Yea he is almost too versatile, like come on he can play amazing rock and roll, folk, blues, acoustic pop and almost anything you throw at him. It's not fair to be that good you know.
Riding in the car with my dad when I was about 8 or 9 and he listened to his Dire Straits cassettes it blow me away... The feeling and mastership of Mark Knopfler is my leading star, impossible to copy or sound like. Mark is the best. This is as close as it gets, thank you Justin!
This is excellent. Every note in that song is permanently engraved in my brain, I've listened to it so often. You haven't missed one. Most importantly, you explain it very simply and very well.
I have thought for 40 years nearly, that this solo is the most magical, lyrical, ethereal rock solo ever. I'm a bit reluctant to try to attempt it because learning and playing it dozens of times to get it something like right tends to take the magic away so that it loses that. I have found this with quite a few guitar solos. What does everyone else think? But many thanks, Justin for giving us the opportunity if we want to take it.
No one can sing with its guitar as mark does. He is really and litterally speaking using the notes instead of words. It is his magical talent. Thanks Justin for this lesson, and I must say the the brothers in arms lesson is equally superb.❤❤
I think the way you do these is better than anyone else on RUclips, and *almost* perfect... there's one thing I wish you'd do and that's just briefly mention what scale these licks come from, and the chord that's happening underneath. For me at least it's easier to memorise all the dots you have to play if I can relate them to a scale. Thanks :)
The one solo I would love to have played... my favourite solo of all... well covered and learnt. Only confirms that my arthritic figures will not allow me to play it... well done Justin Guitar...
Seriously. thank you! I'm one of those getting my a$$ kicked by Covid and just needed a mental outlet and decided to try and learn my personal #1 favorite guitar solo of all time and came across this and this is soooo good, a great lesson. I can't pull of the whole thing yet but when I string together a few bars that sounds right it puts a well needed smile on my face. Thanks again.
My first copies of these songs were on cassette tape and I pretty well wore the oxide right off the ribbon. Is great to finally learn to mimic some of the moves/tones/melodies of a true Grand Master as Mark Knopfler. Thanks Justin.
Even the greatest musician of all time,. Mr. Bach, would bow to that gorgeous piece of music and guitar work by Mr. Knopfler. And of course brilliantly reproduced by the dandy Justin.
Thanks Justin! I've taught myself the piano, though I would not say I'm a musician. I have the entire "Tunnel of Song" nailed to my relatively low standard of satisfaction through "cheat sheets", with the exception of the extraordinary outro. Does anyone know where I can obtain online, for free or fee, sheet music or transcription download for piano, of the outro note-by-note? I know I can't bend strings on the piano unless I grow 15 foot arms, which I'd rather not do. I'm 58, facing some serious neurological issues and before they advance too far, damn it, I want to play this entire song on the piano. Even just once. The only other thing I can think to do is lock myself in my house for about a week when my wife is at work and daughter at school, with headphones on at the piano, and try, as best as I'm able (which isn't especially able) to TRY to transcribe the entire thing, one note and whiff of nuance at a time. Those last couple of minutes are my favorite bit of music in the history of rock and roll. Every time I hear it which must be thousands of times since I was a kid, my mind is blown just as much, or more than ever. Anyhow, thanks for reading. If anyone can offer assistance, I'd appreciate it. I can give someone an email address if you need it. Thanks everyone.
Ok, ok, I'll try this lesson ... In another life ! Way too much to remember 😂 by the way, what is the bridge humbucker that gives such a clear bright tone ? ( in which amp ? )

It's an incredible solo. Based on what y'all know about Mark Knopfler as a musician, how much of it do you suppose was constructed slowly with intention, and how much do you suppose was improvised in the moment? How much was composed of carefully chosen melodic phrases, and how much was drawn from his bag of favorite licks?
Knopfler has a singature style of licks, very recognizeable and typically him. He ties a lot of them together or inverts some directions like ascending/descending. Example: Compare the intro for "Lady Writer" with the solo of "Sultans Of Swing": Both unmistakeable Knopfler style solo's and they even resemble each other but they are different. A different phrase but written in the same language. It's hard to tell what he constructed but he is a strong improv artist. I was able to witness that on several live sets. He blew me away with something different every time :D | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant
Alexander Roesch the position on the red schecter is between the middle and bridge pickups, he uses it for tunnel of love and sultans of swing, or any songs that require the strat

For me, the best extended outro solo ever.
I know I'll never do it justice, but it's fun trying to learn the songs which inspired us, growing up. Give it a go & have fun along the way! :)
My absolute favorite solo of all time! Thanks Justin! ❤️
awesome fun :)

The whole solo is just wonderful, but 2 things I have loved in this solo - the run at 1:34 and the long piano runs.

Hey Justin thank you for this lesson. Much grateful . Could you perhaps transcribe down to the waterline. It is another wonderful ds song.
I read somewhere that you gave Mark guitar lessons. Is that true? Can you explain more about it?
Thanks for your videos.
Hi Justin. i love your videos. How would you get the sound on a Boss katana?
Thank in advance.
Hi there, amazing tutorial. Great Justin! Where could I find the complete tab file aligned with your tutorial?
