave LA the entire soundtrack shifts anyway so it makes the song even more memorable.
