Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Answers To Fela Kuti's Petition - Oputa Panel

  • Опубликовано: 1 окт 2024
  • Former President Olusegun graced the Human Rights Violation Investigation Commission (HRVIC) in relation to the petition of Late Fela Kuti.
He was questioned by Femi Falana (SAN), He(President Olusegun) said it were all fabrications that yakubu Danjuma asked that they get Fela Kuti Dead Or Alive and that He knew nothing about such ordeal.
General Olusegun Obasanjo In 1976 was made head of state in a meeting of the Supreme Military Council. Keeping the chain of command established by Murtala Muhammed in place.
During the dictatorship of Sani Abacha (1993--1998), Obasanjo spoke out against the human rights abuses of the regime, and was imprisoned for his participation in an aborted coup. He was released only after Abacha's sudden death on 8 June 1998.
Obasanjo took office as the first elected and civilian head of state in Nigeria after 16 years of military rule, is now commemorated as Democracy Day, a public holiday in Nigeria.

Oputa Panel established by Obasanjo himself was a show of mockery to Nigerians and to the victims in case. The resources used in setting up this panel was a waste. All the criminal cases and their perpetrators, examined by this panel could not reach any conclusive end. Nigeria is a joke. Thanks to Barrister Falana for exposing the uselessness of this mockery panel and Obasanjo's injustice to the fela's family.

Nigeria is a not a country Yet. There is no regard for Law. these whole charade is a Joke, they are just comedian and they only came to mock their victims. Things like this makes people believe a little in the system and show that the leadership class aren't Kings. Things like this should be done often so as to educate young Nigerians on our government and democracy. Too many people are absolutely clueless about our system of government.

Really. Why should Nigeria have an amateur and less composed lawyer to question former President Obasanjo. It was actually Obasanjo who presided over the petition. The whole objective of the petition was distorted. Better organized panel should had been provided for such summon. The lord who took protocol of this petition is an intelligent judge whoever, he seemed to be bias by only opposing petitioner and siding defendant. Lack of Check and balance played a major role here. Nigeria this is the time to organized your judicial system in more stable manner with appropriate atmosphere. What a waste of time.

The C in C should take responsibility whether good times or bad times. This should be no different. Typical, Obasanjo showing arrogance and above the law again

With the recent brutality, it's evident that we've Successfully achieved the mentioned Anarchy ( by sliding gradually towards anarchy and chaos with unchecked irregularities, accumulated atrocities, tolerated dehumanization, unsanctioned corruption, unquestioned deception/oppression/deprivation...etc) leading to endless chaos.

Much ado about nothing this seems to me. One Simple, though very sad matter and a hundred thousand fancy words to colour it in the name of judicial legislation. The federal government did injustice to a humble folk...and pls stop using the word 'allegedly' in cases like this because the aftermath is apparent/evident enough. An elderly harmless woman of 77 years was thrown out of the window to her death among other shocking atrocities by individuals from the Nigerian military... 'allegedly' my buttside! In all honesty, an ultra sincere apology coupled with a massive compensation is the next best thing to ensue from any God fearing and democratic government. Should we really be sitting over this and wasting resources? I ask.

You have the greatest sense. The panel knew justice cant be gotten for the wronged, so they tried to give them the next thing: "speak, confront your accusers and be heard"

Obasanjo could be held responsible for two main points even when he dd not call the direct shot. In a civilised society, collective resposibility makes him pointedly guilty of the misdemeanour of his lieutenants. second, were Obasanjo to be a Northerner/Hausa-would he hv condoned a southerner /yoruba officer oppressing with impunity a fellow northerner. Femi Falana is not brilliant at all; he made Obasanjo felt he was brilliant. US prosecutors would hv shredded him!

This make mockery of the judiciary. Obasanjo was questioned as a president and as such, the questionnaires were jittery. And more also, chief Afe Babalola was too overbearing as a senior member of the bar. Nobody gets justice in that kind of arrangement. I salute the young Falana for his courage.
