Mzansi Youth Choir cover Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” in honour of those affected by Covid-19.
The past two years have had an effect on everyone across the globe. Some people are going through tough times because of the pandemic - others are having a rough time in their personal lives. We, as Mzansi Youth Choir really wanted everyone to know that there is always hope at the end of the tunnel - no matter what, you can make it through; dedicating our “Fight Song” to those who have lost hope. Moved by Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song”, we decided to make our own cover of it, adding a bit of Mzansi flair to the world-famous inspirational anthem. The singer famously wrote this song when she was at a particular low point in her live: “I wrote the song when I was going through such a hard time and I needed to remember to believe in myself…”Not only did she start her famous singing career in an acapella choir, but music inspires her, giving her courage when she feels like she can’t keep going - something all of us relates to. "I didn't intend to write ['Fight Song'], you know, for the world to hear to be honest. I wrote it 'cause I needed it. And I wrote it 'cause I needed that reminder and I needed hope.” said Platten.

I can't get over how good these young people are as a choir. We don't usually get ones that sound this good. Many of you could easily have solo careers and help teach the next generation. The hint of African dance moves certainly add to the flavor. I've been very sick for a long time and it's hard to smile naturally, but your songs and arrangements always lift my spirit and put a smile on my face.

C'mon! My Universe is what they were supposed to do and they did that. Can we stop acting as if we know what's best from behind our devices. With all the acts in the finals, it was opportune they got a performance with Coldplay from the song they chose: "My Universe".
