    Glad you talked about this, whenever i CR i always check on the paper-bird thingys to see what people have to say. I’m absolutely heartbroken when I see most of them are about self harm and ending themselves. Seeings the lantern messages made me want to cry, appreciate the video.

    I could not have said it better. Thank God I haven't seen any of those messages, they really make me feel sad and worried for the person. Sky is supposed to be a little escape from the tiring world we live in. Sometimes I also wanted to vent things on the game, but something always stopped me from doing it. Maybe unconsciously I didn't want to bring negativity to new players or any other player who was also having a rough time in their life. Much love everybody and please, stay safe in the game and in real life. If you saw any negative message and you feel that it is affecting you, please, consider taking a break from the game and talk to someone you can trust. 🕯️💌

    It's not appropriate to vent about trauma on a public child friendly game. There are many many resources and people who are trained and able to hear you. Your life is important. Glad you brought it up. Self unaliving, mental health is no joke. There are ways to bring up trauma playing on sly is not that place.

    I have been to two different therapists (was diagnosed with clinical depression) and they will always lowkey assert that having mental illness will never justify you directly or indirectly hurt or do any kind of maltreatment to others.
    Trauma dumping may be considered maltreatment as you only want to vent out but do not consider the other party's feelings and well-being.
    Was both the dumper and the one people trauma dump to. Both were not good experiences.

      This is genuinely why I've stopped talking about my worries or open up to my family despite my obvious depression. They know I have chronic depression, but to me, I'd rather they be able to open up to me about their own worries and issues instead of having to be dragged down by my issues that I know they cant help with. Venting on my part only makes it worse for everyone, and it is stupid so my notes app and twitter drafts are my own personal voids to vent to. ❤

  • @NobodySuspiciousHere
    @NobodySuspiciousHere Месяц назад +48

    I respect that you talked about this, I feel remorse whenever I happen to see those notes because I've been there before and I've seen some people on one occasion comment "womp womp" and "nobody cares" in response to those notes and that is NOT okay.
    My heart goes out to those who are hurting and I hope they get the proper care and affection they need and deserve.
    I speak from experience when I say Sky CAN be a comfort game, but you shouldn't look to it to comfort you.
    And thought people always say it and don't mean it, I do. It DOES get better, it really and genuinely does.

    Thank you for saying something about this. Not only that, but some would trauma dump you out of nowhere in chat when trying to be friends. I wish them the best but trauma dumping is not okay. Especially if their are younger people around. I get they need someone to talk to but trama dumbing is not okay.
    That can mess up for the listener, emotionally and mentally. And it is sad to see suicidal and harmful messages around the map.

    Tbh I needed this wideo. I'm in a very bad place right now, with literally no one to talk to and I left one of those messages on sky because literally no one else listened to me. I didn't think at that moment unfortunately, I just wanted to vent. This is why this video is so important, it helps me understand what should and what I shouldn't do even if I feel really shitty

    • @justabloke7222

      Main problem is that it hurts others, and yourself. You put yourself out there in a vulnerable manner, and unfortunately there’s people that lack empathy and will be very disrespectful towards you. That’s why it’s recommended to talk to someone in person that you trust, or seek a therapist because the internet is unpredictable. I hope you receive the help you deserve, I believe in you!

  • @yuccaluka

    sky added the ability to comment on boats, lanterns, shared memories etc. its possible that people could harassment the OP in their comments anonymously. this is dangerous. im glad you brought attention to it.

  • @jaya2572
    @jaya2572 Месяц назад +84

    Just saying, people doing that aren't in right mind and are suffering from mental illnesses. it's very easy (and kinda insensitive) to just say "Don't do it, look for therapist". Some are merely looking for escape while having no ways to reach out and cannot control themselves. "Anonymity" in sky probably helps them for a short moment. I am not going to judge them for it or report them. I still won't.
    However, it was before they made the comment feature on sky. I do kinda agree with your take that they might get toxic replies with the new comment feature on boats and shared memories so they shall not be doing this if they don't want people to make fun of/shun them away for their suffering.
    But I still won't report because I understand the place they are coming from and I think otherwise about trauma-dumping. I don't get bothered by it. If there would have been a feature that we could instead refer to, such as "remove this message and send a care message" or something, it would have been a bit better for those people.

    • @thqntophxbiq2954
      @thqntophxbiq2954 Месяц назад +17

      I completely agree with this to be honest. The boats were made to say things that come to your mind. If you don’t like the message just move on and don’t interact with it…

    • @zubatski
      @zubatski Месяц назад +17

      Even though I agree on the part of your comment that its not okay to say to ppl 'stop venting' but looking for ways to solve this problem like looking for a therapist is an important and neccessary step that not a lot of people take, but its important. Ive been there, and the hardest part sometimes is to stop complaining or venting and make this first step on the way to recovery.

    • @jaya2572
      @jaya2572 Месяц назад +5

      @@zubatski I am not saying anything about effectiveness of therapy though. I know it helps.
      My comment was more about how to not assume the person doesn't know about therapy or doesn't know any better. If anything, they might not be able to afford it or is inaccessible for them and just venting out in the spur of moment, yk. But it's not a bad suggestion. I am not saying that at all.

    • @vermillionz
      @vermillionz Месяц назад +10

      Exactly like I kind of feel like making a video like this is sort of unnecessary? Like believe me, it’s NOT that easy for people suffering from mental illness to just “not vent”, they do it out of strong compulsion. But how hard can it be for those who aren’t affected by it to just move on and play the game?? Why are we dissing on those who are suffering for letting out cries of help?? The “venting about it on sky will not help you” part was so..💀I’m sorry but this person has clearly never struggled in this way, idk why they’re speaking on it...

    • @hinnyu7748
      @hinnyu7748 Месяц назад +9

      As far as I know, reporting a message boat will not ban a player. People will just cease to see it and you woouldn't even know of it. It is actually helpful just to makr sure there will be no chance for a degen to reply on it and for others not to be compelled to do the same. Leaving those kind of notes already became normalized and it is not okay.
      We can't fix them. The only way of treatment is for them to have self-awareness.
      I am diagnosed with major depressive disorder, btw. Just letting us vent out or coddle us as a form of “care” will never help us because we will still feel shit no matter what. The road for betterment will only come from us ourselves.. the only thing others can do is to not make it worse.

    Thank you for this video, your words at the last bit made me cry. Its not common that someone would actually address this sort of topic in the most humane and considerate way I could ever imagine. I have been in sky for so long, met great people along the way and knew of their struggles. I have to admit, I had been one of those people who had used the notes as a means of expressing how I felt, but it wasn't the most obvious. I did it through poetry and always made sure to add something hopeful since I knew it might affect who could read it. It's also thanks to a good old friend of mine that once told me to be careful of saying such sensitive topics online, especially to young children.
    As a person who cares for people even strangers, thank you for making this video.

  • @enginear663

    The paperboats, swans, lanterns are super duper depressing, I'm kinda glad they added the ability to comment, cause when I read the Sad posting boats I usually comment something snarky or silly "unaliving" is narcissistic at heart, the people that talk about it are just looking for attention. So I give them the attention they crave by pointing out how silly they sound. People that actually feel like "unaliving" just have the conviction to do it and do it without a word to anyone.
    On a side note my girlfriend I met in sky used to send little "love boats" to each other every Monday in an effort to lighten the mood but that was before we moved in together.

  • @pendulan_t

    I would suggest anonymous confession websites for those who want to vent but have no one to do it to IRL. Some of them allow replies and upvotes, some have their submissions filtered by moderators before getting posted, some don't. I'm not going to tell you that venting is 'drowning yourself in negativity without fixing anything' or 'always fine to do because you need it', because there are more reasonable viewpoints between these two extremes. Sometimes you just need to vent, just because you're venting doesn't mean you haven't/aren't trying to get help, et cetera.
    Do you deserve to be listened to? Yes. But there are still suitable times and places, as for most things. You deserve a space for that, and other Sky players also deserve the space that they signed up for in this event.

    People feel safe to share how they feel. It can be inappropriate if they’re too graphic but I see no issue if someone wants to let it out in an innocent way. Report the inappropriate ones that are too graphic and leave the others alone. Most kids can’t process what people’s rants mean. I appreciate that someone cares enough to talk about it and post a video about it and you’re giving people other options but overall you can’t stop it and I think someone talking about their problems doesn’t actually harm people unless, again, it’s graphic.

    • @lotuslabyrinth666
      @lotuslabyrinth666 Месяц назад +2

      Also just want to mention the internet commonly lacks safe spaces for people to open up about their problems. It’s taken me years of searching to find only a couple REAL safe spaces to talk about things/let it out. Obviously a game for any age isn’t the best place to vent/rant I have not seen many that are inappropriate for young people. Personally I find the suggestive s3xual ones to be worse than someone talking about being sad theyre alive.

      i dont know your situation a hundred percent but with "adults" coming to younger teens with their horrible mental health is wayyy too common on the internet space (almost so much that i've seen it be described as a 'canon event' jokingly), please be careful out there and make sure you're able to get out if it gets too much, and remember that you should never feel obligated to constantly be watching over someone. if you're uncomfortable with them talking to you like this a lot i'd advise maybe temporarily blocking them just so they don't see that you're online every time.

  • @whatzittooyah9182
    @whatzittooyah9182 Месяц назад +3

    Thanks for speaking up about this. I haven’t seen it myself or maybe I have but I couldn’t read them because they’re in another language. Either way, I agree it’s inappropriate. Unfortunately a lot of people are unable to get help for their mental anguish because of lack of access to medical care or because mental health is culturally stigmatized in their country. This causes people to lash out in ways that feel safe to them, but ends up being hurtful to others. All we can do is report the lanterns and drown them out with proper riddles like we’re prompted to, or with positive messages.
    And if anyone out there is struggling, please know that this pain is not permanent. All things shall pass and there are people out there who will help you wait it out. I’ve been in some dark places myself so trust me on this please. You got this.

  • @nikagallagher588
    @nikagallagher588 Месяц назад +3

    it is not quite right to say such words for all people suffering from mental problems. someone just needs to speak out into the void, it will bring them a small amount of relief. others may skip the message and move on, but it will make a person feel better that at least some people saw their quiet cry of the soul. for many, Sky is a safe place where they can open themselves up and finally relax against the oppressive reality. you don't have to report such people, just walk past them. everyone copes as best they can. everyone fights as best they can. people with a healthy soul will never understand those who live differently

Some kids are feeling the same way (suicidal and depressed), but seeing the graphic material like that can trigger them as well.

    Oh my English is not so good and you talk so fast. I don‘t understand well. But wanna hear exactly what you say. Could you translate it please. Oh unlock if there if is a transcription. You really sound angry. What about? I need to find out
    Transcription is very fast too. Jesus, which comments have you read???? But you talk out of your heart. It really impressed me. And this bad habit you can find sometimes at the direct playing 😢 yes, there are toxic human beings around. I didn’t understand everything. But I guess I feel you. And I thank you, that you have brought it out to that point. I try to make photos of the whole transcription that I can translate

      A lot of people including me play sky as a form of escapism, for me personally it helps me forget about traumatic things that I think about daily and distracts me from self endangering thoughts because the atmosphere is mostly peaceful and the whole game gives me the feeling of being a child in a beautiful world unlike reality again
