  • Here I consider how to write a visual analysis of a still life painting by the Dutch early seventeenth-century artist, Clara Peeters. For a written version of this talk, see Jill's blog: renresearch.wordpress.com/201....

But what do we do if it’s an exam and we don’t have access to the internet or the library ?

For an unseen image that you don't recognise? 1) Don't panic 2) Look slowly and describe carefully 3) Compare it to other images you do know. 4) If steps 1-3 allow you to understand its historical context, talk about the context too. The worst thing to do is to take a wild guess right at the beginning and get it wrong. All slide exams are a test of looking and translating what you see into words (as well as a test of memory and learning).
