yeah, they are finally getting serious with their story. the previous 3 (monstadt liyue and inazuma) has been pretty straightforward and has that casual feeling to it, there is barely any sense of scary dark terror and dangerous. with the recent chasm deinsleif archon quest, world quest and this teaser trailer i am hyped for what sumeru has to offer, the story seems to get more mature.
i’m more amazed at the script writing. we’ve known since long time that these harbingers are based off Commedia Dell’arte, and they just dropped “Time to end this foolish theatrics, right now you have no captive audience.” line. that’s a creative way to tell the audience that they’re confirming about it. i see you still haven’t finished inazuma, so you don’t know what’s the context of this teaser. after you finish it, you’ll know why they put only a bit red color just to highlight that fire butterfly. also that gnosis on chessboard shot is amazing, i love it. hoyo made it looks like the harbingers really despise the gods so they put and play it on the board while strategizing.
That chess board also has a lot of meaning, how the pieces were arranged tells a lot about how the story is going now and will probably be in the future too. I love how much attention they put in the story details in game. If he is still in Inazuma it's too early for him to be disappointed. I've been playing this game for a while there were times I got burnt out but all the new events, bomb lore dropping and characters are making me beyond excited.
I mean, the fact they use the term "Lazzo" in the name of the animation is an even bigger confirmation, since a Lazzo is a scripted routine within the Commedia Dell'arte.

In there, she had deep trauma involving the Fatui, so her vision of the burning tree at the end may mean she could be quite important in the game’s next arc as well. All characters in the trailer except Childe are basically first time design reveals. Pulcinella can also be considered an exception as part of his design was in the Travail trailer, but he was completely obscured and we only know his name from the video description. As for the 2D style, they typically use this style for all of the newly announced 5 stars character teasers (and for some reason Fischl) which are uploaded before their demo trailer.

I beleive the tail end of the trailer was a new character from the upcoming 3.0 release of sumeru dreaming about one of the harbingers burning down a presumably very important tree. Just what I inferences from the trailer
This trailer is absolutely amazing. As a vtuber myself, I noticed what looked to be the Live2D very quickly. The quality of the 2D is really nice. I can’t wait for Sumeru and 3.0 to come out!
Collei ( the girl at the end ) is originally from the Genshin manga that started in 2018 . She was experimented as a child by the Fatui Harbringer Il Dottore ( the guy who was burning the giant tree ) , she eventually escaped and made her way to Mondstat during the previous Ludi Harpastum where the Knights of Favonius helped , and she grew really close to Amber . Lisa reached out to the Sumeru academia to help Collei recover from the experiments , Cyno being the one who came to take her to Sumeru . The manga also shows a ton more plot relevant events such as : how Diluc' father died and why he doesn't like Kaeya , the fall of the Lawrance clan and the founding of the Knights of Favonius , which are connected since the original Grandmaster of KOF was a former slave of the Lawrence clan , and how said Grandmaster reached fucking Celestia , giving us the only shot of what actually is on Celestia that we have
The Character Teaser videos use the Live2D style, as well. The 5-star characters get Character Teasers, which are often released _before_ the Character Demo. Raiden Shogun's Character Teaser is considered the best one, and you should definitely check it out after you finish the Inazuma story, if you haven't already. It conveys so much without a single word spoken until the end. Maybe revisit Winter Night's Lazzo after you finish Inazuma too, since it takes place after the Inazuma story.
Finally!!! I knew u couldn't pass this up! The day it released, everyone went bonkers!!! And now u know why. Also, between your film making perspective and Marco Meatball's opera perspective, I love how you two pick out the details and explain how they add to the game. It would be amazing if you guys react to each other......or collab!!!
this trailer also has some fantastic choices in reveals, as a lot of the things in the vid have already been shown, spoken of, or eluded to in some way shape or forme in the past, and the reveal that those things are now story relevant and are coming to the game brought a second level of excitement to the whole thing. (as you might see if you watch a long time players reaction to it) The intro starting with the "fire-moth" alongside that specific song immediately connects this vid to one of the main antagonists we have seen so far, but because im not gonna spoil theres not much more I can say on that. The character "Dottore", and the green haired girl at the end "Collei" were both in the genshin impact manga, that was released before the game even launched, with Dottore being the villain and Collei being the main character alongside Amber (who you meet at the start of the game). The mention of Dottore wouldve immediately grabbed the viewers attention, then cutting to the scene of him waving the vial around gives a moment of realisation that "this character you havent seen 2 years is about to be shown" before then shocking the viewer with his almost complete redesign, alongside his voice (which obviously wasnt in the written manga). The scene at the end featuring a conversation between dottore and (someone) causes there to be a "wait a minute" moment, before the turn in music to the eastern style we have since come to associate with the yet-to-be-released region of Sumeru. this shift in music happens alongside the reveal of a dark, red-orange scene of burning and chaos in what we assume is the big story reveal "end credit scene" of the vid. BUT then there is a cut to vivid green, which the viewers have already come to make the connections between sumeru and green to mean dendro, as we see the first new dendro character revealed, which is already very exciting, but then we hear that voice calling her "Collei" and then you realise that not only that this is Collei, but this is a redesigned Collei, and that she is finally coming to the game, and then we hear her voice for the first time just as the video ends. the ending hits good when we have been waiting for this character for literally 2 years. heres an example if you for some reason need some proof that it was drop after drop after drop for some lmao ruclips.net/video/XjzBhRJFIzo/видео.html

Its a great trailer with some massive lore reveals while also setting the tone for the Sumeru story, especially Collei, who is from the manga but since the manga never completed its story we have no idea how she ended up with a Vision or in Sumeru. She has been revealed to be a playable character though(probably 4 star) so can't wait to see how it all unfolds.
It actually ended with Collei leaving Mondstadt and leaving Amber a letter thst she's heading for Sumeru. It's just in Chinese tho, the last three chapters never got translated to Japanese and English.
The teaser art style is very intentional, Genshin characters all have complex models, they'd seem incomplete in any reasonable full animation. So instead they draw highly accurate still frames to be rigged and angled to properly express a character. The result is cool because we're these trailers put into a 3D model engine you could move from the perspective angle and see the overlapping drawing that makes them.
The only eye symbol that have meaning at this moment is the diamond shape. Kaeya and Dainslieff have these. Quick minor character lore spoiler warning if you don’t know their lore, haven’t met Dain yet, or haven’t read the manga prequel! The diamond shape in the eyes mean that they are from Khannriah, the nation that was destroyed by the gods.
Pierro has it too. You can just barely see it when he steps into the light in this teaser. Plus, the crown piece of the Pale Flame artifact set has lore about Pierro written from the perspective of Pierro himself, and he describes how he tried to warn Khaenri'ah's ruler and sages to stop what they were doing. They ignored him because they considered him to be less knowledgeable than the sages, basically treating him like a fool. Because of this, Khaenri'ah was destroyed. Pierro later joined the Tsaritsa and founded the Fatui. He named it Fatui because that word means Fools. He proclaimed that if he is treated as a fool, then he shall be a fool.
The other shape that was explained (kind of?) was the vertical ones. In that Enkanomiya event the NPC that had these eyes said people with these lizard pupils have some relation to the old dragons (the ones that ruled pefore celestia). But since there's so many apparently unrelated characters with it and it's never bought up or hinted at again, It's hard to say if that's relevant at all. Or the chance they scraped it since that whole plot was a joke on reptilians theories out of nowhere
The first time i watched genshin teasers i was FLABBERGASTED when i saw how they tweened these Tweening for those who don’t know is an animation that moves around individual images for different parts of a subject. Great example of these are Vtuber models, gacha animation memes, and literally every genshin teasers and 2D cutscenes. It’s honestly way easier to animate frame by frame than tweening if you wanna make your animations more 3D imo. Every animation takes patience to make, props to hyv animators for not going mad.
I guess you never reach the end of Inazuma quest, that's why you got no idea what they are doing. This Teaser will make more sense and much more interesting if you know more about the story.
14:34 The pupil-shape thing hasn't been explained, but some have been revealed by association. Like the few character that have 4 pointed star pupils are all from the same old civilization, and apparently some that have this lizard-like vertical pupils are related to old dragons. Not sure if this will affect much of the main story someday, but the devs could definitively be building up to it
"Checkmate is not where the game ends" Hits heavy, didnt know how to dig deep on it. "Its time to end tonights foolish theatrics" On the surface this may describe their banter. Seem to me that Sumeru arc is where theyll start to move more actively. Since losing signora and scaramouche going rouge slows their plans. Using slime theory.. It seems to me that. Dottore burned that tree so that the Dendro Archon Exuvia or Gnosis will come out from underground. Similar to how dendro slimes work. Then similarly lesser Lord Kusanali is just a summon of the Dendro archon resting underground.. remember how Childe sought Gnosis from Geo archons Exuvia.. Edit 1: "Checkmate is not where the game ends"| Maybe that chessboard game only pertains to them moving as pieces(pawns) to get the other piece (Gnosis) but the real goal of the game is to level Teyvat then take the fight to the Celestia..I like Piero's voice tbh. I use to lean on this argument since 1.0. Anemo slimes generate upward wind current. Geo slime make shields and throws rocks. Electro slimes has 2 colors and links to each other.. There is SO MUCH going on in this trailer. If you are up to date on inazuma, you'd understand the massive bombshell of a confirmation they dropped. Also, first look at EVERY Fatui Harbinger! And they mentioned about the Tsaritza, who seems to be the final final boss potentially. And a burning tree just as we were going to Sumeru! The nation of dendro that has a lot of forests. It was chilling and scary. This was huge and got the entire community discussing about the lore.. it is so amazingly done.
the thing is, this entire interlude video was dropped out of nowhere !!! for a game that has leakers spoiling story or characters nonstop, having this be a surprise to literally EVERYONE was a breath of fresh air. it had people hyped, it had people excited because we've been looking forward to the harbinger reveals for ages to the point where them standing in a room, discussing the death of a character we once knew, had people leaping out of their seats screaming.
I think the art style actually works as an asset here, given the intended audience for this trailer is people who are at a point in the story where they're feeling pressure to finally know who these people are and how they operate before the next time they suddenly show up and, basically, do what they came to all over you. The limited motion has the effect of focusing attention on the minute details of their design, and given that they're all based off stock characters those designs are filled with hints about their likely approaches and vulnerabilities. Since the stage is already set for a somber reflection on mortality while performing a lazzo (unusual as that combination is), it's far more meaningful than high action could have been. It probably was chosen because of the extra stages required to produce optimized 3D models suitable for the in-game rendering engine, but the choice was for the better.

I like how Hoyoverse introduce the Fatui Harbingers, I personally love some of the harbingers to be playable but I hope some of them can keep their personality when they become playable.
They already been using this L2D animated art style for their teaser *5 characters video for long time but it definitely keep improved. (Not demo video). Maybe you should check that out too , personally I recommend Ayaka - Thawing in the Snow short story teaser.
the different eye pupils are usually for several reasons, like for hu tao i believe its something cultural, for the lady you talk about in here we dont know it could be genetic or something fancy, and kheanri'ahns usually have primogem shaped eyes
If you're interested in this art style for Genshin I'd highly recommend watching "Tsubaki in Thawing Snow" which is one of Ayaka's stories. It's done in this style and is honestly one of the most beautiful in my opinion, the art, music, and story blend so well together in such a short time.
If you’ve watched the vision trailer for ayaka they actually animate a full fight in this style and it looks sickk, they are a billion dollar company after all lmaoo
But Shenhe and Chongyun have different eyes, both are seemingly human, Liyuen and part of the same clan. Though Kokomi has strange eyes and is theorized to be nonhuman. HuTao might honestly be wearing contacts (which we know exists in Teyvat due to Fischl's new outfit). But could also be related to the ancient magic she uses to get to the spirit realm (I don't think we actually ever saw her grampa).

Comparing to 2D and 3D animation, Live2D is still pretty new so there aren't much people proficient with it in the industry. And with high demand especially from Vtubing, Live2D works can be pretty expensive.
That said Live2D is still way cheaper than traditional/digital 2D animation. In traditional/digital 2D animation you would draw image in every single frame of the animation, and normally 1 second would have 12 frames, you can see how much 2D animators would have to draw. Whereas for Live2D you would draw an illustration(with tons of layers) and rig it with Live2D, after that you would literally move the illustration itself. This save a lot of times but the downside is that right now Live2D is very limited as what you can animate with it. But every now and then I see people make new stuff with Live2D that was thought impossible to make with it, so the future of Live2D looks pretty bright.

The first time i watched genshin teasers i was FLABBERGASTED when i saw how they tweened these
Tweening for those who don’t know is an animation that moves around individual images for different parts of a subject. Great example of these are Vtuber models, gacha animation memes, and literally every genshin teasers and 2D cutscenes. It’s honestly way easier to animate frame by frame than tweening if you wanna make your animations more 3D imo. Every animation takes patience to make, props to hyv animators for not going mad.
I guess you never reach the end of Inazuma quest, that's why you got no idea what they are doing.
This Teaser will make more sense and much more interesting if you know more about the story.
14:34 The pupil-shape thing hasn't been explained, but some have been revealed by association. Like the few character that have 4 pointed star pupils are all from the same old civilization, and apparently some that have this lizard-like vertical pupils are related to old dragons.
Not sure if this will affect much of the main story someday, but the devs could definitively be building up to it

Dottore burned that tree so that the Dendro Archon Exuvia or Gnosis will come out from underground. Similar to how dendro slimes work. Then similarly lesser Lord Kusanali is just a summon of the Dendro archon resting underground..

There is SO MUCH going on in this trailer. If you are up to date on inazuma, you'd understand the massive bombshell of a confirmation they dropped. Also, first look at EVERY Fatui Harbinger! And they mentioned about the Tsaritza, who seems to be the final final boss potentially.
And a burning tree just as we were going to Sumeru! The nation of dendro that has a lot of forests. It was chilling and scary.
This was huge and got the entire community discussing about the lore.. it is so amazingly done.
the thing is, this entire interlude video was dropped out of nowhere !!! for a game that has leakers spoiling story or characters nonstop, having this be a surprise to literally EVERYONE was a breath of fresh air. it had people hyped, it had people excited because we've been looking forward to the harbinger reveals for ages to the point where them standing in a room, discussing the death of a character we once knew, had people leaping out of their seats screaming.
i am REALLLY hoping Columbina (the one with her head on the coffin singing) becomes playable!!!!

I think the art style actually works as an asset here, given the intended audience for this trailer is people who are at a point in the story where they're feeling pressure to finally know who these people are and how they operate before the next time they suddenly show up and, basically, do what they came to all over you. The limited motion has the effect of focusing attention on the minute details of their design, and given that they're all based off stock characters those designs are filled with hints about their likely approaches and vulnerabilities. Since the stage is already set for a somber reflection on mortality while performing a lazzo (unusual as that combination is), it's far more meaningful than high action could have been. It probably was chosen because of the extra stages required to produce optimized 3D models suitable for the in-game rendering engine, but the choice was for the better.

@@timjack4650 ummm they have released splash art of three characters that more or less look pale and dori's design is pretty much stereotypical with that aladdin vibe so most brown people are pretty offended...but some of us dont really mind tho it is sad...lets see these are just the first three characters tho so i do expect atleast some representation

I like how Hoyoverse introduce the Fatui Harbingers, I personally love some of the harbingers to be playable but I hope some of them can keep their personality when they become playable.

the different eye pupils are usually for several reasons, like for hu tao i believe its something cultural, for the lady you talk about in here we dont know it could be genetic or something fancy, and kheanri'ahns usually have primogem shaped eyes

If you're interested in this art style for Genshin I'd highly recommend watching "Tsubaki in Thawing Snow" which is one of Ayaka's stories. It's done in this style and is honestly one of the most beautiful in my opinion, the art, music, and story blend so well together in such a short time.

Idk of this is a fact but, I think the eyes correlate to the character's race, since everyone that has primogem eyes is khaenrian
But Shenhe and Chongyun have different eyes, both are seemingly human, Liyuen and part of the same clan.
Though Kokomi has strange eyes and is theorized to be nonhuman.
HuTao might honestly be wearing contacts (which we know exists in Teyvat due to Fischl's new outfit). But could also be related to the ancient magic she uses to get to the spirit realm (I don't think we actually ever saw her grampa).

Comparing to 2D and 3D animation, Live2D is still pretty new so there aren't much people proficient with it in the industry. And with high demand especially from Vtubing, Live2D works can be pretty expensive.
That said Live2D is still way cheaper than traditional/digital 2D animation. In traditional/digital 2D animation you would draw image in every single frame of the animation, and normally 1 second would have 12 frames, you can see how much 2D animators would have to draw. Whereas for Live2D you would draw an illustration(with tons of layers) and rig it with Live2D, after that you would literally move the illustration itself. This save a lot of times but the downside is that right now Live2D is very limited as what you can animate with it. But every now and then I see people make new stuff with Live2D that was thought impossible to make with it, so the future of Live2D looks pretty bright.
