I think I have posted elsewhere on this hymn, but I was part of a church choir in northern New South Wales, we would sing this at the conclusion of our Easter Saturday night Mass. a hymn that often needs a choir to bring out its best.
Beautiful song! It has so much more meaning after climbing that mountain road in our bus..going through the tunnel with this song playing, then exiting the tunnel and the beauty of Jerusalem was EVERYWHERE! We sang. We cried. We clapped upon our first vision of the beautiful Holy City of Jerusalem!

I sang this as a boy of 10yrs old at a very big concert and at 85 I still can sing the words without a script.Isaiah tells of his vision of the New Jerusalem which for us as Christians is not geographical but one that is spiritual right within ourselves
Even the temple was beautiful to see 15 story's tall of white marble, what made the temple, wonderful and beautiful was JESUS THE CHRIST AND THE SHEKINAH GLORY COVERINGS THE TEMPLE BLESSED BE THE LORD FOREVER AND FOREVER
I love this version of the Holy City...was my mother's favourite song!!! Though she passed many years ago, hearing it always melts my heart and brings me comfort....

My Mum used to sing this. I still have the music, with her name on it. We lost her Christmas 2013. l would love to hear her sing it again. I visited Frederic Weatherley's grave last year....

@@jeffreysmith7542 Well, I was just reiterating what the song says. In the NEW Jerusalem the gates will open, and no one will be excluded/denied. Did you know that at the inception of Christianity, one had to be Jewish to be considered a Christian. You can research that. I feel that any kind of exclusion is a a sad human need to feel somehow superior to others; more worthy of this or that, but feelings of inferiority are actually what is at play. The emphasis on children in the song sends a nice message as they are so often the innocent victims of adult hatred.

After all the bible does teach that only through the name of Jesus can one be saved but it does seem unfair for people to be denied into heaven when their are good people of other religions and some which have never even have the chance to except Jesus.
Many would be blessed and chosen for the everlasting life in the eternal Kingdom through the holy judgement of God the Lord. My dear faithful Land of Israel has been chosen by the same God the Lord as the holy land, saved forever and made free of sin and evil by almighty God the Lord Eternal Rruler and King and Master of all the things visible and invisible. It is written in the Word of God the Lord[Holy Bible] and if someone does not believe in it, he does not believe in the God, The Almighty Creator, truly and faithfully. You can't be saved unless you believe.
