oh man i just commented for you to do the earth element a few hours ago. either you responded to me and quckly made the video or it was just a coincidence lol
I never took any interest in the realm of Earth ever before.
And that has not changed. :)
Thank for MrRhexx for showing me why going there is a great mistake! =)
Can you do the Para elemental planes and the quasi elemental planes next?
some of this info is contradicted by 5e lore, so you kinda are passing on outdate info as if it was still canon, which is a bit of a shitty thing to do when trying to inform people on things that were left out of 5e materials but are still valid
ROCK AND STONE!
You know, suddenly the bottomless sea of the elemental plane of water doesn't seem all that bad.
Fire and Air are still the best.
Yeah I'll fight a kraken or two instead XD
It's only bottomless in the furthest reaches. Closer to the other planes, their is air, and corals, and scattered islands and so forth. Good place for I pirate adventure
@@playstation10able What do you mean closer to the other planes? Its literally endless water in all directions. The elemental planes aren't on the same plane, they're basically different dimensions so there is no physical space connecting them. The only way to get from one plane to another would be portals right? There is no such thing as a transition because its not transitioning to anywhere. All the corals, floating islands, they're all elemental pockets. Sure, there might be a portal nearby but that doesn't mean that you're in the furthest reaches nor that there even is one for you cannot have an end to something infinite, and the word furthest would imply an end. There is no edge that you can just walk through to get to the other planes because they're not even in the same physical space. So sorry for breaking your pirate adventure dreams, but unless you change the rules, that ain't happenin m8.
@@genesisbeyond4256 the guy covered that in his elemental water episode. There is conflicting info on the nature of that plane. Different editions have described it differently. Personally I’d blend them such that near large convergences, the plane is more like a normal ocean but deeper in the plane it’s more like an endless sea in all directions.

@@benikujaku4567 That's certainly a good and comedic way for a dm to save an adventuring party from getting earth'd
It seems like descriptions of this plane alternate between "lots of caverns" and "there are literally like two of them, plus another three that will disappear in a few minutes"
Yeah, that's kinda inconsistent. My headcanon is that the civilisations (notably dwarfs and snirvbelin... snirfveblin... deep gnomes) do not inhabit permanent caverns, but are constantly digging the sides of their cavern so that it doesn't disappear, and it gives them unlimited ore.
@@benikujaku4567 I figured about the same. 😄
Yeah, my guess, different edition's changed back and forth.
As a DM it all being Earth makes no sense due to the inhabitants that need air, but that very few places are permanent zones of safety. This keeps the astetic of earth filling most spaces and being the dominant element here, while providing encounters for adventures on the plane.
It makes more sense when you remember that it is an infinite plane, space is almost entirely empty but we get on just fine in it, same with the plane of earth, caves are super rare... they're just also the only thing to talk about
The Plane of Earth in three words:
"It gets worse."
But the plain of aire 😂

how, there's no where for the dirt to go!

Oh yeah...the logistics of this plane were not well thought out.
Bag of holding I suppose.
Disintegrate. Best digging tool by far.
Transform it into gas, or liquid. If you are protected enough to be in the plane of fire, you can do that perfectly.
"I'm so glad I found you all!! Buried, bleeding, suffocating. The Elementals here? They never want to spend time with me. You have to tell me of the Prime plane, there'll be feasts, and...." Geb, lonely God of Earth

Mr Rhex: gravity is everywhere, so there is no gravity. It's ver hard to explain...
Me: Lagrange points :)
Yet, one would assume that's not what happen there, instead gravity would be influenced by the density of the closest pocket of a diferent element and the one you are in. Normally in an air pocket since it is less dense there should be gravity pushing you towards the end of the pocket. Kinda like the inverse of a planet, which sounds interesting. More so due to it probably being very low gravity, to the point that I'm starting to wonder if microgravity would kick in or not.
@@Ditidos also gravity would be a lot lesser than in the material world otherwise this would be known as the plane of singularities.
@@Ditidos if the plane has no end, wouldn't that mean that even if densities are different, gravity wouldn't change? i mean, it would change from point A to point B, however, to a regular human (average height and weight) wouldn't that difference be minimal? meaning it would be just 0 grav all the way. Unless the pockets of air are like the size of a moon or smt.
@@igorbertoldo6237 Good point. But then you do not need wings to fly. You simply do, in fact, a human could not walk there since it would be microgravity all day.
Wait, the ground can have wildy diferent density depending on composition. Could this be moon-sized?
@@vid101. I mean, the strenght of the gravitational force doesn't really affect that outcome. In fact, since the earth reemplaces holes it probably cannot comprime itself meaning that singularities in general are not possible inside the elemental plane of earth (al least not native ones, since the native materials cannot be compresed).
I would love to see a video about the Primordials! They're very interesting, and I don't see much about them anywhere. Make this happen MrRhexx =D
I like the idea of a stronghold run by deep gnomes, kobolds, earth genasi, and dwarves. I know gnomes and kobolds usually hate each other so the dwarves and genasi would need to be peace keepers.
Also can’t wait for a hobgoblin video!
I would love a elemental Genie specific video! If you do end up doing them, I really hope they have a section on what they would be lyk as patrons 🤞

Well, if she wanted to move a rock she’d need to move the entire realm just to make space.
@@rylandrc nah
Huh, I honestly thought there would be a few air pockets in the earth especially considering that there should be some civilizations in said pockets.
Well, if it’s true what they say and the plane *is* infinite then there is probably a vary large amount.
Good luck finding any though 🤣
I imagine it to be sort of the inverse of outer space, where what there is most of is, well, space. In the Plane of Earth however, there is only solid matter, and thousands of miles away there may or may not be a pocket of something else like water, fire, air, or what have you, similar to how bits of matter are relatively small and vastly far apart in space.

Pretty bad Quote there from dscryb, as it contradicts the most crucial thing the Plane of Earth is: No Caverns.
A pocket of air, however big or small, would be a cavern... unless it was carved out.
The big problem with the elemental plane of Earth is it can not be explored. So Why does it exist? Caves need to be retconed in i propose merging it with pandemonium.
Like most of the planes, if 1 rule is the impediment, the. the exception is what becomes interesting.
Imagine a sphere of annihilation down there...
@@Markcrazeer The thing is, that all planes DO merge on some points, so you DO see caverns and all, muddy pools, impossible falls made of magma, or dust clouds, that are in edges of the material plane of earth.
But the core of the plane? Solid Rock or Dirt. Minerals, Gemstones all over!
Just no empty spaces.
From what I understand, the planes were more hardcore in older editions. 5E wanted to make them approachable
this plane scares the fuck outta me! being buried alive is one of my biggest fears! that being said, thanks for posting this. insightful, as always!

Also, there being no air also means you can't use the vocal components of spells, so that's a thing
The earth would carry all the sound waves so sonic spells should have extra range. Things like shatter, and thunder wave.
Lack of air for your breathing does not equate to a silence spell effect. Especially not once you have earth breathing, or enter a pocket of water or dust.
Cool idea for elemental plane of earth I think I will use. Routes and tunnels near my "central" area, meaning surrounding the main city, could have a purple worm or 2 under control to use construction of "roads" that they just keep changing and reconstructing due to the roads slowly filling with earth like all space does in there
I would think minerals and such should be classified as earth... so it serves to reason that an infinite plane of earth should also have infinite amounts of gold and silver and copper and so on...
Kobolds going mad trying to find a way in.
But seriously it's also infinite dirt so in all actuality you could just find dirt there not a single mineral just... Infinite dirt. Dm's discretion is the best and fixes almost every dnd problem
@@trollface1334
It's totally at the DM's discretion, I get that. I was just throwing this out there is all. Maybe a DM sees it and thinks "hey, I could potentially do something with this".
@@trollface1334
Oh, I should also state that I'm not saying any players should be finding a vein of infinity gold or anything like that. But if you wanted to shift your campaign in a way that required your players to have a decent degree of wealth to deal with certain problems - you could use this sort of idea of coming across a moderately sized vein of gold, or a cave of precious gems, or something like that to fast-track that (hopefully with some tact, mind you).
Edit : you wouldn't necessarily have to do it in the EPoE, but doing so could make for an interesting adventure in and of itself, with the gold or whatever being the ultimate reward for completing whatever quest you would have them doing there.
This is true, about the minerals and such. Just have to actually *find* those things in this massive plane filled with slavers, purple worms, dirt, dirt, rock, and dirt.
If your party is high enough level to make that work and take that stuff from whomever or whatever happens to currently claim it, then one should also remember that economics actually exist in D&D/Pathfinder and there are rules for how much money/magic items any given city can actually have.
So yeah, just put up a reasonable challenge for what the plane is, and if the players have everything they need to overcome that, then just roll with it.
I like to think there are tunnels and caves in the plane of elemental earth, theyre just made of various types and densities of rock. And different types of earthwalking creatures might be able to walk through the softer types, but not the harder types. So there is a world there, we just cant see it or explore it
"It gets worse."
Motto of the Plane of Earth
Me: it has to get better, right?
Mr.Rhexx: thats the neat thing, *it doesn't*
Elemental plane of earth, talk about being between a rock and...another...rock
Thank you for all of these!!! I am new to the game and I get most lore knowledge and inspiration from your videos.
I got sent to an Emmental plane by a dyslexic mage. Holes everywhere. Sorry for the cheesy pun.
Heard so much "It gets worse" that I thought MrRhexx was describing 2020.
I never really thought about Umber hulk reproduction before this video but Mr Rhexx somehow found a way to make it super awkward lol!
Digging would also be impossible. Because there's nowhere to put the Earth. Burrowing animals are able to do so because they entered the ground from the surface and push the dirt upward and out, or at the very least push it behind them into open space that was previously dug out. you quite literally have just teleport buckets of Earth out of the plane just so you could move around.
Keep it coming! I’m here for some lore to listen and cure my insomnia.
I wouldn’t say it cured mine, more like worsened it 🤣
As a DM, I actually created a magical item called Wand of Entombing. If someone is in contact with at least 10' cube of solid matter below them, they sink into it if they fail the save against your using the want against them. It wasn't until they used it to have one of their own party escape being killed that they discovered it shifted that person to the Elemental Plane of Earth... and that Feign Death character ended up dying anyway on top of losing their corpse. It was the 80s and I had lots of giggles after buying the Manual of the Planes. My players then realized why the want was not rechargeable AND was a coveted weapon.
Yes, without special preparation, getting thrust into the Elemental Plane of Earth sucks to the max... you are literally buried alive and pretty much buried under infinite undisturbed ground. You live the rest of your short life under immense pressure with no air trying to scream.
I really enjoyed this one, every time you said it gets worse it was epic
I would definitely watch some videos that are dedicated to only the elemental genies in separate videos.
P.S. the part where you said we don't know the name of the current Khan and then have the subtitles say LIES! cracked me up.
Are you planning on making a series about the outer planes? Itd be really useful to have noteworthy lore about each in a video.
Thanks for another great video please have a wonderful day.
I think its funny MrRhexx lists all the ways in which it can get worse. If theres no pocket of air in the cavitiy where you teleport to you, you would last like...what. A minute? Before youd died from lack of oxygen? XD
But u see, u can plan for that.
This is one plan where all your plans must be maticulate. Even 1 thing forgotten on your list leads to death. Long, slow, death
I had business on the plane of earth a couple of times. I was well prepared and you're still right. It was not a good time lol. One bit of advice to anyone planning a trip there is to create or obtain several wands of DIG. Preferably create your own if you're high level which you really should be. They're like magical middle fingers to most everything that pisses you off in the plane of earth.
Are you planning on doing any of the Para- or Quasi-Elemental Planes like the Frostfell (Plane of Ice)? No one ever talks about them and I’m thinking of extending my Rime of the Frostmaiden game into the Frostfell.
This came out just in time for the wild magic sorcerer in my group to open a portal to it and fall trough. Luckily he’s a warforged.
Yesh. I thought the Elemental plane of fire was worse. But this makes Hell, The Abyss, and limbo seem like vacation resorts
I dunno... The elemental plane seems to try to killing you in one shot... But the other aren't, they will try to torture you or convert in some kind of abomination similar to the plane
@@Voldrim359 yeah you got a point there. But it seems to be the Elemental plane of earth is DEFINITELY the worst out of the four
@@patrickdees5256 In terms of survival there, yes
It get so much worse I'd cry, but my tears are already all dried up
How do those other species like Dwarves, Gnomes, worms, etc live there without air? Where does the air come from?
The dwarves living there are all wizards, the worms too.
Like the other commenter said(I dont know if they are ALL wizards) the cities problem using magic air generation (maybe even a portal bringing air in) mass earth breathing and maybe even magic rituals or super abilities that keep the planes from closing the pockets
Some elemental pockets are stable enough to allow for the presence of air-breathers.

As always an INSANELY awesome video!!! Thank you for your hard work!
These video series are fantastic! Such great detail! MrRhexx's gaming library must be quite the collection! What else is in the pipeline, whar are the public suggestions?
I'd love to see MrRhexx make a series of videos about constructs. For example, the Homunculous only gets 2 tiny paragraphs in the 5e monster manual! I remember back in 2e, there was even a process of how to make them on their page- Oh the good ol' days- when the game was super slow and the lore was super thick!
With every sentence, I scowl even more. Not because of the narrator, but because I would never want to adventure there.
Also Take a look at the music animation video drawn and animated by jocat! It made me back it on Kickstarter...

@MrRhexx I think the gravity just pulls you towards whichever surface is closest to you. Just makes sense to me
10:03 Unless it's changed in 5e, the astral plane doesn't touch the inner planes. Perhaps you were thinking of the ethereal plane?
Edit: you mention the ethereal plane immediately afterwards, so perhaps something has changed.
Might be... Might be.
In 3.5 and 3.0 the Astral says that it is the glue that holds the planes together and that it touches all planes.
By the same token, I was fairly certain that Astral projection only functions on the Astral plane, I may have to re read that...
As always, depends on the edition. It wasn’t in 2nd, and when in doubt, I go Planescape unless I find something I happen to like better.
Aayyyeeee i can't wait to see what we've got here lol love your videos Mr.Rhexx!
Soooo... If you dig a tunnel in front of you, do you "fall backwards", sliding on your feet????
You fall standing while "moonwalking". xD
You are forgetting the gravity that pulls in front of you.
So a change in mass would make you "swing" (is it swing????) forward and backwards, until it stabilizes and you stay in the middle.
MrRhexx: But wait! There's more!
And here i come from baldurs gate 2 where dao djinn are kinda friendly, fighting rakshasas and happily trading with you. Oh well...

@MrRhexx When are we going to get "What they don't tell you about Angels"
Yes
I imagine he'll get to that when he gets to the Upper Planes. Fun fact: aasimon (angels) are only one class of celestial. There are also the archons of Mount Celestia, the guardinals of Elysium, and the OG eladrin of Arborea.
Amazing content! One important question. If the plane is as described (just solid earth with no way to move without earthglide) - how does the societies of gnomes, medusas, dwarves, neogi, etc work? Don't they need to be able to walk around and not be crushed by earthquakes? Big air pockets perhaps?
I do belive so, plus, they can just mine their way through the earth.
@@simonwesterlund2151 They could start a tunnel, but if there's an earthquake every minute, no tunnel would hold. I assume there needs to be a stable place (maybe a pocket of air or water) without big earthquakes. A powerful spell might create an area of safety, but they'd need a way to get to and from that space to start it in the first place.
There's one very obvious problem with all this talk of people/things burrowing in the plane of earth: You can't really burrow if you have nowhere to move the earth. This is not a problem if you have some pockets of air, but your initial description of being 100% surrounded by earth on every part. Yeah you can dig, and move that earth where? The only real way to handle that problem would be if you could compact the earth and fill the gaps with air. I'm sure there's plenty spells that can handle this problem, but it is still a problem that isn't solved simply by digging.
D&D generally don't follow real laws of physics, and different planes have their own laws of physics. But one way I can see it working is if the earth moved like a really slow liquid. You dont need pockets of air in water to move in water
@@zakosist Okay, well in the Earth plane they have normal rules of displacement and Earth is a solid, not a liquid. It's not different from reality. The denizens are mostly earth elementals who have earth glide or other creatures that live in pockets of air.
This sounds like the kind of place that a DM would send the party knowing that they're probably going to have a tough time while they are there adventuring
Thank you for the episode.
