- Here's a video focusing on several Gene Krupa drum patterns that involve splitting a double stroke between two different parts of the drum set. Gene Krupa was a master of this technique and used it in some of his classic breaks and fills. One of these breaks features the left stick on the bass drum, which is another great technique that Gene Krupa often used.

You're providing us all with a real service, Kevin! Please keep these marvelous videos coming! You make the Krupa techniques look easy, but we all know how difficult they really are!
Thank you, Jim! Very kind of you!
Super cool technique. Thank you for posting
When I read "left hand on bass drum", I thought whaaaaaat??? Then I saw you play it! Splendid, bud! Splendid! Cheers from Montréal!
Thanks, Rafik!
Great video. I checked out the Krupa/Mineo promo film just as soon as it was over. Had seen it several times before, but this time really checked out the split double stroke with the right hand. Mineo did a remarkable job learning not only Krupa’s playing method, but also his showmanship style. Although the movie was only loosely based on facts, it’s definitely worth watching.
Thanks, Joe! Sal Mineo did an amazing job miming to Gene Krupa's playing. I agree with you, definitely worth checking out!
Endlessly entertaining Kevin, super informative. Love your videos.
Thanks, Dylan! I'm having fun making them!
Very cool 🎶
Thanks
Excellent explanation as usual!
Thank you, Paul!
Hi Kevin I feel compelled to share this with you and your subscribers (I'm sure you may already know) but I recently bought a copy of "The Gene Krupa Drum Method" by Alfred publishing. It came with a CD and was dirt cheap. It shows the notations and sticking on some solos (Sing Sing Sing ex) and you actually demonstrate on a video how that is played.
First class, as usual.
Thank you, John!
My man!
So clear: you make us think we could do it, too. (Muffled sobbing from the back of the room.) And we notice that JAMMIN' AT CONDON'S has appropriately been replaced by THE GENE KRUPA STORY. Museums rotate their art, also.
