    Look how popular basketball was and still is the no. 1 sports in the Philippines.
    I remember this tournament , I was like 15 years old and it was really a big event and to think there were no NBA players playing!

      Tako i ja mislim, jednostavno ako su ti Delibašić, Varajić, Radovanović rezerve, čini mi se i Vilfan, tu nema diskusije. A na klupi Nikolić, Novosel i Žeravica. Mislim da se protivničkim trenerima vrtelo u glavi kad ih vide. Prva petorka Slavnić, Kićanović, Dalipagić Ćosić i Jerkov (nepravedno zaboravljen). Sve kandidati za najbolju petorku ikada. Sve utakmice do finala pobede preko 20 razlike. Neviđena dominacija.

    Philippines is set to host the FIBA World Cup in 2023!

    • @TjSamson
      @TjSamson 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, it still exist and still hosting some big sporting and concert events for the country. The name is Smart Araneta Coliseum (known as The Big Dome). It will also serve as one of the key arenas for the Philippines hosting the FIBA World Cup in 2023.

    • @TjSamson
      @TjSamson 6 лет назад +1

      @Dusan V. Yes, the seating have been changed for many times and have saw some major renovations in the past two decades. Both exterior and interior of the arena have been changed to get it modernized. The capacity for Basketball can be minimum from 16, 000 to 25, 000 (if standing area above the arena are included). Although, as for today, the arena still doesn't have lounge suites. For the commentator, I have no idea since, it's not our language or one of the dialects here in the Philippines.

    • @TjSamson
      @TjSamson 6 лет назад +2

      @Dusan V. Yup, it's a very old arena. It opened in 1959 but somehow it can still house or carry a crowd that big. It was like in 2013 when a record of over 24, 000 spectators watched a playoff basketball game.

    both these teams were defeated by team usa during the world invitational tournament, a few months before, in Lexington USA. In that team, based on Kentucky NCAA Champions, could play Larry Bird and Magic Johnson toghether. The yug team was more or less the same of this final and was defeated by a very few points in a intensive game. Ussr was defeated by 25 points, i dont think Belostenny was in the game though, and some Image of that game can be found out in the Tube. The most important difference about the game between NCAA multicomposed squads or NCAA top team or NBA squads and the european single National team was (and is nowadays i think) the bench men quality. Yugo and Ussr played those games vs Usa Team using only 6 or 7 men, while USA team used to play with all 11-12 men with very High quality remaining. Magic and Larry were part of the bench!

      1. USA had 300 milion people. Yu had 22.

      3. & so on...

    • @ljubastojanovic608
      @ljubastojanovic608 2 года назад +4

      Yugoslavia used in that time to send basketball team to USA prior every Chanpionship and was regularely defeted even against University teams, main reason being difference between USA and international rules. Things changed in 80s. Yugoslavia was so superior in USA 1990. Good wills turnament few weeks before Argentina World Chapionship that this was the reason (and moment) the USA decided to send Dream Team next time (in Barcelona 1992). The bench of Yugoslavia in Manila was the best ever, Mirza Delibašić and Žarko Varajić (steel holding 44 point record in Europian cup of Champions final, with no 3 point shots existing) and the "couch line" Nikolić - Novosel - Žeravica the best in history. Yugoslavia was World No.1 in 1990., 1998. and 2002 (Sept. in USA), 1994. being banned to participate. Up to 1990 this was 20 - 22 million people State, after that 6 - 7 million (from 2006. known as Serbia). So if You want to compare ability for sport You could choose one or smallest of USA States for base. Yugoslavia and Serbia were never using foreing players for national Team.

      @@ljubastojanovic608 that's true! I would have loved to see the Dream Team versus one european selection with the best Yugoslavians, Soviets, Italians and Greeks. Croatia was great, but non enough good to win the final. May be in ten games the would have won two or three games, ...may be
