I’m a carpenter in Australia and we do renovations we do everything so the variety is awesome and that’s what I love about being a carpenter
You make everything seem so pleasant ...every Kiwi I’ve met has always been the friendliest ppl...anyway, thanks for the videos!
8:20, "here is a fun building tip" he said to pop out the window followed by "it worked" he said with great surprise in his voice. Love the vids!
Social renting here in The netherlands costs around €700-800 thats the starting price you cant do anything with it you get a contract for 2-4 years then you have to move to a other house.
I guess its depending on your country. Maybe the house prices are higher but the average income is also higher.
You should have recorded the meeting that would tell the viewers how is meeting down in carpentry
Another ep keeping it real. I love your take on life in NZ.
Maru Kim is renovating in Toronto.
I'm watching well. Fighting.
did you guys know Rich back when we won the Radio?
Am for Newcastle England and you get a lot of looks when you have your work clothes on cos your a builder, all I says it’s honest hard work
I worked for a framer in Arizona who was approached several years ago by someone from NZ about going there to work, evidently they were short on framers 🤷♂️
I'd say there's definitely a problem with people looking down upon people in the construction industry across the whole of the UK. Not everyone does it but those who really appreciate and understand what you do are few and far between. Perhaps because these skills are no longer taught to people at a young age?
We live in a time where 'everyone' wants to be an engineer or is pushed towards some kind of office or computer-based career. The construction industry is seen as being quite dirty and reserved for those deemed not good or smart enough to join the rest of society. You will always be 'my carpenter' to somebody, while others will be critical of tradesmen who appear to charge 'extortionate' rates.
Always enjoy your videos and vlogs, Scott. Interesting to note the similarities between New Zealand and the UK. All the best.
Even hiace popular in Australia too for tradie. But builder buy the utes as you mention ranger and hillux.
2:51 me when i was 12 and got a hold of a sharpe pen and yes i know he said deck's xD
looking for this comment :D
Woah you're up late/early. It's 2:30am here (in Brisbane) must be at least 4:30am there in Auckland.
Wanaka master race reporting in. Wouldn't even dream of moving to Auckland... EVER. :P :P :P
Scot can you tell me if you can remember. What exact set from occidental you have ? Im buying one this week and i like yours not sure which one it is cheers.
Chance upon your video for a scriber. Straight away, I thought, this got to be a Kiwi. Bang on. Great video, your passion and helpfulness will lead you to the stars in your profession. A successful person once said to me: it's about communication, compassion and passion. With that, you will always get there and you will feel proud reaching there. Yep, sometimes it's hard yakka on the way.
If in August 2019 I went to Auckland, the food is very cheap in supermarkets, but 20 USD a pack of cigarettes and you can only enter New Zeland with a maximum of 50 cigars, luckily quit smoking
I live in south Florida and I make 75$ an hour and it takes 55$ to fill my truck up and rent is 1850$ per month. My shop like yours is now 300$ a month it just went up this last week smh it sucks everything costs a lot here bro
Nice to see the bar in action!!! Great video Scott!
I’m a carpenter from Canada looking to move to New Zealand on a working holiday visa in a few months. What are some of the best ways to find a job in the residential sector? I’d love to find a job working for a local builder doing general residential renovations, as that’s what the bulk of my experience is in, but I’m just not sure what the best ways to connect with builders there are. Should I just start googling & emailing contractors in the area I’m looking to move to asking for a job? Or is there a specific app or website that employers in New Zealand tend to use to find workers that I should be using? Or is just simply walking into jobsites a good move? I’d really appreciate any feedback on how I might be able to find a job! Thank you 🙂
Just find some building companies on line and phone them, I bet you will get a job within 2 hours, but be careful who you work for as there are some dodgy operators who go broke and don't pay you, some will employ you as a contractor and pay you a pretty good flat rate but it doesn't include sick days, holiday pay, accident compensation levies, overtime rates or income tax. Or you can get a wages job, where the hourly rate is less but you get all of the above.
Boa noite sou do Brasil , gosto muito do seu canal!👍🙏
6:13 same in the UK. I think mainly because people that didn’t really do well in school tent to go into building which is bad but we do get weird looks. Shame really.
Love it as always!
What do you think of Milwaukee tools??
Yeah builders are still looked down on in the Uk 🥺🧱👍🏼
Hey Scott, thanks for the video's. You mentioned the class thing in Scotland, I have a Handyman business in the South of England. It is all over however the bit that makes me laugh the most, is the minute a quote goes over a thousand pounds you never get a call back and ignored, which makes me asume that they will do it themsleves.
What did you put on studs prior to the gib going up? Liquid nails/grab adhesive?
Heriot Handyman he probably used gib fix one :)
How to apply sir I'm from Philippines
All right , but Music is such crazy
Dear sir i,am nishan manava from sir lanka .professionally carpenter my experience is 20 years Do you have a any vacancy for carpenter
wow the price of a house is through the roof there, i thought it was crazy overpriced in bc where i live
Once again SBC.. a good one!😎
Happens all over the uk the classes and people judging
Hey mate, cheers for more great videos. Keep up the good work.
Could you please recomend me where you got your drawer runners for your van from. Im about to set a van up for myself soon and just want to gather all the bits before i start
Hello, my youth living in Korea.Do you have to work under you.I'm 32 years old young man. Please let me know your sns
That's the whole of the uk bud, everyone thinks there better then everyone else 😤
is Festool worth the price?
Depends what you do. For the track saw and the Kapex I would say yes
Who... ever uses public transport as a builder? I wasn't sure if you were "taking the mickey" or something until it dawned on me you were serious.
Sup
👍👍👍👌👍😊
Aye
Scott brown. What is your middle name
@@narubell8816 we must know Scottish brownsons middle name
I started with Woodglut plans.
What hours do you guys do. Start time/finish time
normally 7-3:30. various between others
7.30 to 5.00
Builders here typically work 7.30-5.00
Yesterday I worked 6.00-5.00
Try being a chef, you can’t even afford to rent lol
I definitely picked the wrong trade
Me being a retired builder all I see with this guy is big-noting himself in doing these videos instead of getting on with the job that he is paid to do!!
Well, if he bid the job then the customer is getting the same thing. Probably better because he is filming it. It's nice to see how things are done too. Keep making the videos. 👍
Totally agree, providing a building service, while following an additional passion and providing informative and entertaining content that tens of thousands people who want to know more about building enjoy, what a fucken dick, im unsubscribing from this up himself showboat straight away!
My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article ruclips.net/user/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.
hell yeah man when you were talking about people looking down at you in edinburgh.. i've worked as a carpenter in edinburgh for 8 years, theres a real classism and its hard to put up with. I'm making the transition to joinery soon and been finding your videos really helpful, also my girlfriends a kiwi and her family live in auckland so this was a particularly helpful video, we'd love to move there for a wee while, thanks Scott
Sounds similar to life as a carpenter in Humboldt County California. We're small, pretty rural, so a lot of guys end up doing a bit of everything. I love it, everyday is different. Thanks for the great videos!
As a 36yr old apprentice in the bay of plenty I defiantly agree that the variety of work is really good.
How have you found getting into the apprenticeship at an older age than normal? I'm 28 and will be returning to NZ soon and think I might start one myself.
@@lancegardner7176 Yea really good. People willing to employ older apprentices. I really enjoy it. Wish I had of started 10yrs ago.
@@glenwratt7814 cheers mate, thanks for the info. Looking forward to it
I started at age 27. I almost gave up my dream of becoming a Carpenter, thought I was too old to get an apprenticeship. 1 more year left till im qualified :)
I'm 27, and heading to NZ for a working holiday in 3 weeks for around a year.. I've been thinking about getting into carpentry when I get back to the UK and reading this comment has just sealed the deal for me I think!
so basically the wages are poor and cost of living is high?
Yes very much so
I'm from London originally, done 5yrs in NZ, moved to Sydney and doubled my hourly rate over night. Also Auckland is the most insanely congested city I've lived in.
Good fishing though.
@Andy G - but how much was you Cost of Living in Sydney compared to NZ - eg rent / mortgage, electricity, groceries etc. how many Macdonald Burgers can you buy for your hourly rate in NZ, compared to your hourly rate in Australia. The Maccas Burger comparison seems strange but, it is funnily enough pretty accurate when used to compare the cost of living in different countries around the world.
@@mrdbooks7285 I wouldn't have a clue about McDonald's but I was renting a room in NZ and struggling to save $300pwk whilst sharing bills. In Sydney, I had my own apartment and easily saved $1000pwk and covered all bills and put together a 25% house deposit in 18months. No cheese burgers required.
@Andy G - so in NZ you were on Welfare and in Sydney you had a real job then?
That rear window in your van was tripping me out big time lol looked like you were reversing everywhere ha!
Chris Moxon hard out thought i was the only one so buzzy 😅
Chris Moxon you are right

Do You have an email address?
I want to send you photos of my van setup here in Aus
Yeah, I knew exactly where you had your meeting, just around the corner from me.
sounds like some: "I Know What You Did Last Summer"
Auckland traffic at the end of your vid one word “ painful 😖!!
Man, you gotta make a Spotify playlist with all of the tunes you use in these things, so we can have that smooth SBC feel in our own shops.
Okay a week later... please actually do this I need it in my life. Lol

Your buddy looks like Jesse Pinkman ;)
Can you tell anything about the more rural areas of New Zealand or smaller cities/villages? I am a cabinetmaker from Germany and want to move to NZ since I visited it a few years ago, but don't really know what to expect jobwise. I've mostly been to Christchurch and unfortunatly can't say I liked it that much as a city. Are there any prohibitions for me to get into a more building related job and how's daily life as a craftsmen in the countryside?
If you haven't got any information on that, I am still very grateful for your videos. Please keep it up, you are doing great.
Much respect from Germany.
I build in wanganui and am renovating a home here, I post vids from time to time, please pop by 👍
Check out Hawke’s bay , north island . Can’t get better than that . For lifestyle and jobs
Edit: cost of living in Auckland is far more expensive than the rest of nz
i understand what you mean about people looking down on you for having a trade but its not as bad in the west coast of Scotland where i live
its damn worse in southern europe unfortunately!
Spot on mrzombie170. When I first moved to Edinburgh, I lived with a builder (who owned an expensive 4 bedroom house a short walk from the meadows). He told me several stories of how people would look down on him, a builder with Indian heritage (who by the way was born and raised in Edinburgh). I’ve noticed people (especially Glasgow and Edinburgh) do look down on trades men. To this day, there is still very much a “class system” here. It’s something I never hope happens back home in oz.
I’m a plumber in the United States and I definitely get talked down to all the time and I’ve been doing this for 18 years
Hi sir How are you
My self Muhammad Ismail from Pakistan but I'm working in Dubai as Carpenter we need to your help how apply to visa for NZ?? Please
Hello Scot, I’m late in the game for this video, but it’s worth mentioning RUclips is « trying » to translate your opening phrase usually in an awkward way. Today it’s : « it’s brown here… » Next time will be probably worst.
Good morning sir Ahm, I would like to work in New Zeland, how can I work there?I'm from the Philippines, thank you,,,
good god your framing puts America to shame...
Kiwis who can’t work with their hands aren’t Kiwis 😂 Shout out to Tradies 🤘
love your vids man. your channel is why i decided to do one aswell. Keep up the great work.
from another kiwi builder working in Auzz
Something I’d be interested to see that’s not very often covered by RUclipsr, or explained very well, is specifics around waterproofing exteriors or sealing windows and fitting.
Many ways to waterproof an exterior depending on what you are cladding it with but most commonly builders paper
Me too, especially when you use a prybar to move the window and case trim out so the trim will match up on the inside. 🤔 that could have just created a leak. 😟. Mabe you haven't finished the outside yet. Like your videos. 😀
Edinburgh is full of snooty poshos and is becoming more so. One of the main reasons I moved to Glasgow.
I want to know where in the world I could be a builder without a vehicle.
how to become a carpenter in nz ..which course should I get . I am 27 and I want to come as an international student
I wannabe a carpenter i like working with wood sbd building also is quitecool and challenging lookibg
Hello sir I am 32 years old any carpentar job is thr?

Take care mate ;)
Hi
I really want to be a carpenter one day
But does bieng a carpenter provide u with a good amount of income as an owner or does it matter on the amount of effort and work u do.
What time do you guys start and finish a day
Do you need an experienced carpenter?
One day i will be the first person to view your episode only posted 1 min ago so i was close :)
good luck to that achievement
Greetings from Poland
What did Rich do for film and tv?
damn you're making me homesick again
You don't sound Scottish!
thank you for this . i look forward to become a carpenter from my present job as a builders labourer
Good
Love the channel bro, living in nz myself, good to see
Good evening boss
I's a British thing where they talk down to you, as they don't want you to suceed.... England mainly has very little opertunitys too as others run you down as they want the work. Don't leave your tools in an empty building esp if people know the area.
Great video Scott!
Hi
You should try the Milwaukee drywall screw gun. It’s cheap and bad ass!
Hi
@1:14 - "That is Not a Harbour Bridge" - Go to Sydney, that is a Harbour Bridge.
Anyway, I am an aussie here, really enjoy watching your shit. I will have to either Bookmark your page or sub, ..... bookmark or sub - I will bookmark for now, rather than finding your vids coming up randomly or randomly trending Now, so that I can watch you more often.
Haven't you been to Rich's house already?
he has several episodes for that house, doing different jobs :D
Question about New Zealand and money.
How much tax do you pay on the surplus from a job before the money lands in your own wallet and can be spent?
I live in Sweden and I have to pay more than 50% of what I charge my customers in different taxes before it gets paid to me as salary.
Sound like Finland
17.5% for most people on the average wage, up to 30% for the highest earners. Much less than Scandinavia
@@jeremyraikes2465 Thanks for the information, is that including payroll taxes?
Btw, pretty much everyone pays a lot lower taxes than Scandinavians, and yes, I usually go on a rant about that.
@@NomenNescio99 sorry that is the rate for payroll tax. Business tax is 33%
